Centre for Legal & Judicial Studies hosts training courses
QNA Doha The Centre for Legal and Judicial Studies concluded four training courses targeted at several legal professionals from various government ministries and entities. This comes as part of its efforts to enhance legal skills and meet the training needs of national cadres. The first course addressed liability arising from the use of AI in the medical field. It aimed to introduce participants to the concept of artificial intelligence, its medical uses, and the legal liability resulting from such utilisation. It also reviewed modern legal trends regarding assigning liability to smart systems. The second course discussed provisions on mortgaging movable assets in Qatari law, focusing on developing participants' legal knowledge regarding the provisions regulating mortgages and the resulting obligations and rights under national legislation. The third course examined provisions regulating the work of experts in Qatari law as part of the qualification programmes for accredited experts. The fourth course addressed trial procedures and appeals against criminal judgments, aiming to hone participants' legal skills in the field of pleading before courts and familiarise them with the legal mechanisms for appealing judgments. The fifth course covered provisions of the Qatari inheritance division procedures law, with the aim of enabling participants to gain familiarity with the legal and procedural aspects related to the implementation of inheritance division provisions. Director of the Centre for Legal and Judicial Studies at the Ministry of Justice Dr Abdullah Hamad Al Khalidi, emphasised the importance of organising such specialised courses, which keep pace with developments in the legal system and contribute to the advancement of legal cadres working in the government sector. He noted that the Centre, based on the Ministry of Justice's vision of development and modernization, is working to develop advanced training programmes that align with the digital and technological transformation the country is witnessing, thus contributing to supporting the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

PM discusses regional issues with Sudanese counterpart, Cypriot FM
QNA Doha Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani received a phone call from Prime Minister of Sudan Dr Kamil Idris on Thursday. During the call, they discussed bilateral cooperation and the means to enhance them, in addition to the latest developments in the region. The call also dealt with issues of joint interest. The Sudanese prime minister expressed his country's condemnation of the Iranian missile attack on the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, considering it a flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law and the United Nations Charter. The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also received a phone call from Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos. The two sides discussed relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them, as well as the latest developments in the region, in addition to several issues of common interest. The Cypriot FM expressed his country's condemnation of the Iranian attack on Al-Udeid Air Base, describing it as a blatant violation of the State of Qatar's sovereignty and its airspace, as well as a breach of international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter. The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Qatar will continue to deal with all developments wisely, within the framework of its full commitment to the principle of good neighbourliness and enhancing security and stability in the region. He stressed the need for concerted regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions and resolve disputes through diplomatic means.

MoM completes first phaseof anti-desertification project
QNA Doha The Ministry of Municipality (MoM), represented by Doha Municipality, announced the successful completion of the first phase of its project to combat desertification and enhance the urban landscape, as part of the 'Let's Make it More Beautiful' campaign launched in early 2025. The campaign coincided with the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. The ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the campaign aims to reduce desert areas within Doha by planting vegetation in urban areas, in line with sustainable development goals, particularly those related to halting land degradation and combating desertification. The first phase saw the planting of more than 110,000 seedlings of wind and arid climate resistant plants across a 15,000-metre-long stretch in strategic locations including Airport Road, Al Jamiaa Street, and the Najma District, using sustainable technologies that are compatible with the local environment. The second phase includes planting a 10,000-metre-long windbreak hedge on several main streets, including Al Messila, the Arab League, Al Khafji, and the entrance to Beach 974. The project also includes preparing the relevant lands for the completion of the hedge planting. The ministry confirmed that the campaign extends over four gradual phases until 2030.

Promising economic opportunity in waste recycling, says minister
QNA Doha The fifth edition of the Recycling Towards Sustainability Conference and Exhibition 2025, organised by the Ministry of Municipality under the theme 'From Waste to Wealth,' kicked off on Wednesday. The two-day event is being attended by a number of ministers, with broad participation from government and semi-government institutions, private sector companies, local factories, numerous international entities, and a host of experts. Minister of Municipality HE Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah stated that the conference offers a leading national and international platform for exchanging experiences and expertise, adding that it embodies the ministry's commitment to translating Qatar National Vision 2030 into concrete projects that promote the circular economy and enhance the quality of life through an integrated waste management system. In his opening remarks, the minister highlighted the ministry's key achievements in 2024, including the conversion of more than 835,000 tonnes of waste at transfer stations, generating more than 40,000 megawatt-hours of energy, 27,000 tonnes of organic fertiliser, and 277,000 tonnes of recyclable materials, in addition to the allocation of 51 specific plots of land in the Al Afjah area, the launch of 30 investment opportunities, and the provision of more than 28,000 tonnes of sorted materials to the private sector free of charge in support of the circular economy. He also noted the launch of specific initiatives within the 'Zero Waste' programme, including the construction of a modern landfill, the rehabilitation of old landfills, and the operation of an advanced sorting station in Al Khor, in addition to digital transformation projects that developed a unified driving system, vehicle tracking, and the immediate issuance of waste disposal permits electronically. He added that the conference's theme, 'From Waste to Wealth,' reflects a firm belief that waste represents a promising economic opportunity and an important source of sustainable development, stressing that the visions, experiences, and partnerships presented will contribute to promoting a culture of sustainability and providing practical, applicable solutions. The current edition features 11 panel discussions and 35 international speakers, focusing on the latest innovative solutions in waste treatment, strengthening public-private partnerships, and examining the role of education and content creators in spreading a culture of sustainability. The conference is accompanied by an exhibition in which more than 40 exhibitors are taking part, including the Ministry of Municipality and private sector companies, to showcase the latest technologies and initiatives in the field of recycling. This annual event is part of the Ministry of Municipality's efforts to realise Qatar National Vision 2030 by promoting sustainability practices and expanding the scope of circular economy, contributing to building a prosperous future for generations to come.

MoL trains Qatari graduatesseeking job in private sector
QNA Doha The Ministry of Labour (MoL), represented by the Qualifying and Skills Development Department, in cooperation with the Qatar Association of Certified Public Accountants (QCPA), on Wednesday organised a specialised training programme for private sector job seekers, including Qataris and children of Qatari women, specialising in accounting. The programme aims to qualify and prepare them for employment in the labour market. The training programme comes within the framework of the Ministry of Labour's efforts and its commitment to qualifying and training the national workforce, supporting the labour market with qualified Qatari competencies with competitive capabilities, and increasing their percentage in the total workforce in the private sector, in order to achieve the goals of the nationalisation plan. The programme also comes in line with the National Strategy for a Highly Productive and Competent Workforce 2024-2030, as it provides an explanation on understanding the basic theories and concepts of risk management and the application of risk management tools and practices in joint-stock companies and banks. Through initiatives and training programmes organised continuously throughout the year in cooperation with partners, the Ministry of Labour seeks to build a base of competencies and skills within the national workforce capable of participating in the sustainable development process and enhancing Qatar's position as a global hub for innovation and knowledge, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
