REVEALED: Why Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin split up
The Fifty Shades of Grey star and Coldplay singer have been dating since 2017 and sparked engagement rumours during 2020, but last week reportedly called off their eight year on and off again relationship for the second time.
A source told Page Six that Johnson broke up with Martin because she 'was sick of him dragging his feet on setting a date for the wedding'.
Another insider added that 'They broke up over Chris Martin not wanting to have more kids,' which comes after a different source told The Sun their age gap posed a problem in raising children.
'They really tried to work through their issues, but the age gap was often a problem, and she'd expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life, but they discussed it,' they said.
'They made some beautiful memories as a family, and it'll be hard for both of them to move on after such a long relationship, but they will do it.'
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail spoke to someone who claimed their relationship has actually 'been over for a long time, they just haven't been able to figure out to make it official.' Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal star in Materialists. Credit: Supplied
Neither Johnson nor Martin has commented on their split, but they seemed to be friendly recently based on Martin plugging his ex's new movie, Materialists, in which she stars alongside Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal.
At the end of a concert on his band's Music of the Spheres World Tour in Las Vegas, he took a minute to give Johnson what sounded like a subtle shout-out.
'Thank you so much, everybody. Be kind to yourself. Be kind to each other. Don't forget to see Materialists. We love you,' he said in a video obtained by DeuxMoi.
While the person who filmed the video claimed the pair were still going strong, the nice message came amid reports they had split, with a source telling People that it 'felt final this time.'
The pair were last spotted in Malibu together on May 16.

Liam Gallagher 'is being a total professional' on Oasis tour
Liam Gallagher is "laser-focused" on the Oasis comeback concerts. The 52-year-old rock star has reunited with his brother Noel for the long-awaited Oasis reunion tour, and Liam has been a "total professional" in his approach to the shows. A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "Liam arrives 45 minutes before he goes on stage and leaves immediately afterwards. "At Cardiff he had a car driven into the stadium to take him back to his hotel immediately. Liam is being a total professional and is laser-focused on giving Oasis fans the best show he can." Liam is well-known for his outspoken personality, but the insider suggested he's matured since Oasis split back in 2009. The source said: "It's incredible to see how well behaved he is being. It's like he's properly grown up now." Noel and Liam's mother, Peggy, recently revealed that she was the "instigator" of their reconciliation. Peggy urged her sons to put their differences aside - but she couldn't have made them do anything they didn't want to do. Speaking to Ireland's Mail on Sunday newspaper, she explained: "I was the instigator, yes. But sure, wasn't it always going to happen at some time or other? "It was their choice, of course. "Look you can't force them to do things they don't want to do. "You just have to say, 'Get on with it' and I said that." Peggy is thrilled that her warring sons have finally made up. She said: "It's great, because nobody wants their kids falling out, do they?" Peggy also revealed that she was looking forward to watching her sons in action in Dublin. Peggy actually intends to reunite with some other members of her family, including her sister, at the Dublin show. She shared: "I'm hoping to get to the Oasis concert in Dublin in August if I can hobble around. That's my plan anyway ... it will be great. "I know the Irish fans are thrilled about it. There's great excitement in Ireland about the reunion tour and it will be lovely to see family there, also my sister Kathleen. I am really looking forward to the Dublin one."
