Aggie Football Alum Terrence Murphy hooks ownership role in SFC's Third Coast Renegades
That's why it's essential for athletes to seize opportunities to learn and build an identity beyond their sport. Terrence Murphy—former Texas A&M standout and Green Bay Packer—has done exactly that over the past two decades.
Murphy was selected in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft, but his promising career was cut short by a neck injury, forcing him to retire in 2007. Yet he was far from lost—he had already begun investing in real estate, laying a foundation for long-term success. Over the next 20 years, Murphy expanded his portfolio to include more than 100 companies across various sectors, including real estate, construction services, technology, venture capital, and sports.
Beyond his regular youth camp in Bryan–College Station, Murphy has embraced the growing sport of pickleball, contributing as both an owner and media creator. His most recent move? Joining the ownership group of the Third Coast Renegades Angling Club, part of the Sport Fishing Championship (SFC). Founded in 2021, the SFC is a competitive sport fishing league representing 16 regions across North America.
When asked what drew him to the Third Coast Renegades and the SFC, Murphy shared:
"Fishing is about precision, patience, and purpose: the same values that drive successful teams and businesses. Through Third Coast Renegades AC, we're building something bigger than sport; we're creating legacy, community, and opportunity.'
'SFC is pioneering something new, and I'm proud to be part of it. And what also attracted me to SFC was the innovative team structure—they've built something truly unique by creating the camaraderie with teams and fans."
Murphy's story serves as a powerful example for former athletes seeking purpose beyond the game. While not everyone will build an empire like his, they can discover something meaningful and fulfilling. Terrence Murphy has always been a go-getter, and it's exciting to imagine what he'll accomplish over the next 20 years.

ESPN's Brooke Pryor shares potential holdup in Steelers-T.J. Watt contract negotiations
With no end in sight, the Steelers-T.J. Watt contract negotiations have received a major development — as ESPN's Brooke Pryor shared where the financial disagreement lies. Appearing on 93.7 The Fan last week, Pryor admitted that while a deal likely gets done between Watt and the Steelers, she argued the guaranteed money is currently the holdup: "T.J. Watt wants more guaranteed money than the Steelers are currently trying to offer him," Pryor stated. "This is a negotiation that will get done when it gets done." Pryor then followed up with a timeline prediction, hinting at the negotiations carrying into training camp — just like Watt's contract situation in 2021. Insider Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette previously echoed Pryor's comments — arguing Pittsburgh would need to surpass Myles Garrett's $123 million in guaranteed money to get Watt to put pen to paper. Whether or not Watt holds out at training camp for his guaranteed money remains to be seen — while other reports have claimed he could become the highest-paid defender, or even highest-paid non-quarterback, when all is said and done. Texas A&M junior P selected 111th overall by the Kansas City Royals in the 2025 MLB Draft
Justin Lamkin, the second-round pick, saw his draft stock rise after a strong junior campaign in what was a roller coaster of a season. In his final appearance as an Aggie, he delivered one of the best performances of his career, giving Texas A&M a glimmer of hope as the season slipped away. He tossed a scoreless, 15-strikeout complete game to lead a 6–0 victory over top-ranked Georgia. Lamkin was one of three Aggies ranked in MLB Pipeline's Top 250 prospects. After his final-game showing, the writing was on the wall, he was the most consistent starting pitcher, and his 5–7 record didn't reflect his true impact. In his most productive year in Maroon & White, he finished with a 3.42 ERA, 98 strikeouts, one complete game, and one shutout across 84.1 innings of work. On Sunday night, Lamkin heard his name called with the 111th overall pick by the Kansas City Royals.
