Infosys unit in US to pay $125,000 penalty in cybersecurity probe
BENGALURU: Infosys McCamish Systems (IMS), a subsidiary of Infosys BPM, entered a stipulation and consent order with the State of Vermont's Department of Financial Regulation (DFR) for failing to provide timely and accurate information during an investigation into a 2023 cybersecurity incident and delayed notifying affected data owners.
Infosys McCamish Systems entered the stipulation and consent order to resolve the matter without a hearing. The order records that Infosys McCamish Systems does not admit the existence of the alleged violations.
"Within 30 calendar days of the entry of this stipulation and consent order by the Commissioner, Infosys McCamish Systems is required to pay an administrative penalty of $125,000," a recent stock exchange filing showed.
In March, IMS agreed to contribute $17.5 million to a settlement fund to resolve class-action lawsuits related to the same cybersecurity breach. The settlement covers claims against IMS and several of its customers.
McCamish Systems was impacted by a cybersecurity incident in 2023 that resulted in the non-availability of certain applications and systems in McCamish. Infosys McCamish is a platform-based BPO firm that provides services to the financial services sector, supporting life insurance and annuity products and retirement plans.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has claimed that while artificial intelligence (AI) can currently replace humans in simpler tasks, but it is not capable enough to handle the most complex coding tasks yet. The tech billionaire shared his insights on the rapid progression of AI in an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria. Gates noted that experts in the field disagree on whether AI will achieve this capability within the next one to two years or if it is still a decade away. However, he highlighted that AI is "improving at a rate that surprises" him. Gates said this while differentiating between basic AI and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which has now become a common topic of discussion. The most complex coding tasks, it's not able to do it yet. And people in the field disagree if that is (happening) in the next year or two, or is it more like ten years away? You can say when is AI is so good that something like a telesales job or a telesupport job, just having the AI do that work, that it's way cheaper and more accurate than humans are. So that's really looking at the labour substitution piece. Or you can look at the most creative things that humans do, like come up with a new drug that helps with tuberculosis. So, is AI just helping humans get this done, or is it eventually replacing humans?' The interviewer also asked Gates about how AI can impact roles involving pattern recognition, like paralegals or entry-level accountants, and how it may make it harder for college-educated graduates to find jobs in such fields. Replying to this, Gates said: 'When you improve productivity, you can make more. If you get less productive, that's bad, and if you get more productive, that's good. It means you can free up these people to have smaller class sizes, have longer vacations, or to help do more. So it's not a bad thing. The question is, does it come so fast that you don't have time to adjust to it? In parallel, the blue-collar work, when the robotic arms start to be decent, which they're not today. India's US crude oil imports surge over 50% in first half of 2025; LNG, LPG trade also expands: Report
AI-image India has significantly ramped up its crude oil imports from the United States during President Donald Trump's second term, marking a major shift in its energy sourcing strategy, according to official trade data, reported ANI- quoting sources. Imports of US crude rose over 50 per cent in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year. From January to June 25, India imported an average of 0.271 million barrels per day (mb/d), up from 0.18 mb/d during the same timeframe in 2024. The uptick has been especially sharp in recent months. Imports during the April-June 2025 quarter soared 114 per cent year-on-year, with the value rising from $1.73 billion in Q1 of FY24-25 to $3.7 billion in Q1 of FY25-26. 'So, in July 2025, India imported 23 per cent more crude oil from the US compared to June 2025. In India's overall crude imports, while the US share was only 3 per cent, it increased to 8 per cent in July. Furthermore, in the financial year (2025-2026), Indian companies would increase their crude oil import by 150 per cent,' the ANI sources said. The energy trade expansion is not limited to crude. Negotiations are reportedly underway for a multi-billion dollar long-term LNG supply agreement. The growth in bilateral energy trade comes amid continued affirmations of strong diplomatic ties between the two nations. Ministry of External Affairs on Friday, reiterated its confidence in the strength of the Indo-US partnership. 'India and the United States share a comprehensive global strategic partnership anchored in shared interests, democratic values, and robust people-to-people ties. In another remark posted on Truth Social, Trump said, "I don't care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care. We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World. Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together. Let's keep it that way..."
