Australian filmmaker James Wan has paid tribute to beloved Saw movie producer Jason Constantine who died aged 55 on Tuesday from brain cancer.
The horror director, 48, who worked on most of the Saw movies with Constantine, posted several photos of the pair together as he shared his heartbreak.
'We lost a truly great friend and human being in Jason. I've known Jason since we first came out here to make Saw. That movie is what it is today because of him,' he wrote.
'He believed in the project so much, they brought it to Lionsgate and championed it before the movie was even shot.'
Wan went on to thank his late friend for helping him transform what began as a student film into a billion dollar franchise.

'Jason was an unsung hero of the franchise, a constant avid supporter of the movies and the filmmakers involved,' he added.
'But more importantly, he was a genuinely kind, sweet, caring, loving man.
'A true anomaly in a town like Hollywood. And a great father and husband too.'
After Constantine helped him to break into the industry, Wan went on to direct many acclaimed Hollywood blockbusters, including Fast and Furious 7 and The Conjuring.
Constantine was co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group and executive producer of all ten Saw movies, created by Wan and his writing partner Leigh Whannell.
He also produced the Australian-filmed US movies See No Evil, starring Rachael Taylor, and The Condemned featuring Neighbours actress Madeleine West.
The producer died at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday after a long battle with brain cancer.
Across ten movies made from 2004 - 2023, the Saw franchise has made over AU$1bn at the box office.

In addition to a mostly American cast, the films featured Australian actor Costas Mandylor as a villainous detective.
The franchise kicked off with Saw, which hit theatres October 27, 2004, and helped put director Wan and writer Whannell on the map.
The first film was produced on a modest budget and made over $100m at the box office, sparking an iconic franchise.
Saw II followed just a year later, with Darren Lynn Bousman replacing Wan at the helm and co-writing the script with Whannell.
The most recent movie movie, Saw X, was released in 2023 and was produced by both Wan and Constantine.

EXCLUSIVE Tom Cruise co-star who also acted on Friends is unrecognizable at 75... can you guess who she is?

A veteran character actress with decades of experience in Hollywood was spotted out and about in Los Angeles this week. On the big screen, she has featured in movies with a dazzling array of top-flight stars including Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock, Steve Carell and Jake Gyllenhaal. Her television work has ranged from The Golden Girls and Friends to CSI and Six Feet Under, with more recent roles on The Mindy Project and How I Met Your Mother. She was the image of summery style when she surfaced recently in California, looking as spry as ever at the age of 75. Her snappy outfit included a nautical chic set of navy and white shorts, teamed with a long-sleeved polo shirt and an elegant wide-brimmed straw hat. Can you guess who she is? The actress in question is none other than Beth Grant, who featured in the 1988 film Rain Man starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. Her other famed movies include the 2001 sci-fi thriller Donnie Darko, with its formidable cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore and Patrick Swayze. I no longer get roles just because I am desirable, says Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson has revealed that she is no longer offered roles solely because she is considered 'desirable'. The Lost in Translation star revealed that she was offered a string of rom-coms, such as He's Just Not That into You (2009), where only sex appeal was required – something she described as 'deeply unfulfilling'. However, in an interview with the Sunday Times magazine reflecting on how her career has changed, the 39-year-old actress said: 'The messaging is different.' She explained: 'There are many more role models, women are visible in powerful positions, and the opportunities I have had to play women who don't have to just be one thing or another have increased. 'But when I was younger, a lot of the roles I was offered, or I went for, had their ambitions or character arcs revolving around their own desirability, or the male gaze, or a male-centred story. 'That is less frequent, though something has shifted.' Johansson, who starred as Black Widow in nine Marvel films, said that in the early stages of 'responsibility then was just to be productive' in the early stages of her career. The actress added: 'Trying to maintain the momentum of my career and wait for things that felt right. And that is hard because there is an existential angst that comes with waiting, but I had to allow space for the creative process to do its thing. 'It was nerve-racking. I'm in a business where you feel like, at any moment, you'll become irrelevant. But I think it pays of – I know it does.' When asked how she stays motivated during her career, she said: 'There are just so many things that I imagine doing. 'I'd love to do more theatre, a film with a musical element. A horror.' Johansson also said that she looked up to Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock and Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford when she was younger. She said of Ford: 'He seems so shy and reserved, a private person. But he is also so photogenic, his shyness is revealed through a little twinkle in his eye, his vulnerability shines through. 'Some people just have that star quality.' It comes as Jurassic World: Rebirth, which stars Johansson as Zora Bennett, who leads a team that wants to extract blood from dinosaur hearts in search of a cure for human heart disease, is set to be released this week. Johansson said she is an original Jurassic Park fan and recalled: 'I was blown away as a kid.'

Scarlett Johansson reveals how she fought her way out of the Hollywood 'sex symbol' box: 'I was cast for my desirability - that's shifted'

Scarlett Johansson has revealed how she fought her way out of the Hollywood 'sex symbol' box, saying she was once cast purely for her looks. The Black Widow star, now 40, says that after rising to fame in Lost in Translation, she was constantly offered roles that only valued her for her 'desirability', something she says has finally started to shift. She told The Sunday Times: 'When I was younger, a lot of the roles I was offered, or I went for, had their ambitions or character arcs revolving around their own desirability, or the male gaze, or a male-centred story. That is less frequent, though something has shifted.' Scarlett added that it is different for young women now as not only has the messaging changed, but there are more visible role models and women in powerful positions. The shift hasn't just been in her scripts, it's in Scarlett's whole career. The two-time Oscar nominee has gone from playing the sexy love interest in rom-coms like He's Just Not That Into You, to hard-hitting parts in Marriage Story, Under the Skin, and a Marvel franchise that helped her become the highest-grossing actress of all time, with over $14 billion at the box office. Despite once being typecast, Scarlett refused to play the game. She revealed that she turned down roles she found 'deeply unfulfilling' and waited for parts that let her prove herself as more than just eye candy, even though she felt like she could become 'irrelevant' at 'any moment'. Revealing she had to practice patience to find her big break, she said: 'I just waited. I had to become comfortable with the idea that it could take some time. Which is hard when you're a young actor, but at that time I didn't have any children.' But her tenacity paid off. Scarlett made her directing debut this year with Eleanor the Great, a drama inspired by her Jewish ancestors and their experience fleeing Poland and Russia. The film, which premiered at Cannes, earned a glowing four-star review from The Times. Off-screen, Scarlett is now a mum of two to Rose, 10, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac, and Cosmo, three, with Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost. Scarlett is now set to star in the upcoming summer blockbuster Jurassic World: Rebirth, which hits cinemas on July 2 and promises to be the blockbuster event of the summer. Starring alongside Scarlett is Wicked and Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey. The second trailer for the upcoming flick begins with Scarlett who stars as skilled covert operations expert, Zora Bennett. She can be heard warning the others as they head to the tropical island, the site of previous films. Despite once being typecast, Scarlett refused to play the game and revealed how she turned down roles she found 'deeply unfulfilling' (pictured in Marriage Story with Adam Driver as Charlie in 2019) 'The theme park owners did experimental work,' she says. 'Leaving only the worst ones here.' For the top-secret mission, they must safely obtain and bring back the genetic material of the most dangerous and largest dinosaurs the world has ever seen, made even more ferocious after the previous Jurassic Park scientists experimented on them. The group are seen traveling by boat and arriving at the island, only to be first greeted by a bone-chilling roar in the distance, as they prepared to face off 'the worst of the worst dinosaurs left here,' as seen in text that flashes quickly across the screen. 'We've put ourselves in a place where we don't belong,' Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis even says to her at one point. 'Survival is a long shot.' She replies: 'That's kind of our specialty.' The movie is set half a decade after the 2022 Jurassic World Dominion movie, which starred Bryce Dallas Howard alongside Chris Pratt, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill among many more in the all-star cast. The synopsis of the movie reads: 'Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. 'Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived,' the summary continues. 'The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.' The star-studded cast also includes Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, Ed Skrein and many more. The newest and latest franchise film was directed by Gareth Edwards.
