Promising economic opportunity in waste recycling, says minister

The fifth edition of the Recycling Towards Sustainability Conference and Exhibition 2025, organised by the Ministry of Municipality under the theme 'From Waste to Wealth,' kicked off on Wednesday.
The two-day event is being attended by a number of ministers, with broad participation from government and semi-government institutions, private sector companies, local factories, numerous international entities, and a host of experts.
Minister of Municipality HE Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah stated that the conference offers a leading national and international platform for exchanging experiences and expertise, adding that it embodies the ministry's commitment to translating Qatar National Vision 2030 into concrete projects that promote the circular economy and enhance the quality of life through an integrated waste management system.
In his opening remarks, the minister highlighted the ministry's key achievements in 2024, including the conversion of more than 835,000 tonnes of waste at transfer stations, generating more than 40,000 megawatt-hours of energy, 27,000 tonnes of organic fertiliser, and 277,000 tonnes of recyclable materials, in addition to the allocation of 51 specific plots of land in the Al Afjah area, the launch of 30 investment opportunities, and the provision of more than 28,000 tonnes of sorted materials to the private sector free of charge in support of the circular economy.
He also noted the launch of specific initiatives within the 'Zero Waste' programme, including the construction of a modern landfill, the rehabilitation of old landfills, and the operation of an advanced sorting station in Al Khor, in addition to digital transformation projects that developed a unified driving system, vehicle tracking, and the immediate issuance of waste disposal permits electronically.
He added that the conference's theme, 'From Waste to Wealth,' reflects a firm belief that waste represents a promising economic opportunity and an important source of sustainable development, stressing that the visions, experiences, and partnerships presented will contribute to promoting a culture of sustainability and providing practical, applicable solutions.
The current edition features 11 panel discussions and 35 international speakers, focusing on the latest innovative solutions in waste treatment, strengthening public-private partnerships, and examining the role of education and content creators in spreading a culture of sustainability.
The conference is accompanied by an exhibition in which more than 40 exhibitors are taking part, including the Ministry of Municipality and private sector companies, to showcase the latest technologies and initiatives in the field of recycling. This annual event is part of the Ministry of Municipality's efforts to realise Qatar National Vision 2030 by promoting sustainability practices and expanding the scope of circular economy, contributing to building a prosperous future for generations to come.

The second course discussed provisions on mortgaging movable assets in Qatari law, focusing on developing participants' legal knowledge regarding the provisions regulating mortgages and the resulting obligations and rights under national legislation. The third course examined provisions regulating the work of experts in Qatari law as part of the qualification programmes for accredited experts. The fourth course addressed trial procedures and appeals against criminal judgments, aiming to hone participants' legal skills in the field of pleading before courts and familiarise them with the legal mechanisms for appealing judgments. The fifth course covered provisions of the Qatari inheritance division procedures law, with the aim of enabling participants to gain familiarity with the legal and procedural aspects related to the implementation of inheritance division provisions. Director of the Centre for Legal and Judicial Studies at the Ministry of Justice Dr Abdullah Hamad Al Khalidi, emphasised the importance of organising such specialised courses, which keep pace with developments in the legal system and contribute to the advancement of legal cadres working in the government sector. He noted that the Centre, based on the Ministry of Justice's vision of development and modernization, is working to develop advanced training programmes that align with the digital and technological transformation the country is witnessing, thus contributing to supporting the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Real estate trading volume exceeds QR 483 in one week

QNA DOHA The volume of real estate trading in sales contracts registered with the Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Justice during the period from June 15 to 19 amounted to QAR 423,674,670, while the total sales contracts for the real estate bulletin for residential units during the same period reached amounted to QAR 59,529,651. The weekly bulletin issued by the Department shows that the list of properties traded for sale included vacant lands, residential homes, apartment buildings, commercial buildings, shops and residential units. The sales operations were concentrated in the municipalities of Al Rayyan, Doha, Al Wakrah, Umm Salal, Al Khor and Al Dhakira, Al Dhaayen, and Al Shamal in addition to the areas of the Pearl, Lusail 69, and Ghar Thuaileb.

Qatar Aeronautical Academy and Qatar Airways sign cooperation agreement

DOHA: Qatar Aeronautical Academy (QAA) and Qatar Airways have signed an agreement during the Paris International Air Show in France. On the sidelines of the exhibition, a pilot training agreement accredited by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) was signed between QAA, represented by Director-General of QAA HE Sheikh Jabor bin Hamad Al Thani, and Qatar Airways Group, represented by Group CEO Eng Badr Mohammed Al Meer. The academy is expected to train approximately 750 students over five years, opening promising horizons for joint cooperation, exchange of expertise, development of national competencies in the aviation sector, and creating outstanding opportunities for young people wishing to join this field.
