Drills in 4 border states tomorrow; Gujarat, J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan on alert

India Today28-05-2025
Amid ongoing tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad, a mock drill will be conducted on Thursday evening in the states bordering Pakistan -- Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir -- which came under heavy attack from across the border during the recently concluded four-day conflict. People will be instructed to stay alert during the drill, sources informed India Today TV.advertisementThe primary objectives of a mock drill include testing the operationality of control rooms and air raid warning systems. It also assesses the effectiveness of civil defence services, such as warden services, firefighting, rescue operations, depot management, and the preparation of evacuation plans. This development comes weeks after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) conducted Operation Abhyas -- a nationwide mock drill -- on May 7, hours before India launched Operation Sindoor.
In the last mock drill, air raid warning sirens were activated while civilians and students were briefed on civil defence protocols on how to protect themselves and others around them in case of an attack. These mock drills -- the first of their kind since the 1971 war with Pakistan-- were held in 250 locations across 33 states and union territories.advertisementDuring Operation Sindoor, Punjab -- which shares a 532-kilometre border with Pakistan -- put all its border districts on high alert, cancelling any public events while ordering the shutdown of schools in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts.Similarly, all government and private schools in the border areas of Rajasthan -- which shares 1,037 kilometres with Pakistan -- were shut down.Trending Reel

Army says no ceasefire violation along LoC

The Army on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) said there has been no ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. 'There have been some media and social media reports regarding ceasefire violation in Poonch region. It is clarified that there has been no ceasefire violation along the LoC. Please avoid spreading unverified information,' the Army said in a statement in New Delhi. Earlier, official sources in Jammu said the Pakistan Army had on Tuesday evening (August 5, 2025) indulged in 'unprovoked' firing on forward Indian posts along the LoC, prompting strong retaliation by the Indian Army. The exchange of small arms firing between the two sides continued for nearly 15 minutes in the Mankote sector but there was no immediate report of any casualties, the sources had said, adding it was the first instance of ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor. Indian and Pakistani militaries engaged in intense clashes between May 7 and 10 after India launched missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border under Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.

Post-Operation Sindoor Strike, India Doubles Down on BrahMos Missiles to Fortify Armed Forces

Following the spectacular success of Operation Sindoor, India is moving swiftly to bolster its military arsenal with a massive new procurement of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. Defence sources confirm that a high-level meeting is expected to approve large-scale purchases for the Indian Navy, IAF, and ground forces. The BrahMos played a pivotal role in striking key Pakistani military targets, including airbases and terror HQs, with pinpoint precision. Indian Su-30MKIs rained down BrahMos missiles on Pakistan's terror hubs, while Navy warships targeted coastal assets. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the indigenous firepower, saying, 'The world saw our strength.' The message is loud and clear: India's defence doctrine has changed. Precision, speed, and supremacy now define it. This is not just procurement, it's preparation for dominance in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
