BJP alleges INDI Bloc promoting ‘Namazwad', undermining constitutional values
Addressing a press briefing, Senior BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that there is 'no mention of the concept of Waqf in the Quran, attributing it to interpretations developed by clerics. He further said the Quran encourages voluntary giving, not institutional religious control, and warned that opposition parties are attempting to 'convert Samajwad (socialism) into Namazwad.'
'If their government comes—which is not going to happen—they will throw Baba Saheb Ambedkar's Constitution in the dustbin and implement Sharia law,' the BJP Rajya Sabha MPP said.
'They are bowing before mullahs and maulavis to pursue hardline vote bank politics. Be it the Congress, the RJD, or the Samajwadi Party—they are all driven by a thirst for votes from fundamentalist sections,' he alleged.
Trivedi also revisited the Shah Bano case of 1985, accusing the Congress of having previously placed personal law above constitutional supremacy by enacting legislation that effectively overruled a Supreme Court judgment in favour of Muslim women's rights. He suggested that such precedents demonstrate the Congress's historical willingness to appease conservative religious sentiments at the expense of legal uniformity.
Reinforcing his party's stance, Trivedi said the BJP remains committed to preserving the values enshrined in the Constitution, adding that voters must choose between 'a government that respects Ambedkar's vision' and one that 'seeks to impose religious law through the backdoor.'
'Only once in Indian history has a party crossed 400 seats, and that was the Congress in 1985. What did they do? They used that majority to push Sharia over the Constitution,' the BJP leader said.
Ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar, the BJP MP remarked, 'I want to say to the people of Bihar that there are two options. The INDI alliance, which will try to implement Sharia through the back door if it comes to power, and on the other side, our government, which will remain committed to protecting Baba Saheb's constitution.'

'And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.' The post was viewed 26 million times on the social media platform. A few hours later, Musk followed up with a post claiming he will create a new political party if the bill passes. 'If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,' he wrote. 'Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.' Musk's post about the America Party was viewed 32 million times on X. In a post on Truth Social early Tuesday, Trump said Musk has known that he's against an EV mandate and that people should not be forced to own electric vehicles. 'Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,' Trump wrote. Trump also suggested that the US could cut back on spending by targeting segments of the economy in which Musk plays a significant roll. 'No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!' Trump posted, alluding to the cost-cutting entity that until recently, was headed by Musk. Several hours later, while standing on the White House lawn before heading to Florida, Trump continued to take shots at Musk and what he believes to be his biggest grievance, the billionaire's displeasure over potentially losing EV subsidies. When asked by a reporter if he was going to deport Musk, Trump warned that the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, could come back to hurt the billionaire. 'We'll have to take a look,' Trump said. 'We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn't that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies.' Musk responded on X by saying he would refrain from escalating the conflict, but he took another shot at Trump and Republicans anyway. Bengal BJP to get new state prez tomorrow
Kolkata: With dates for the election of the state president announced on Tuesday, Bengal BJP faces the challenging task of finding its new Bengal chief before going into the 2026 assembly polls. The results will be declared on Thursday. After Sukanta Majumdar's term ended last Sept, the BJP brass talked to workers and district functionaries to assess the candidate most suitable for the post. Majumdar had replaced Dilip Ghosh as state president after the 2021 assembly polls. He was inducted as a Union Minister later and opted out in tune with BJP's "one man, one post" policy. BJP MPs protest parliament panel calling Medha Patkar, meeting cut short
A parliamentary committee meeting ended abruptly on Tuesday as BJP MPs protested against the panel's decision to hear activist Medha Patkar, who has long been accused by the ruling party of working against the country's development interests in the name of public and environmental causes. Former Union minister and BJP MP Parshottam Rupala was joined by other lawmakers from his party as they walked out of the meeting, with some dubbing Patkar as "anti-national". A BJP MP wondered if leaders from Pakistan could also be called at such a meeting. The Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, headed by Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, had called Patkar to hear her views on the implementation and effectiveness of the land acquisition law enacted by Parliament when the Congress-led UPA government was in power in 2013. Ulaka defended the decision, telling PTI that it is a standard practice for a parliamentary committee to hear civil society members and other stakeholders on various issues. He added, "We wanted to hear their views on the land acquisition law. We wanted an opinion from everyone, but they (BJP) didn't allow it." A BJP member said their primary objection was to calling Patkar, who was the face of the 'Narmada Bachao Andolan' protest against a determined push by the Gujarat government, headed then by Narendra Modi as chief minister, to raise the height of Sardar Sarovar Dam. The state government's views finally prevailed and Modi, who took over as prime minister in 2014, has often spoken about the efforts to stall the project since its foundation was laid in the 1960s. As the BJP MPs walked out, Ulaka said he decided to end the meeting due to a lack of quorum. He said, "As per rule, a quorum of 10 members is required. When the BJP MPs walked out, there was no quorum, and the meeting ended." According to a source, those invited before the panel included officials from the Environment and Forest Ministry. Activists, including Patkar and Prakash Raj, were also asked to appear before the committee. The source said BJP MPs objected to Patkar appearing before the panel, and called her "anti-national". Another source said a miffed MP also wondered if the prime minister of Pakistan could be called for questioning by the panel. When the meeting started, opposition MPs were of the opinion that Patkar should be heard, to which the BJP MPs did not agree. Asked about the incident, Patkar said she was invited to appear before the panel, and while she and others were waiting, they saw some MPs leave. Later, they were informed that the meeting had ended, she added. Patkar said she has appeared before parliamentary committees earlier as well. "I have never experienced anything like this before. It is important to talk about the land acquisition law," she said.
