SMTA, KFC sign MoU to provide scooter training to women
He emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) has always advocated for women's rights. He highlighted that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto took historic initiatives such as establishing the First Women's Bank, setting up Women's Police Stations, and distributing land to landless women farmers.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) and the renowned international food chain KFC at a local hotel in Karachi. The MoU was signed by SMTA Managing Director Kamal Hakim Dayo and KFC CEO Raza Pirbhai. Sindh Senior Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon, Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, and other senior officials were present at the ceremony.
Under the agreement, the Sindh government, in collaboration with KFC, will establish training centers in all divisional headquarters across Sindh to provide scooter driving training for women.
Addressing the ceremony, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that President Asif Ali Zardari launched the country's largest income support program, which provided financial assistance to millions of women. He added that during the PPP's tenure, women were issued national identity cards and granted the right to vote. He stated that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pledged to rebuild two million houses destroyed in the recent floods, with ownership rights being granted to women. He noted that this initiative represents the world's largest housing project.
Sharjeel Memon said that the Pink Bus was Pakistan's first women-only public transport project, which received praise from international media. He added that the government has now decided to provide free Pink EV Scooties to women to help them become more independent.
He stated that so far, 8,000 women have applied for free scooters, out of which 140 already hold driving licenses. KFC has offered to provide driving training for women and cover their license fees.
Raza Pirbhai added that the training will be conducted at divisional headquarters.
Sharjeel Memon stated that the bidding process for this project will be transparent, and scooters will be distributed purely on merit. He added that the Sindh government will soon launch a Pink Taxi Service, and more buses, including double-decker buses, are expected to arrive in Pakistan next month.
Sharjeel Memon said that the Sindh government has also introduced Pakistan's first electric buses. He added that the country has recently overcome a major challenge, and now it is time for all of us to work together to move the nation forward.
On the occasion, KFC CEO Raza Pirbhai hosted a reception in honour of the distinguished guests and expressed pride in being part of this important initiative to empower women in collaboration with the Sindh government. He stated that KFC is committed to not only creating employment opportunities for women but also ensuring they are given the full right to lead a dignified life.

‘Form-47 mandate' brings about no change: JI chief
LAHORE: Chief Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has urged state institutions to revisit their conduct of imposing corrupt elements on the people, stating that rulers brought through Form 47 cannot bring meaningful change. He also condemned the feudal system in Sindh, saying that criminal elements enjoyed protection from tribal chieftains. 'The Sardari system is a cruel relic. People must rise against it. Community committees should be formed to eradicate social evils and drug abuse,' he said, assuring that JI would support every individual who speaks the truth. Rehman emphasized that unlike family-run political dynasties or sect-based religious parties, JI is a movement free of ethnic, provincial, or sectarian prejudice and is devoted to the establishment of Islamic values. 'In our view, politics is a form of worship. We are uniting people for peace, development, prosperity, and the implementation of Islamic governance,' he said. Questioning the integrity of the current political elite, he asked, 'Should politicians involved in the buying and selling of MNAs and MPAs be considered great leaders?' He added the time has passed when dynastic political parties could fool the people, especially the youth. 'Youth support for JI is rising. We believe the solution to our problems lies not in changing faces but in changing the system.' Commenting on the situation in Gaza, the JI leaders said the United States is continuously arming Israel, which he called a 'rampaging elephant' now expanding its aggression to Syria as well. 'If the rulers of the Muslim world were true representatives of their people, Israel would never have dared to commit such atrocities against the people of Gaza,' he said, urging Muslim nations to bring true leadership to power in their respective countries. Independence Day celebrations: Sindh steps up preparations for organising provincewide events
KARACHI: The Sindh government has intensified preparations for organising various events across the province in connection with the 'Battle of Truth' campaign and Independence Day, August 14. The Sindh government held a high-level meeting to ensure that the August 14 Independence Day celebrations across the province are magnificent, unique, and memorable. The meeting was chaired by Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon. Provincial Ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar, Syed Zulfiqar Shah, Mayor of Karachi Murtaza Wahab, and other senior government officials were in attendance. Also present were Secretary Education Zahid Abbasi, Secretary Information Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, Secretary Auqaf and Zakat Mureed Hussain Rahmoon, Secretary Local Government Dr. Waseem Shamshad Ali, Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Secretary Sports Munawar Ali Mahesar, and Secretary Women Development Abdul Rashid Zardari. The mayors of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad joined the meeting via video link. Murad inaugurates CBT Lab at SPSC
HYDERABAD: In a significant step towards modernising recruitment processes, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the newly established Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Lab at the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), equipped with 500 tablets, boasting a remarkable daily testing capacity of 2,000 candidates, making SPSC the first institution in the province to implement computer-based testing. This innovative approach aims to enhance transparency, minimise human error, and provide instant results. At the inauguration ceremony, which was hosted by Chairman SPSC Mohammad Waseem and attended by Provincial Ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon and Jam Khan Shoro, the Chief Minister unveiled the plaque and participated in a mock test, achieving an impressive score of 18 out of 20. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also took and passed the mock test. The immediate display of the test results underscored the efficiency of the new system. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Murad Shah commended the SPSC for its commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment system, stating, 'SPSC's modern system is exemplary. It is crucial to appoint the most capable individuals to improve our public institutions.' He further praised the initiative to digitise the examination process, describing it as a commendable move towards enhancing recruitment procedures and ensuring meritocracy. Murad Shah also visited the under-construction SPSC Secretariat Complex, where he was briefed on the project's progress by Secretary Works Nawaz Soho. The complex, which has an estimated cost of Rs. 2,517.430 million, has thus far utilised Rs. 2,257.242 million. For the fiscal year 2025-26, an additional Rs. 258.400 million is required, and Shah instructed relevant authorities to release these necessary funds promptly. The new complex will feature a basement, ground floor, and five additional floors, housing various facilities including offices, an auditorium, a library, a cafeteria, and a prayer area. The digital library will accommodate 300 candidates simultaneously, while the dedicated auditorium on the third floor will facilitate examinations, programs, workshops, and training sessions, reducing reliance on external venues. Expressing satisfaction with the construction progress, Shah directed that the project be completed without delay, emphasising that such infrastructure improvements are vital for strengthening institutions and maintaining transparency in recruitment processes. In addition to the inauguration, the Chief Minister received a briefing on SPSC's performance and administrative reforms, noting that over 100 employees have been promoted under the current administration, alongside enhancements in salaries and office decor. He acknowledged the historical challenges faced by SPSC and praised Chairman Mohammad Waseem for his dedication and transparent leadership. 'I want the best officers in every provincial department, and that can only happen through a strong and transparent Commission,' he asserted, directing SPSC to expedite testing for doctors, engineers, and other professionals. Chief Minister Murad Shah, in conclusion, remarked, 'The establishment of the CBT lab is a major step towards transparency and efficiency,' reinforcing his commitment to improving public service recruitment across the province.
