The joy of adopting a new pet often comes with surprises—but one couple got a larger surprise than they expected.
For TikTok user Joanna and her husband, their first feline addition shattered all their expectations. What they thought was a standard kitten grew into a strikingly large, majestic cat now known as their "house panther"—and captivated a wide audience from a TikTok video. Joanna, 27, spoke to Newsweek about how they've adjusted to their kitty's size, and how deep their bond has grown since adopting.
"When you think you adopted a kitten...and it turns out you adopted a panther," Joanna captioned the video. "Adopted our first cat, was not expecting him to be the biggest cat we've ever seen! We love our Witcher."

Joanna shared more about their journey with Witcher. Having always been drawn to the majestic appearance of black cats, her path to cat parenthood was somewhat unexpected.
Already having a goldendoodle named Teddy, they considered adopting a kitten after realizing Teddy was overwhelmed by other dogs. Seeing a photo of "kitten Witcher with his cute face and prominently big ears," Joanna's heart was set.
Witcher, originally named Toast by his foster parents, quickly lived up to his new namesake. Joanna and her husband named him Witcher, after Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher, recognizing his early traits of "stoicism, loyalty, independence, compassion and natural heroism," Joanna said.
From the moment he arrived, Witcher's bravery was evident. Despite being dwarfed by Teddy, Witcher immediately began "setting boundaries." And the kitten didn't just bring vibrant energy; he also helped Teddy come out of his shell. Their bond blossomed into a "true brotherly bond," filled with cuddles and playful bouts around the house.
The couple initially worried about the size difference during their play, constantly intervening. However, Witcher would hold his ground, and many times, even overtake Teddy. It wasn't long before they noticed the cat's remarkable growth.
"Soon, we noticed his tail begun to match the size of his big ears," Joanna said. "Then his body begun stretching longer and longer. Before we knew it, when our friends would come over, they begun commenting 'wow, he is a long boy' or, 'wow he's only a few months old?' Even when I would send update photos to his foster parents, they were blown away by his size too."
Joanna noted the significant change as their goldendoodle went from towering over Witcher, to Witcher becoming a "fair opponent" in their play.
'The Same Amount of Love'
Beyond his impressive size, Witcher's core personality traits have remained.
"My favorite trait...is his sense of bravery," Joanna shared, adding that he faces new people, pets, harness training and even long car drives with unwavering courage.
Joanna, who once wasn't sure how she'd feel as a cat parent, now emphasizes that "cats and dogs display the same amount of love towards their fur parents—just in different ways." She urges those with strong opinions against cats to consider that they are animals that simply appreciate consistency and trust. For her, Witcher's affectionate moments, like cuddling and endless purrs, are "a very active choice he is making."
She hopes that by showcasing Witcher's quirks, she can "bring a spotlight to black cats at large," advocating for their adoption given historical biases and misconceptions. She encourages anyone considering a loyal and loving companion to think about adopting a black cat, just like her magnificent "house panther."

Shopping centre issues statement after video of little girl on escalator goes viral on TikTok

A UK shopping centre has shared a statement after a viral video of a young girl has been widely shared on social media. The footage shows the girl causing 'chaos' at the Arndale shopping centre in Manchester. She is seen climbing on top of an escalator, being escorted by security guards, and allegedly pulling the hair of another shopper whilst inside the Manchester shopping centre. One video of the incident had been seen by more than 55 million people on TikTok within three days. READ MORE: Watch as 'reckless' biker films himself reaching 100mph while performing stunts in frightening footage Another clip on X, formerly Twitter, has received over 13 million views in a little over 12 hours. The clips begin with a young girl in a pink coat and her family arguing with a group of security staff outside a shop, alongside another group of shoppers. It is not clear what is being said but it has been alleged online that the girl and her family were being accused of shoplifting and security can be seen separating the two groups of shoppers away from each other, Manchester Evening News reports. The girl and her family walk away in the video before another young girl throws an unknown item in the direction towards where the security guards and the other group of shoppers are standing. The girl in the pink coat then travels on a downward escalator in front of two members of security. She climbs onto the gap between the two moving staircases and proceeds to climb onto the upwards escalator, which is not in use, and walks up the steps, seemingly to escape the security officers. At the top of the escalator, she is seen in the video approaching a group of shoppers who are watching the commotion unfold. She is then captured on video approaching a female shopper and then proceeding to pull them by the hair. She then heads back down the escalator with a smile on her face. One person commented on the video: 'The pink jacket girl CLIMBING OVER the escalator, going back down it, & then going back up just gag her is frying me like WHO IS THIS DIVA LMFAOOO.' They added: 'this entire situation is so chaotic i'm crying'. Another said: 'That escalator wasn't ready for a diva moment". Whilst some found the clips to be entertaining, others said they were not impressed by her actions. One person said: 'I don't find her behaviour that funny." Another person commented: 'Parents need to start parenting.' But not is all as it seems with the video as it was in fact first posted three years ago by @dreams_dreams24. The same user has recently reposted the videos, which has garnered more attention to the clips with 'pink coat girl' now becoming a viral topic on TikTok. A spokesperson for Manchester Arndale said: 'We're aware of a video that has been recently circulated on social media, which shows an altercation that took place in Manchester Arndale and was attended by members of our Security team. "Following a review of the footage, we can confirm that this is a historic incident that occurred several years ago.'

15 TikTok Videos About ‘Clankers', a New Slur for Robots

Terms like 'social media,' 'podcast,' and 'internet' emerged years ago as ways to talk about the latest advancements in the world of technology. And over the past month, we've seen some new terms popping up in the world of tech, from clanker to slopper, even if they seem to be mostly tongue-in-cheek at this point. What's a clanker? It's a derogatory word for a robot, a term coined in 1920 for a Czech play about dangerous mechanical men. And given the fact that humanoid robots are still pretty rare in everyday life, the term clanker has emerged as a way to joke about a future where robots face discrimination in jobs and relationships. That's what the folks of TikTok have been doing with some frequency since the word started to spread widely online in early July. As io9 reported Monday, clanker as a slur actually originates from the Star Wars universe, starting with the 2005 video game Republic Commando and becoming more popular with the Clone Wars animated series in 2008. But the term has taken off recently as a way to joke about our uneasiness with new technology in 2025. Some of the videos currently circulating on social media are just directed at robots that show up in daily life already, like the bots that are sometimes cleaning in supermarkets. But other videos imagine what the future will look like, placing the viewer in an era, maybe 20 or 50 years from now, when robots will presumably be much more common. The jokes often use stereotypes of the 20th century around racial integration, mimicking the bigoted responses white people had reacting to civil rights advancements in the U.S. and repurposing them for this version of a future where humans are uncomfortable with a robotic other. Obviously, we don't know how common humanoid robots will be in five, 10, or 20 years. Elon Musk has promised 'billions' of robots will be sold around the globe within your lifetime. And while Musk is often far too, let's say, optimistic about his tech timelines, it seems perfectly reasonable that we will have more humanoid robots walking around in the near future. For his part, Musk has only been showing off teleoperated robots that are closer to a magic trick than visions of the future. But technological change can be scary. And it's interesting to see how content creators channel those fears by imagining a new future where robots are oppressed—something that's incredibly common in science fiction, even before the word clanker was coined. Whatever you think of the term (and there are some people who are uncomfortable with it as coded racism rather than a comment on racism), it's everywhere on TikTok right now. good for nothing cl***ers #groopski #robophobic #futuretech #humanityfirst ♬ Bell Sound/Temple/Gone/About 10 minutes(846892) – yulu-ism project #fyp ♬ original sound – baggyclothesfromjapan Robophobia running rampant in clanker society #robot #fyp #fypage #robophobia #ai #police #cops #robo ♬ Beethoven's 'Moonlight'(871109) – 平松誠 #fyp #pov #robot #skit ♬ Bell Sound/Temple/Gone/About 10 minutes(846892) – yulu-ism project Sorry I just thought you were one of the good ones 🤖❌ #clanker #ai #fypシ #viral #fyp ♬ Bell Sound/Temple/Gone/About 10 minutes(846892) – yulu-ism project All these new gens bro💔🥀 #clanker#ai#robot#clonewars #starwars#clone#jangofett #starwarsfan #obiwan#anakin ♬ Classic classical gymnopedie solo piano(1034554) – Lyrebirds music How would pissed would you get at a robot ump? #baseball #comedy #clanker #pov ♬ original sound – LucasRoach15 Clanker #clanker #clankermeme #robophobic #robot #fyp ♬ original sound – TrendsOnline – TrendsOnline Asked ChatGPT if it liked this video it said yeah ♬ Rust – Black Label Society #clanker #fyp #fypシ #relatable #funny #trending #blowthisup ♬ original sound – 👩🏼‍🎤 Robophobia running rampant in clanker society #robot #robophobia #fyp #fypage #ai #clanker #robo ♬ Dust Collector – ybg lucas ♬ original sound – Conner Esche These clankers am I right #skit #meme #edit #clanker ♬ original sound – coopermitcchell #pov : You're coming out to your parents in 2050 #ai ♬ original sound – bjcalvillo Clanker #clanker #clankermeme #robophobic #robot #fyp #robots ♬ original sound – TrendsOnline – TrendsOnline Every new era sees an expansion of the tech lexicon. That's just how the march of time works. And it's unclear whether clankers will have any staying power beyond the summer of 2025. Another term, sloppers, has seen a similar rise, a term for people who use generative artificial intelligence for everything. There's just no predicting what new words are going to stick. After all, the internet was almost called the catenet. Language works in really funny ways.
