GloRilla Goes Home With Best Gospel/Inspirational Award At 2025 BET Awards

Yahoo10-06-2025
GloRilla gave glory to God after being awarded the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/ Inspirational Award at the 2025 BET Awards.
The rapper and VIBE cover star born Gloria Hallelujah Woods faced stiff competition in both more traditional artists and her fellow progressives. Her fellow nominees included Common & Pete Rock feat. Jennifer Hudson, Pastor Mike Jr., Fridayy, Yolanda Adams feat. Sir The Baptist & Donald Lawrence, Maverick City Music, Jordin Sparks, Chandler Moore & Anthony Gargiula, Tamela Mann, and Rapsody. Glo and her song 'Rain Down On Me' featuring Maverick City Music, Kierra Sheard, Chandler Moore and 2025 BET Award Icon Honoree Kirk Franklin, took home the top honor, with Glo reflecting on winning her first BET Award for Gospel after being nominated several times in Hip-Hop categories.
'It's a blessing to get the Gospel award first because I owe it all to God,' the Memphis native proclaimed during her acceptance speech. 'Shout out to Kirk Franklin. I'm not gon' lie, I was kind of scared to ask him for a feature on this song because ya'll know how I be rapping. When he said 'yes,' I was so excited, I had this song in the vault for so long.'
She went on to show love to several family members and friends, making sure to God a shout-out, as well.
The southern rapper spoke of her church upbringing during a conversation with Tamron Hall, telling the talk show host, 'Both my mom and dad were Christians, and we were in church all the time. If church could've been open seven days a week, we would've been there every day. I always have to put God first in whatever I do,' she added. 'I just don't let too much negativity get to me.'
'Rain Down On Me' can be found on GloRilla's debut studio album, Glorious, which she dropped in 2024. Features on the album — which VIBE deemed the best of the year — include Sexyy Red, Latto, T-Pain, Kirk Franklin, Bossman Dlow, Muni Long, Fridayy, and frequent collaborator Megan Thee Stallion. While Iowa's group of representatives, which included head coach Kirk Ferentz, defensive back Koen Entringer, defensive lineman Ethan Hurkett, and offensive lineman Logan Jones, had to wait until the last day of the three-day event to make their appearance, the Hawkeyes were still able to enjoy the spotlight in Sin City. In a behind-the-scenes video posted on their social media platforms, the program provided a very personable view of the proceedings through the lens of the three current athletes accompanying Ferentz. The video captured every aspect of Thursday's 2025 Big Ten media days appearance, spanning from the flight to Las Vegas to the humorous questions asked by the players to their soon-to-be 70-year-old head coach. Beyonce brings out Destiny's Child and more surprise guests during final Cowboy Carter show

Beyoncé capped off her Cowboy Carter Tour with a bang in Las Vegas, using the farewell show Saturday night as a chance to feature a starry lineup of surprise guests. The 'Texas Hold 'Em' singer reunited Destiny's Child during the concert at Allegiant Stadium, with Michelle Wiliams and Kelly Rowland joining Beyoncé on stage to perform a medley of the group's biggest hits, according to video footage posted to social media. The trio wore all gold ensembles when they stomped out on stage to sing their opening number of 'Lose my Breath' to an excited audience, one video showed. 'Destiny's Child, b**ch!' Beyoncé said on stage before they began to sing. Rowland and Williams then helped Beyoncé sing her 'Renaissance' track 'Energy,' where they did the 'mute challenge.' The trio performed their 2001 mega hit 'Bootylicious' to close out the reunion, another video showed. The last time Destiny's Child reunited on stage was during Beyoncé's 2018 Coachella performance. Beyoncé also enlisted her husband, rapper Jay-Z, to be part of her final show of the tour, performing their joint track 'Crazy in Love.' Jay-Z has made several surprise appearances to perform the song with his wife throughout the Cowboy Carter tour. And as if that wasn't enough star power, country star Shaboozey made a surprise appearance to perform his verse in 'Sweet Honey Buckiin,'' a track they collaborated on for Beyoncé's Grammy Award-winning 'Cowboy Carter' album. The Cowboy Carter tour kicked off in April, bringing Beyoncé all over the country and abroad. At the very end of the show, Beyoncé's 13-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, who has been a featured backup dancer throughout the tour, joined her on stage to say goodbye to the audience one last time.
