Edinburgh Princes Street Gardens cafe targeted by 'youth gang' for third time in a week
An Edinburgh Princes Street cafe has been targeted by a gang of youths for the third time in a week after nearby business owners warned they are 'under siege' from feral groups.
Last weekend a firework was let off near customers at Sir Walter's Cafe in the Gardens, exploding near women and young children. Just days later, two female youths were captured breaking open a shutter and raiding the cafe.
Paulius Bernotas, who owns the business in Princes Street Gardens, raised concerns over an increase in antisocial behaviour from large groups of youths in the area and called on police to carry out regular patrols to deter further offending.
On Thursday, July 3, several male youths appeared to approach the cafe shortly before midnight and attempted to prize open the same shutter before turning the camera away from them.
According to Paulius, more damage was dealt to the unit, but nothing appears to have been taken.
Two hooded male youths can be seen approaching the cafe and attempting to pull open the wooden shutter before two females join them. In the background, people can be seen walking along Princes Street, looking towards the group.

A hand is then visible as the camera is moved away from them while they allegedly broke the doors open.
After being approached about a rise in youth-related incidents within Princes Street Gardens, Sergeant Robert Richardson said officers are currently running a dedicated initiative which involves high-visibility patrols specifically targeting antisocial behaviour on Princes Street and the surrounding area.
Paulius previously told how groups regularly make their way around Princes Street Gardens with speakers during the day and approach his cafe and seating area in the afternoon.
Despite being asked to leave by staff, groups continue to 'look for a reaction' and vandalise his cafe. The raid on the unit earlier this week left Paulius with a bill of around £2,000 to repair damage caused to the shutter and a fridge.
Sergeant Robert Richardson said: "We understand the impact anti-social behaviour and disorder has on the local community, and I would like to thank locals who continue to bring these incidents to our attention. I would reassure them that everything possible is being done to reduce anti-social behaviour in our area.

'Officers are currently running a dedicated initiative named Operation Verbeia, which involves increased high-visibility patrols specifically targeting anti-social behaviour in the Princes Street area and its surroundings.
"We take reports of such instances very seriously and I would urge anyone who comes across disorder to contact police. Anti-social behaviour and criminal acts will not be tolerated and those found to be committing these offences will be dealt with appropriately.

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A man has appeared in court following the alleged 'attempted murder' of one of Edinburgh gangster Mark Richardson's top associates. Anthony Brown, 49, was arrested and charged after police executed a warrant in Blantyre at around 9.45am on July 4. This comes after David McMillian, 54, was allegedly attacked with machetes outside his Pitcairn Grove home in Edinburgh on May 22, reports the Daily Record. Brown appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday facing charges of assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, attempted murder and being in possession of a blade. He made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody to appear again at the court within eight days. Two men have already appeared in court over the incident. Arran Reid, 26, and Joshua Stewart, 20, made their first appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, June 17. Reid was charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, attempted murder, reset, possession of blade, attempt to defeat ends of justice, possession of firearm and ammunition. Stewart was charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, attempted murder, reset and attempt to defeat the ends of justice. Both made no plea and were remanded in custody. Police Scotland also confirmed on Friday that they had made a further arrest in connection with Operation Portaledge, the investigation into gang-related incidents in the East and West of the country, bringing the total number to 52. He was released pending further enquiries. Police launched a probe after a Transit van was targeted on Niddrie Marischal Crescent in the capital. Minutes prior, a Range Rover was torched outside another home on nearby Campion Road. This is the second arrest in connection with this incident. A 17-year-old was also arrested and charged in connection with the incidents last week. He was released on an undertaking and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date. Dubai-based gangster Ross McGill's faceless and frightening enforcers Tamo Junto (TMJ), claimed responsibility for the attacks in a video shared shortly after the attacks. The footage showed flames bursting out of the Range Rover and the Ford Transit van. In one clip a hooded figure can be seen standing with an accelerant canister before he backs away from the fireball. The video played the song Two Tribes by 80s pop group Frankie Goes to Hollywood and ended with emojis of a black pawn chess piece and a sand timer appearing side by side. The Transit van was blown up at a home linked to Richardson's pal Paddy Beatson, on Niddrie Marischal Crescent which had been attacked twice previously in recent months. The attacks are part of a series of violent incidents across Scotland after a major turf war kicked off in March. The ongoing feud was sparked after Richardson's men bought £500k of cocaine from McGill with fake cash.

Moment brazen Edinburgh man 'tries to swindle local' with 'envelope trick' but gets caught
The man met up with another man under the guise of paying £400 for a phone. A man "attempting to swindle" someone by failing to pay for a phone they were selling was captured on camera. He met up with another man on Edinburgh's busy High Stree t, where they discussed the price and an envelope was exchanged. After handing over what turned out to be an empty envelope, he took off running before leaving the phone on a wall, Edinburgh Live reports. The incident was shared online by Ko Simpson on TikTok, who captioned it: "Slowest guy as well." The pair met and shook hands outside the capital's Museum of Childhood, with the prospective customer asking the man filming if the phone has been wiped completely. He takes it out of the box and examines it, before confirming £400 as the agreed price. He hands over a white envelope and turns around before running away into the nearest close towards a residential area. Quickly realising the envelope contained nothing, the other man chases after him, and watches him dump the phone on a wall and carry on running. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
