Marketing assistant claims trial to flashing, sexually abusing stepdaughters
PETALING JAYA : A 27-year-old cosmetics marketing assistant claimed trial today to flashing and sexually abusing his two stepdaughters.
The accused, who was not named to protect the identity of his stepdaughters and is divorced, pleaded not guilty to three charges in the Alor Gajah sessions court before judge Aiza Khairuddin, Harian Metro reported.
On the first two charges, he is accused of committing physical sexual abuse against the girls in their home in Alor Gajah between May 11 and July 5, in a bedroom and a bathroom.
He is also accused of exposing his genitals to the children in the kitchen during the same period.
The first two offences fall under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term and whipping upon conviction.
The third offence is under Section 15(a)(i) of the same Act for non-physical sexual abuse. If found guilty, he faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both.
Deputy public prosecutor Ali Hussain proposed bail at RM20,000 for all charges, with one surety, and conditions that the accused report to the nearest police station once a month and avoid contact with the victims and prosecution witnesses.
Defence lawyer Anif Rafih asked for bail to be reduced to RM12,000, saying his client earns RM2,000 monthly and has to support his two-year-old biological son, who is under the care of his mother in Pendang, Kedah.
'My client has no objection to the added conditions and promises not to disturb the victims,' he said.
The court allowed bail at RM15,000 with one surety and imposed the prosecution's requested conditions. Case mention has been scheduled for Aug 25.

Football federation duped by fake emails claiming Xavi and Guardiola applied for India coaching job
NEW DELHI, July 26 — The All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed today that a job application attributed to former Barcelona manager and Spain midfielder Xavi Hernandez for the India head coaching role was a hoax. The AIFF's national team director told The Times of India on Thursday that Xavi's name was on the list of applicants. The report also quoted an AIFF technical committee member saying the his candidacy was deemed too expensive to pursue. 'The AIFF received an email furnishing the applications from Spanish coaches Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez. The authenticity of their applications could not be confirmed, and it has since emerged that the email applications were not genuine,' the AIFF said in a statement. It had not been previously reported that the AIFF had also received an application purporting to be from Manchester City manager Guardiola. The AIFF Technical Committee said it had reviewed 170 applications for the Indian men's head coach role, narrowing the list to 10 before short-listing three candidates. The AIFF sacked former India manger Igor Stimac in June last year before appointing Spaniard Manolo Marquez, who left the job this month and returned to his role as coach of Indian Super League team FC Goa. — Reuters

‘Don't click': Public warned of RM100 Sara scam links posing as government portals
MUAR, July 26 — The public is urged to remain vigilant against fraudulent links circulated by scammers related to the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) initiative, which are designed to collect personal information, said Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. She said the scammers often employ deceptive tactics by sharing links accompanied by posters that appear convincing, incorporating official-looking elements such as the Malaysia Madani and Bersama Malaysiaku logos to mislead recipients. 'One such example is the link which falsely claims to provide official information about the RM100 Sara aid and prompts users to submit their personal information. The Ministry of Finance confirmed yesterday that this link is fake,' she said. 'My advice is, if the information truly comes from the government, the link will typically end with '. - where 'gov' stands for government,' she told reporters after attending the Madani Community Service programme held in conjunction with the launch of National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign here. She added that numerous complaints had been received regarding the matter, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had taken steps to block the fraudulent link. Teo said that such scams often evolve by creating new websites with similar names, such as ' or ' and urged the public to remain vigilant. She also stressed that no money will be deposited into e-wallets or Touch 'n Go accounts. Instead, eligible MyKad holders only need to present their identification cards at participating outlets, including Lotus's, Mydin, 99 Speedmart and selected grocery stores — to access the benefits. 'The primary role of the MyKad in this programme is solely to verify the identity of recipients. It has no connection to any e-wallet platform, so there's no need to worry if your MyKad isn't linked to certain applications,' Teo said. She also urged the public to rely only on official websites or verified social media accounts of government agencies, such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications for the latest and most accurate information. 'Our tagline for fake news is 'If you're not sure, don't share.' Today, I want to add: 'If you're not sure, don't click,'' she added. — Bernama
