Inside abandoned Toys R Us shop with eerie empty shelves and checkouts left to rot

YouTuber Ben Laurence has explored an abandoned Toys R Us store, revealing eerie empty shelves, discarded signs, and haunting relics of a once-iconic toy store chain
A haunting glimpse into one of the most iconic retail graveyards has been captured by YouTube creator Ben Laurence, who explored an abandoned Toys R Us store in the US - and what he found was a time capsule of childhood memories, now slowly rotting away.

In his video, Laurence films himself stepping inside the derelict store after being unexpectedly granted access by someone who appears to be working on demolishing the building.

'I'm shaking I'm so excited,' he says. 'I've got to be quick in here, but this is insane.' The footage shows eerie, empty shelves, long-abandoned checkouts, and remnants of the once-thriving toy empire. It comes after Brits are told to never put one banned item in garden bins as you could face punishment.

Dimmed lights flicker above half-filled coffee cups, left behind on counters where staff once scanned action figures and Barbie dolls.
Torn Lego advertisements hang limply, while in the shadows, the old video game area still glows faintly.

Toys R Us was once a giant of the high street, operating more than 100 stores across the UK at its peak.
But in 2018, the company fell into administration after struggling to keep up with online competitors and changing shopping habits.
All UK stores were closed that year, leaving behind vast, empty units across the country - many untouched since.

Outside this particular store, the giant Toys R Us signboard still looms, advertising a shop that no longer exists. While the branded signage on the building has been stripped away, letters from the original sign now sit discarded outside.
'It'll be a real shame to see these letters thrown out like trash,' Laurence says in the video. 'These are historical Toys R Us artefacts. All this stuff is going to end up in a landfill.'

Despite signs of a new development being built inside - with cars parked outside and work seemingly underway - the interior of the building remains frozen in time.
Among the finds are the instructions on how to use a shopping trolley, still posted inside the store, and a lone Christmas tree in the backroom, surrounded by crushed boxes and empty bicycle racks. 'You can still smell the rubber of the tyres,' Laurence says. 'Which is crazy.'
He also stumbles upon signs of recent human activity - not from workers, but likely trespassers. Empty alcohol bottles and cans are strewn around. 'Seems like someone's been boozing it up,' he says. Rat traps line the exterior, hinting at the vermin drawn to the decay.
'This is the remnants of the Toys R Us shelves,' he says, pointing to the torn-out fittings. 'This is probably the last time we're going to see the building looking like this. If they're ripping off the letters, they must be planning to do something with it.'

Posts have begun flooding social media sites advertising modified Fire Sticks for just a few pounds. Some posts advertised all Sky channels plus streaming sites such as Netflix and Disney Plus for as little as £2.50 a month. Kieron Sharp, chairman of the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) said dodgy Fire Stick users are breaking the law too, and could end up being prosecuted. According to FACT, watching an illegal stream is an offence under the Fraud Act 2006, and has a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Charity shop worker floored after receiving unusual donation 'worth thousands'

A charity shop worker was left stunned after a man donated hundreds of vintage Barbie dolls and accessories, but fans of the Mattel toys were saddened for one heart-breaking reason Charity shops are a great place to find bargains, and lots of thrifty shoppers love to share their hauls on social media. However, volunteers in the industry also like to show off some of the incredible donations they receive. ‌ One charity shop worker, Bella, was left gobsmacked by the size and value of a generous contribution from a member of the public. Unable to hide her shock, the volunteer admitted on TikTok: "This father and son just walked into my work and donated their grandma's whole Barbie collection since she passed away." Bella revealed that her video didn't show "even half" of the dolls the shop received. ‌ ‌ "She had her own collectors' encyclopaedia which was marked up with tabs of which ones she had," Bella added of the huge collection. Recording footage in the shop, Bella began by offering a glimpse of dozens of vintage boxed Barbie dolls, many of which appeared to be still sealed. From a Coca Cola edition of Soda Fountain Sweetheart Barbie from 1996 to the Sentimental Valentine Barbie from the same year, each item was in pristine condition, complete with accessories. A third 1996 edition followed in the form of Barbie at Bloomindales, as well as a Graduation Barbie from the year after. ‌ Next, Bella revealed an Avon exclusive collaboration with Mattel in the form of Winter Rhapsody Barbie (also 1996) as well as a number of other Special Occasion dolls from the same decade. Collaborations with American retailers Target and Chuck E. Cheese were documented next, along with earlier 1990s editions of Enchanted Evening Barbie and Got Milk Barbie. Bella was far from finished, however, providing her followers with a peek of countless more Barbie dolls - notably Holiday Memories Barbie, Barbie as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, Oreo Fun Barbie and Baywatch Barbie. ‌ The video viral, amassing more than 1.1million views at the time of writing and leaving some Barbie fans in awe - while others pointed out a rather tragic observation. "This collection was supposed to be handed down to a granddaughter or daughter, this is so wrong," expressed one TikTok user. A second concurred: "As time passes and their grief settles, I'm sure they'll regret doing that." A third person vented: "This makes me so sad. It feels like these were a reflection of all the women she could have been if she hadn't been stuck raising an ungrateful family." Meanwhile a fourth TikTok user aptly pointed out: "This is exactly the message the Barbie Movie was trying to get across. They're just Ken's, they don't understand!" Responding more positively, meanwhile, one individual remarked: "How nice that they donated these though, and didn't just throw them away. My guess is that they didn't have anyone in their family to appreciate them as much as your charity does." And another pondered: "Donated? Instead of selling them? They are good people." Whilst a third noted: "That collection looks priceless - I bet Mattel would be interested in it. That should be in a museum or a school where kids can play with them. That collection was meant for someone."

'Haunted' Annabelle doll gets new celebrity owner after handler dies

Comedian Matt Rife has revealed his 'super random' purchase of the museum that houses the 'haunted' Annabelle doll. The Raggedy Ann doll was obtained by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, in the 1970s after its original owner claimed it exhibited unsettling behaviour and was told by a psychic it had been possessed by a dead girl called Annabelle. Over the years was claimed to have caused a string of supernatural occurrences, featuring the 2013 film The Conjuring, going on to inspire the Annabelle horror film series – which includes the 2014 film Annabelle, followed by Annabelle: Creation (2017), and Annabelle Comes Home (2019). Over the past five decades, the original doll has been kept in the Warren's Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut. Last month the doll came to attention again following the sudden and mysterious death of its caretaker Dan Rivera. The well-known ghost hunter, 54, had been taking the doll around the US when he was found dead in his hotel. An autopsy is yet to confirm his cause of death, but police said 'nothing unusual or suspicious was observed at the scene.' A few weeks on Rife, 29, has now announced he's 'officially' purchased the Warren's house and museum alongside YouTube creator Elton Castee. 'INSANE ANNOUNCEMENT,' he began. 'I have officially purchased Ed and Lorraine Warren's home and Occult Museum, including being the legal guardian for at least the next 5 years, of the entire haunted collection including THE ANNABELLE DOLL, with my good friend @eltoncastee!! If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with the paranormal and all things haunted. You also may know The Conjuring films are my favourite scary movies of all time. So I'm incredibly honoured to have taken over one of the most prominent properties in paranormal history. Ed and Lorain Warren arguably put demonology and paranormal into the mainstream and are the very heart of some of the most famous haunted stories of all time, The Conjuring House, Amityville Horror, etc… 'We plan to open the house for overnight stays and museum tours so you yourself can experience and learn all the haunted history surrounding this amazing place.' In a TikTok Rife, best known for his self-produced comedy specials Only Fans, Matthew Steven Rife and Walking Red Flag, as well as Netflix specials Natural Selection and Lucid, added that: 'I know a lot of you guys don't know [what] any of this means whatsoever, but if you follow ghost stuff, this is about as big as it gets.' The New England Society for Psychic Research, which was founded by the Warrens, previously described it as 'demonically possessed'. Despite Rife's excitement, many people expressed concerns for him. 'It was nice knowing you!!!!!!' Jake commented on Instagram. 'DONT TOUCH ANYTHING!! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT TOUCH ANYTHING!!' Heather urged. The original Annabelle doll is a Raggedy Ann-style cloth doll that became the subject of widespread attention due to its alleged involvement in paranormal events investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren, prominent figures in American demonology and paranormal research. The events began in 1970, when a nursing student named Donna received the doll as a gift from her mother. Shortly after, Donna and her roommate Angie reported unusual activity involving the doll, including changes in its position and location within their apartment. They also discovered handwritten notes on parchment paper with disturbing messages such as 'Help me,' despite not having such paper in the apartment. Seeking an explanation, the women consulted a medium who claimed that the doll was inhabited by the spirit of a deceased girl named Annabelle Higgins. However, the Warrens, upon investigating, concluded that the presence associated with the doll was not that of a human spirit but a malevolent, demonic entity using the doll as a conduit to ultimately possess a human host. Following their investigation, the Warrens removed the doll and placed it in a secure glass case in their Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, with a warning label reading, 'Warning: Positively Do Not Open.' The doll is also associated with a supposed curse. The Warrens recounted an incident in which a museum visitor mocked the doll and challenged its power. According to their account, the visitor died in a motorcycle accident shortly after being asked to leave the museum. This story has contributed to the belief that Annabelle carries a dangerous curse, although no verifiable evidence supports these claims. 'No way. We are not ready to lose you,' Mel added. Rife went on to explain that he and Castee are now the 'legal guardians and caretakers' of the Warrens' home, as well as the museum and its collection of 750 artifacts, but don't have permanent ownership. 'I must go on record and say we do not legally own the items, but we are the legal guardians and caretakers of the items for at least the next five years,' he clarified. He also shared his plans to re-open the museum, which was forced to shut in 2019 due to a zoning violation. Rife said that 'soon' the museum will be opened for tours, while the house would be open for guests, with options to visit for a day, night or entire weekend. More Trending 'This is the most random hobby ever, but it's so f***ing ool, man. I should probably collect stamps or something — might be a little safer,' he joked. Ed Warren died aged 79 in 2006, while Lorraine died aged 92 in 2019. They were played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring franchise. Got a story?
