'In touch with states over harassment of Kashmiris post-attack', says Omar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said his government was in touch with governments of states where Kashmiris were allegedly being harassed in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
"The J&K government is in touch with the governments of the states where these reports are originating from. I'm also in touch with my counterpart Chief Ministers in these states & have requested they take extra care," Abdullah posted on X.

He was responding to a post by ruling National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar seeking Abdullah's intervention after videos of Kashmiris being allegedly harassed emerged on social media.
"Numerous videos showing Kashmiri students nationwide terrified for their safety are being widely shared on social media. Requesting @CM_JnK @OmarAbdullah sb to immediately intervene and speak to his counterparts across the country," Dar said in his post on X.
Terrorists opened fire in a meadow near the tourist hub of Pahalgam in south Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon, killing 26 people, mostly tourists. It is the worst attack in Kashmir since the Pulwama strike in 2019 when 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

TRF Echoes Pakistan Foreign Minister's Protest Of US Ban On Terror Outfit

Last Updated: This clearly exposes the synergy between Pakistan's diplomatic machinery and its terror proxies, said sources Hours after Pakistan's foreign minister and deputy PM Ishaq Dar expressed disagreement with the United States' ban on the TRF, the terror outfit issued a statement opposing the decision. The Resistance Front justifies its armed resistance in Jammu and Kashmir as a lawful and necessary response to what it describes as the 'unlawful Indian occupation". The TRF claims that its designation as a terrorist organisation by the United States is unjust and influenced by Indian pressure on American institutions. The group maintains it is a legitimate, local freedom movement fighting against the so-called 'Indian occupation" of Jammu and Kashmir, rejecting the terrorist label. It asserts that the US and other powers label Kashmiri groups as terrorists out of frustration. TRF's statement rejects the US decision, framing its struggle as a rightful liberation from an oppressive Indian regime. Top intelligence sources reveal that the TRF is not an indigenous movement but a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba. 'The timing of the TRF statement, issued just hours after Ishaq Dar criticised the US designation, clearly exposes the synergy between Pakistan's diplomatic machinery and its terror proxies, confirming state-sponsored narrative warfare," said a source. The TRF has been involved in targeted killings of civilians, migrant workers, and minority communities in Kashmir. This is evidenced by confessions, forensic recovery of weapons, and intercepted communications with handlers in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, said sources. Financial trails tracked via hawala and crypto channels link TRF operations to Pakistan-based facilitators, confirming that the group is part of a hybrid warfare doctrine combining terror and propaganda, they added. view comments First Published: July 26, 2025, 22:31 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Indian Soldiers Get Big Legal Lifeline: Historic Scheme to Protect Families of Defence Personnel

For the first time in India's history, a judicial shield has been extended to protect soldiers' families at home, while they serve the nation in distant, harsh terrains. The NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025, launched by Justice Surya Kant, ensures that Indian soldiers no longer fight a two-front war, one at the border, another in courtrooms back home. The judiciary, moved by the sacrifices during Operation Sindoor, has stepped in to assist with legal disputes, pensions, service issues, and civil matters that often go unresolved due to troop mobility. From Kargil to Kupwara, Andaman to Arunachal, legal help will now reach every soldier's doorstep. In an emotional tribute, J&K CM Omar Abdullah and LG Manoj Sinha acknowledged this as a milestone for justice delivery and defence dignity. The message is clear: 'You protect the nation, we will protect your rights.'#veerparivaryojana #indianarmy #nalsa2025 #suriyakant #defencenews #vijaydiwas #legalaidforsoldiers #operationSindoor #borderheroes #indiafirst #toi #toibharat #bharat #trending #breakingnews #indianews Read More

Magisterial inquiry, suspensions after death of Gujjar youth in ‘police firing' outside Jammu

The Jammu district administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of a Gujjar youth in an alleged police firing on the outskirts of Jammu city. Simultaneously, the police have suspended two officers and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident. Mohammad Parvez, a 21-year-old from Niki Tawi was allegedly shot in police firing near Sure Chak village on the city's outskirts, with police claiming he had neither criminal records nor links to drug peddlers. An FIR invokes Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita's sections pertaining to attempted murder and provisions pertaining to the Arms Act. In his order initiating an inquiry Friday, Jammu District Magistrate Sachin Kumar Vaishya directed the inquiry officer to conclude investigation in two weeks and submit their findings. Within hours of this, Jammu SSP Joginder Singh 'suspended with immediate effect' Head Constable Baljinder Singh and Selection Grade Constable Pawan Singh through an order issued late Friday night. 'They shall remain posted in DPL (District Police Lines), Jammu, and will deposit uniform articles in the DPL Store,' the order read, adding that 'however, they are entitled to draw subsistence allowances as admissible under rule'. In addition, police have also constituted a SIT headed by SDPO Domana Mudassar Hussain to look into the allegations of the deceased's family. Meanwhile, the family held a burial for the youth Friday after they were promised action in the case. In a statement issued Thursday, the police said that some drug peddlers fired at them and that 'one unknown person' was injured in the exchange of bullets that followed. The death of the tribal youth drew strong condemnations from J&K's top political leadership, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah describing the incident as 'highly unfortunate and deeply regrettable'. 'The use of force by the police has to be calibrated and cannot be indiscriminate,' Omar Abdullah wrote in a post on X, adding: 'J&K has paid a heavy price in the past because of incidents such as these… This incident should be investigated in a transparent and time bound manner. I send my condolences to the family of Mohd Parvez. May Allah grant him Jannat'. Former chief minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti also took to X, saying, 'Mohammad Parvez, a tribal youth, was killed by the police… He's now been labelled a drug dealer, but even if that is the case, we still live in a democratic country where justice is served through rule of law as opposed to khap panchayats or kangaroo courts.' National Conference MP from Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency Mian Altaf Ahmed, too, expressed his anguish and grief over the death of Parvez. 'I strongly condemn the killing of a youth, Mohd Parvez, resident of Niki Tawi, in police firing in Jammu yesterday. It is a broad daylight murder. A fast-track investigation should be done and strict action (must be taken) against officials involved. My solidarity and sympathy with the victim's family,' he said.
