Setchu Spring 2026: Snaps and Crafts
After his first runway show at Pitti Uomo in January, Japanese designer Satoshi Kuwata was excited by the format and so he staged his Milan runway debut on Friday.
His transformative, functional fashions — largely relying on tailoring and utilitarian pieces morphing shape and fit via a profuse use of zippers, snap buttons and buttons — was refreshed with crafty flourishes for the occasion. Some charming, some too gimmicky, sculpted bodices and skirts, as well as wide-brimmed hats and baskets, accessorized Kuwata's looks.

The wavy, palm-weaving technique that informed these pieces was a central theme, as it both expressed Kuwata's penchant for building bridges between cultures and nodded to the starting point of his creative process — a recent trip to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
An avid fisherman, the 2023 LVMH Prize for Young Designers winner might originally have planned his journey to chase tiger fish, but he ended up catching much more. Kuwata had the opportunity to collaborate with local tribes, discovering their craft and creating the woven pieces, also thanks to a little help from LVMH Métiers d'Art, which supports local craftsmanship through initiatives such as the Jafuta Foudation and Batoka Creatives.
'[The technique] is based on how the weaver feels in that second, not an order you follow, so they make a unique organic shape,' said Kuwata, underscoring the affinity with a practice in his homeland, too. Overall, he said that observing Zimbabwe's natural landscape and local culture 'especially the way people instinctively mold and wrap clothing around the body, sparked new ideas about primal dressing. The pureness of intent and the timelessness of these gestures are what tie Africa and Japan together.'
He channeled that instinctive approach in the lineup via tops and shirts with sleeves wrapped around the neckline to create a draped effect or way-too-oversize denim and cargo pants held only by a thin strap in hanging low on the hips.
He addressed the colors and misty mood of the falls and nature with transparencies, lightweight dresses and flimsy little frocks, and these looks — mainly women's — were seen alongside his take on utility and sartorial constructions. A series of field jackets featuring handles in the collar and enabling wearers to carry them as totes was among the highlights of the collection.
'I like the idea of something timeless, yet you can enjoy every time you transform into something,' Kuwata said. 'I'm not famous, I think I can do whatever I want. Not many people know exactly what I am, so I'm just trying to be who I am.'

Undercover Resort 2026 Collection
Graphic jolt apart, this was a collection of gentle deconstruction and thoughtful renovation from Jun Takahashi's Undercover. It saw the designer make delicate experiments with classic clothing recipes in order to hint at subtly fresh wearable flavors: fashion fusion cuisine. The opening look mixed a workwear jacket and cuffed track pant in light white cotton, to which tweaks in placket, seaming, collar shape and fastening added a varietal uniqueness. A black dress pant came with a folded white T-shirt that hung from the waistline as a flounce. Suspender straps peeped from the waistline of a black skirt. Denim jackets and pants were constructed from an asymmetric patchwork collage of fabric whose attractively illogical fit made the outfit. Some fun piano key stripes played out across a slashed back T-shirt layered over a silky blouse or paneled into the shoulders of a jersey cardigan. Hoodies and pants cut from striped shirting fabric and featuring shirt construction details in the yolk and hem were pleasantly contemporary alternatives for those inclined to pajama dressing. Mixed material hemming created a trompe l'oeil impression of layering on a denim shirt, while roughly cut raised inserts tracing the arms and hood of a hoodie subtly changed the signature of its silhouette. A brocade insert created mild surprise in an MA1, while the outline of a corseted LBD impressed within the facade of a maroon shirt was more directly arresting. A horizontally conjoined T-shirt, faux fur fronted and jersey panel backed jacket, and viscose fronted pleat-inserted camp collar shirt eased into the final phase of the collection. This was defined by a mournful floral print spliced with some of the fragmented garment samples we had already seen Takahashi mix with. With a gently eroticized black suit, the season faded to black.

Lazoschmidl Spring 2026 Menswear Collection
'This is not a sexy collection!' offered Andreas Schmidl at his and Josef Lazo's spring presentation in Paris. 'Wait, should that be your opening line?' He was half-joking, but it's true that of all things sexy and erotic about yesterday's staging, Schmidl and Lazo's collection itself barely makes the top five. For starters, the idea here was to create a sort of voyeuristic experience in which models would change into different outfits from the collection in makeshift dressing rooms with only sheer curtains to shield them from onlookers. They changed from skimpy tank tops into button downs left open, wore speedos and tees and three-quarter-length trousers all with, you guessed it, thong sandals, as many collections this season have featured. The designers explained that the cast had been instructed to mix and match the collection as they pleased. They said they found the result liberating. Seeing models simply get dressed in the clothes following their own tastes and instincts, as opposed to wearing them in a prescribed way, was effective in how it made the Lazoschmidl look more expansive. The overarching concept was to over impose the private and the intimate while exposing the ways in which this distinction has both loosened and sharpened in the age of the internet. We're more accessible than ever before, and our personal moments can now be on display with social media. Yet exposure has become somewhat of a performance—one can see a lot of a person online and yet know nothing about them at all. Schmidl said that they considered this all in regards to the way young men exist online nowadays, including Get Ready with Me videos, 'thirst traps' and OnlyFans. 'We wanted to show the moment you dress up in a public space,' he said, referring to how the filming of a video could be private, but social media is not. 'There is this pressure that society puts on the male identity,' he added. Men are showing abs and pecs and even bulges online to display, and in most cases perform, their masculinity. 'You see it all, but a lot of men who are very outgoing on the internet tend to be very shy in real life,' he added. 'A study shows that young men don't have sex anymore because they show so much of themselves and see so much of others that then they don't want it anymore.' The connection between this overarching idea and the clothes themselves was less straightforward. Lazoschmidl is, actually, a sexy brand. Its habitual speedos and biker shorts and second skin tank tops recurred here—yet more interesting was where the designers inserted some nuance into their collection. Vertical striped cotton sets, slim '90s sweaters, and sheer sports sets better exemplified this liminal space between private and intimate, sexy and sweet.
