Lumley favours assisted dying in certain circumstances

Veteran actress Joanna Lumley has said she "wouldn't mind" undergoing assisted dying if she was in a situation where she was unable to talk or eat without assistance. The 79-year-old said she supported the UK's Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which was backed by British MPs in the Commons last month, that would allow terminally ill adults with fewer than six months to live to apply for an assisted death. Asked about the Bill in an interview with Saga Magazine, she said: "People are terribly anxious about it and think one may be coerced (into voluntary euthanasia). "But I'm saying this now when nobody's coercing me, don't let me turn into somebody who doesn't recognise the people I love most, where I'm having a miserable time. "When I get to the stage where I can't speak and have to be fed, that won't be me any more and that's when I wouldn't mind saying farewell." The Bill would see those wishing to go through assisted dying require approval by two doctors and a panel featuring a social worker, senior legal figure and psychiatrist. It will next come before the House of Lords for further debate and votes. One of the Bill's most high-profile backers has been TV presenter Esther Rantzen, 85, who has terminal cancer, and recently urged members of the British House of Lords not to block the legislation. Joanna Lumley is best known for her roles as Patsy Stone in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, Sapphire in ITV supernatural series Sapphire And Steel, and in The New Avengers, the 1970s revamped version of 1960s ITV spy series The Avengers. She will appear in season two of Netflix supernatural series Wednesday as Grandmama in August.

He even pleaded with Toni to pick him in a recoupling hours after having sex with Lauren. When Toni did choose him, Lauren was left in floods of tears and felt humiliated. READ MORE ON LOVE ISLAND While Toni begged him to stop messing with her feelings by continuing to flirt with Lauren. Speaking tonight, Harrison said he felt the point that his romancing of both girls went too far was after he'd slept with Lauren. "I think maybe when we did bits," he said. "Probably took it a little bit too far talking to Toni after that. "I obviously regret that massively and I apologise to both the girls but, yeah, it wasn't good for me." Most read in Love Island He then said if he had his time again he would have had up front conversations with Toni and Lauren earlier to save them getting upset. It followed Love Island fans stunned as girl is brutally dumped after arrival of latest bombshell Angel "Truthfully, although I didn't manage that, I leave with a heart more open, and a soul willing to learn. Life isn't always easy, it's felt, it's flawed, it's full of growth. Thank you to those who saw the good in me even when I struggled to see it myself. This is just the beginning," But viewers weren't buying his latest apology, with one writing on X: "Harrison has CLEARLY wrote a speech and memorised it this is not genuine." Another said: "Harrison has gotten away with what he's done way too easily." A third posted: "Harrison's not sorry for sh*t." A fourth said: "Is anyone buying this with Harrison?" "Im glad no one clapped at Harrison's poor excuse of an apology." Prior to his villa exit, Women's Aid responded to the difficult scenes in the villa, criticising the ITV reality show for perpetuating misogyny and sexism. Jessye Werner, Communications Manager at the charity, acknowledged the efforts production companies have made to highlight toxic behaviours but stressed that more progress is necessary. She told 'Women are often lied to, slut-shamed and manipulated, as well as laughed at behind their backs. Misogyny and sexism lay the foundation for the tolerance of abuse and violence – it reinforces a culture that excuses and trivialises violence against women and girls. 'More must be done to educate contestants on sexism and misogyny, and it is a great credit to viewers who take to social media, continuing to call out these behaviours as soon as they see them.'
