Telangana irrigation officials urge NDSA chairman to declare NSP ownership

HYDERABAD: Stating that they were facing a lot of problems in taking up repairs at the Nagarjunasagar Project (NSP) due to the 'attitude' of the Andhra Pradesh government, the irrigation officials of Telangana on Wednesday requested the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) chairman Anil Jain to declare who the owner of the project is. The NDSA chairman, who is on a three-day tour of the sibling state, held a meeting with Telangana Irrigation officials here on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the Telangana officials said that the temporary maintenance of NSP was being carried out by them while the temporary maintenance of Srisailam Dam was being done by their Andhra Pradesh counterparts.
However, in November 2023, the government of AP deployed a huge police force on the right side of NSP, they added. Meanwhile, the NDSA chairman enquired about the steps being taken by Telangana to implement the National Dam Safety Act.
Dam break analysis
Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief G Anil Kumar informed Anil Jain that they were preparing the dam break analysis. The NDSA chairman suggested the officials prepare pre-monsoon and post-monsoon reports for every project every year. There should be a special operation and maintenance (O&M) manual for every project, he said.
Responding to this, Anil Kumar wanted the NDSA chairman to decide the owner of the NSP. He said that they were facing problems in carrying out the repairs to Nagarjunasagar and the project was in danger.

Congress government taking firm steps to claim Telangana's rightful share of Krishna and Godavari waters: Deputy CM Bhatti

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka lashed out at the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders accusing them of spreading lies and indulging in mudslinging against the Congress government, which he said is correcting the mistakes made by the previous BRS government regarding water resources. The Congress government is steadfast in its commitment to take concrete steps to claim Telangana's rightful share of Krishna and Godavari waters, he asserted. While Nagarjunasagar Left Canal can release 1 TMC of water per day, the then Andhra Pradesh government constructed projects upstream of Srisailam to draw 11 TMC per day, he said, alleging that the previous BRS government not only failed to stop them but also supported those efforts, causing serious hardships for Telangana people. He was speaking to reporters after releasing water from the Palair balancing reservoir — in Kusumanchi mandal of Khammam district — into the Nagarjunasagar Left Canal to the ayacut under the Nagarjunasagar Project (NSP) Zone II. He along with Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy performed puja before releasing water at the under tunnel (UT) of the main canal at Jujjularaopeta village near Kusumanchi. The UT was damaged due to the floods last year. Repairs on the UT were carried out on priority, making it fully operational, sources in Irrigation Department said. Mr. Vikramarka said, the Congress government under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy is taking firm steps to claim Telangana's rightful share over Krishna and Godavari rivers and complete the pending projects. Due to the BRS government's mistakes, especially the construction of the Rayalaseema Lift between Jurala and Srisailam, Khammam district — falling under the Zone II of the NSP Left Canal — is facing severe water shortages. Even the first zone in Nalgonda district is partially affected, the Deputy Chief Minister added. He asserted that the Congress government laid focus on speedy completion of projects like Palamuru-Ranga Reddy, Nettempadu, Bheema, Koilsagar and the newly initiated Narayanpet-Kodangal lift irrigation scheme on the Krishna River in a planned manner. Highlighting the Rythu Bharosa, waiver of farm loans, 24-hour free power supply to farm sector and other pro-farmer policies, he said the Congress government is determined to transform the State into granary and seed bank for the country.

A.P. Space Policy aims at attracting investments of ₹25,000 crore in next 10 years

The Government of Andhra Pradesh issued a G.O. on Sunday introducing the A.P. Space Policy (4.0) 2025-30, aimed at developing an enabling ecosystem for the development, manufacturing, and commercialisation of space technologies and services in the State. It facilitates investments amounting to ₹25,000 crore over the next 10 years and creation of 5,000 direct and 30,000 indirect jobs in high technology space-linked domains. It is stated that the Government of India (GoI) has laid out an ambitious vision for the National Space Programme (NSP) over the next few decades, encompassing advanced missions, next-generation infrastructure, and strategic research and development. These projects, driven by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Department of Space, and their commercial and regulatory arms, represent a significant opportunity for industrial participation across manufacturing, innovation, and services. Andhra Pradesh, with its geographic and policy advantages, is uniquely positioned to support and benefit from the national initiatives. Towards supporting the vision of the GoI, the State government intended to develop a comprehensive and inclusive industrial ecosystem for space sector participants, including start-ups, large enterprises, academic institutions, and global investors. Manufacturing clusters The aim is to attract domestic and foreign investments in all segments of the space value chain, facilitate space-based innovations in governance, education, agriculture, disaster management, and environment monitoring, support the NSP through industrial supply base development and setting up manufacturing clusters near Sriharikota, promote public-private partnerships, and to encourage technology transfer through regulatory frameworks and funding. The A.P. Space Policy (4.0) 2025-30 is valid for five years from the date of issue (July 13, 2025), or till a new policy is announced. A technical committee will be constituted under the Commissioner of Industries to vet and process applications for land allotment in the Space Cities proposed to be developed along the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor in Sri Sathya Sai district and in Tirupati (Routhasuramala). The government will form an SPV, 'AP Space City Corporation', which will drive all initiatives related to the development of the above Space Cities, and serve as the central agency to coordinate infrastructure development, raise start-up funds, attract investments, facilitate industry partnerships, build partnerships to attract global demand, and liaise with all GoI entities for tapping the domestic demand.

Gujarat bridge collapse: BRS livid at BJP, terms it ‘double engine' failure

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao have launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government following the collapse of a bridge in the Mahisagar River in Gujarat. They branded the incident 'yet another glorious example of the Double Engine Gujarat Model.' The BRS leaders took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticise the BJP government. Rama Rao wrote, 'Another day and another glorious example of the Double Engine Gujarat model. A Final Destination re-creation. One second you are on the bridge and the next in the river. After Morbi where 140 plus people died, this is another shocker. I am sure NDSA or other Bridge safety agencies will investigate all these falling bridges in Gujarat and Double Engine Bihar and MP, no? Wishing speedy recovery to all the injured.' Expressing his deepest condolences, Harish Rao described the incident as unfortunate. He stated that bridge collapses have become commonplace in the BJP-National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-ruled states of Bihar and Gujarat, yet 'there are no inquiries into these. No action is taken.' He drew a comparison, noting, 'In the same Medigadda, if two pillars sagged, the NDSA comes in two days and gives politically motivated reports in a hurry in the name of investigation.' He further added, 'In the same NDA-ruled state of Andhra Pradesh, even if the diaphragm wall, copper dam, and guide bund in Polavaram, which is being constructed by the central government under the supervision of the NDSA, are washed away, there is no inquiry or report.' Harish Rao criticised the BJP for its lack of response to incidents within the Revanth Reddy government's purview, such as the collapsed SLBC, Sunkishala, the washed-away water pump house, and Peddavagu. He remarked, 'The NDSA does not come. This is a testament to the BJP's dual stance. In BJP-ruled states and states ruled by BJP allies, it has one policy. And in states that question the BJP, it has another policy. This reflects the BJP's cunning mind that uses accidents as a weapon for political gains.'
