Ellen DeGeneres moved to UK because of Trump, plans to remarry there
Ellen DeGeneres says she decided not to return to the U.S. from the U.K. because of Donald Trump and plans to remarry there if the Supreme Court rolls back same-sex marriage rights. The comedian and former talk show host — among several celebrity donors who supported Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign — confirmed that she and her wife Portia de Rossi left their home country for the U.K. during the 2024 presidential election and decided to stay when the MAGA leader won re-election for a second term. 'Yes. We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in.' And we're like, 'We're staying here,'' she told British broadcaster Richard Bacon during a conversation on Sunday. Earlier this month, DeGeneres took to Instagram to support Rosie O'Donnell after Trump threatened to revoke her citizenship. O'Donnell, who has a near-20-year-feud with the ex 'Apprentice' star, revealed in March that she had packed up and headed to Ireland just days before the Republican president began his second term on Jan. 20. DeGeneres has been keeping a relatively low profile after ending her talk show in 2022 amid allegations of a toxic workplace environment. She later headlined a final comedy tour across the U.S. Last year, the couple purchased a 'part-time house' in the Cotswolds area of south central England where they planned to spend four months out of the year. But after Trump became president again, the couple made the permanent decision. Calling her house 'absolutely beautiful,' DeGeneres, who came out as gay in 1997, said it was the first time the pair saw snow there this past winter. 'We love it here,' she added. 'Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.' The 'Ellen' star continued: 'We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture, everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life. It's clean. Everything here is just better, the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.' There may be more wedding plans underway, too, for the couple who first wed in 2008. 'The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage,' DeGeneres said in reference to a June call by southern Baptist delegates for a gay marriage ban. 'They're trying to literally stop it from happening in the future and possibly reverse it. Portia and I are already looking into it, and if they do that, we're going to get married here.' ----------------

Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and more are all smiles in 'Ted Lasso' season 4 first look
Believe! Biscuits with the boss look a tad different in the first look at season 4 of Ted Lasso. Apple TV+ released the first look at Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Swift, Hannah Waddingham, and Juno Temple in the upcoming fourth season of the Emmy-winning series as production officially begins Monday in Kansas City, with additional filming set to take place in London. Swift (as Leslie Higgins), Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Temple (Keeley Jones), and Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) are gathered around a booth in a sun-drenched diner in the photo. Brett Goldstein, also a writer and executive producer on the dramedy, and Brendan Hunt, series co-creator, are also set to reprise their roles as Roy Kent and Coach Beard, respectively. The new season will follow Ted as he returns to Richmond to tackle his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women's football team. "Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would," per the the crew are series newcomers Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely, the latter of whom will be stepping in as Ted's son, Henry. Though initially conceived as a three-season series by Sudeikis and his co-creators, the show received a surprise season 4 renewal back in March. The Apple TV+ juggernaut debuted 2020 and introduced Sudeikis' fish-out-of-water American football coach who is hired to manage a British soccer team. Goldstein memorably compared the return to the resurrection of a dead cat while speaking to NPR in April. "I have a friend that I went to university with, and I think about this a lot," Goldstein recalled. "He had a cat that died. He loved his cat. And the cat was run over, and they buried the cat. He was a child. They buried the cat in the garden, and he lay in bed so sad, so upset and crying, and he prayed and he wished, 'I wish the cat would come back.'" "And then the cat did come back, and it turned out the cat they buried wasn't their cat," he continued. "I think about that all the time. I'm like, no wonder this guy is f---ed in the head, because he thinks death isn't real, so of course he's insane. He's such a weird guy 'cause he thinks he can bring things back from the dead." Resurrecting the show felt like that cat's resurrection, he said. "I guess I'm saying I feel like that kid. Like, we buried it. We all cried, we had a funeral. Are you saying we can bring anything back?' It's too much power.' Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly Solve the daily Crossword

Charli XCX's leftover wedding cake boxed up for fan
Charli XCX's leftover wedding cake was boxed up for a fan. The 32-year-old musician, born Charlotte Aitchison, married her long-term partner George Daniel, 34, over the weekend in an intimate ceremony held at Hackney Town Hall in east London, with the couple tying the knot in front of their parents and a small circle of close friends. Following the ceremony, Charli and George held a wedding dinner at the Italian restaurant Dalla, joined by around 20 guests, before continuing celebrations at a local bar. During the reception, a cake by Violet Cakes — the London bakery founded by Claire Ptak — was served, which featured white icing and was topped with a fig. A fan called Ruby said her friend, who worked as a waiter at Dalla on the night of the wedding, contacted her the following day to offer her a slice. She said in a video posted on her TikTok: 'He was like, 'Oh, do you want to swing by and get a slice?' He boxed up a slice for me. 'Then I think it was the owner of the restaurant that was like, 'Do you just want it? It's going to go in the bin.'' Ruby added: 'I swear I'm not a stalker,' while claiming she hadn't expected to receive more than a small portion, let alone the remaining wedding cake. After tasting it, she described the dessert as 'lovely'. Ruby also said she considered sharing the cake with other fans rather than selling it. 'My friends told me I could make some money and sell the cake to fans,' she said – adding: 'But that felt wrong.' She instead saved some extra slices for her friends, all of whom are fans of Charli. Online commenters expressed a mix of awe and confusion over her clip. One wrote: 'Imagine just sitting in your house eating Mr and Mrs XCX's wedding cake on a random day.' Another said: 'This is so weird but so iconic at the same time.' Some questioned whether Ruby should have accepted the cake at all. 'What if she wants it back?' asked one user. 'Is this considered theft?' wrote another, with a third commenting: 'This doesn't sit right with me.' Others defended Ruby and the restaurant's actions. One person said: 'Guys, as someone who also works at a restaurant, it is very common that people don't want to take the rest of their wedding cake home with them and then everyone in the kitchen gets to chow down on it. It's really not weird.' Another added: 'I used to spend my summers working as a cater waiter – have eaten many strangers' wedding cakes in my time.'
