So, I'm confident that during three years of collaboration, we'll be able to impress both our users and Dynamo fans".

Elks mull late-game stalls as they remain winless after 3 games of young CFL season

Edmonton Elks quarterback Tre Ford (2) looks for a receiver during first half CFL action against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Winnipeg Thursday, June 26, 2025. It was a mirror image of their previous game. But the result was the same: Thursday's early season Canadian Football League date in Winnipeg against the Blue Bombers was a loss for the winless Edmonton Elks. The week before at home to the Montreal Alouettes, the Elks came out flat in the first half before coming alive in the latter stages of the eventual 38-28 defeat. In Winnipeg, the Elks found traction over the first three quarters only to fire blanks in the fourth quarter of the 36-23 decision for the Bombers. The game was tied after 45 minutes and Winnipeg was holding onto a three-point lead until the final six minutes, when the hosts put up a touchdown and a field-goal. That's two games in a row when the Elks have stalled out completely in the dying stages, something head coach Mark Kilam says needs to change. (John Woods/THE CANADIAN PRESS) 'We've got to figure out how to win games in the final five minutes,' Kilam, Edmonton's rookie bench boss, told media after the game. 'That's the difference between our football team and theirs, their group that's been there before.' Understatements all around. The Elks are 0-3 on the 2025 CFL schedule. The now 3-0 Blue Bombers, however, are definitely more seasoned and proven than just what happened in the late stages. "We've got to figure out how to win games in the final five minutes." — Elks head coach Mark Kilam They've been the West Division's representative in the last five Grey Cups, winning two of them with several principal figures still in place and dominating not just a new-look, rebuilding Elks squad but a recent divisional rival in the B.C. Lions, who Winnipeg had soundly beat in back-to-back games before the Edmonton game. The same Lions who dealt the Elks a convincing loss in Week 1. So while it's well known the Blue Bombers have offensive weapons at their disposal, they sure know how to use them – 'They ran it down our throats when everybody knows that's what Winnipeg does at the end of the game, so that's where we've got to get over the hump,' Kilam admitted post-game – and it's a lesson moving forward for the Elks as they look ahead to next Sunday's game against the visiting Ottawa Redblacks. (John Woods/THE CANADIAN PRESS) 'We've gotten better three weeks in a row, but it's about winning and it's about doing the things that we need to get better to be on the other side of this result,' he said. Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros, in his second game of action this season after sitting out the opener while under suspension, threw three touchdown passes and finished the game 25 of 30 passing for 334 yards. Elks quarterback Tre Ford, who was 18 of 29 passing for 252 yards, said even though the team is winless, they're 'feeling pretty good in our locker room.' 'I think we know that we left some stuff out there, and it was still a close game.'

10 Thoughts: Roughriders show how important experienced depth can be

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have an undefeated record, but the CFL club is admittedly not perfect. Article content On Saturday, the Green and White improved to 4-0 to begin the 2025 CFL season with a 37-18 victory over the visiting B.C. Lions in a game that featured a pair of veteran backup quarterbacks going head-to-head for their respective teams. Article content Article content Here are the top takeaways from the contest as the Riders enter their first bye week of the season. Article content 10 Thoughts: Article content 1. Jake Maier made his first start at quarterback for the Green and White in place of the injured Trevor Harris and his teammates made it easy on him. While Maier was effective moving the ball at times through the air, a strong rushing attack and a defence that forced four turnovers helped take some pressure off him. In 45 career starts with Calgary prior to coming to Saskatchewan, Maier has thrown for 300 yards on 13 different occasions. He threw for 170 yards on Saturday night and that was more than enough to get the win. Article content 2. It's a luxury for the Roughriders to have an experienced backup. Sure Maier is no Harris but unlike what Saskatchewan went last through with the inexperience of Shea Patterson, who made his first career CFL start in 2024 when Harris was injured, Maier — a veteran of 45 career starts — looked comfortable in the pocket all night even if he didn't make every throw (13 of 23). Experienced depth can pay dividends. Article content 3. Leading the way in the running game was A.J. Ouellette, who had a career-high 139 yards on a career-high 23 carries in his sixth CFL season. The 2022 and 2023 East Division all-star has had a great last three games for the Riders and is poised for a big year if he keeps this up. I think this is what everyone expected in 2024. Article content 4. Everybody has a job to do on the team and Tommy Stevens might be the best at doing his. The short-yardage quarterback has been outstanding in his role this season and proved his worth again on Saturday night. While he took a loss of two in the first half, Stevens converted on a pair of QB sneaks in the second half before cementing the game on Saskatchewan's final drive with five carries for 29 yards. Article content Article content 5. On the other side, Jeremiah Masoli didn't look great for B.C. While the Lions had two effective touchdown drives, aided by the play of running back James Butler, Masoli threw three interceptions including a costly pick six that was the turning point in the game. If the Lions (1-3) want to contend for a playoff spot this year, they better hope Rourke can return soon. Article content 6. After notching his first interception in the CFL since 2018 last week against Toronto, Riders defensive back Tevaughn Campbell was the one scoring on that pick-six as he put exclamation on the first half with an interception returned for a touchdown to put the Riders up 16-7 at the break. Filling that cornerback spot was one of the biggest needs for the Roughriders this off-season and Campbell — who has adjusted back to the CFL game after six years in the NFL — has been a great addition.

FIFA's Wenger promises better pitch quality at 2026 World Cup

Los Angeles FC midfielder Igor Jesus walks by a FIFA sign as players from Chelsea and Los Angeles FC are introduced before a Club World Cup Group D soccer match in Atlanta, Monday, June 16, 2025. (Jason Getz/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP) FIFA's Global Football Development chief Arsene Wenger acknowledged that the quality of pitches hosting Club World Cup matches in the U.S. was not good enough, but insisted it would be better when the country co-hosts the 2026 World Cup. The pitches, often very dry and sprinkled with water during cooling breaks or at halftime, have been widely criticized, mainly by coaches and players of the European teams taking part. 'I've been personally on the pitch at Orlando,' former Arsenal manager Wenger said on Saturday. 'It's not at the level that the European clubs are used to because it's not perfect, but that will be rectified for the World Cup next year.' Paris St Germain coach Luis Enrique raised the issue early in the expanded Club World Cup tournament. 'The ball bounces like a rabbit,' Luis Enrique said after his team's opening 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid. 'Today, for example, the field used to be artificial turf, and now it's natural grass laid over it, which means it has to be watered manually. It's a big problem for the way we play.' 'FIFA really needs to take this seriously. Not just the stadium fields but also the training pitches. If we're calling this the best club tournament in the world, it should have world‑class facilities. I can't imagine an NBA game played on a court full of holes.'
