Libya is participating in the 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), which kicked off on Monday in Sucre, Bolivia, with more than 90 countries from around the world taking part.
The Libyan delegation's participation is supported by the Libyan Academy for Communications and Informatics, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
Representing Libya at this prestigious global event are students Mousa Abubakr and Al-Baraa Abdeljaleel, who secured first and second place respectively in last month's national informatics competition, organized by the Scientific Committee of the Libyan Olympiad in Informatics.

Libya plans new standards for scientific journals

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Omran Al-Qeeb, met on Sunday with the National Programme for the Development of Scientific Journals to discuss the second phase of Libya's journal classification standards. According to a statement published by the ministry, the meeting focused on reviewing the updated classification criteria, which are scheduled to come into effect at the beginning of 2026. Preparations are also underway for a series of workshops aimed at introducing and implementing the new standards. The first workshop is set to take place on Thursday, 31 July 2025, at Misrata University. It will target editorial boards of scientific journals issued by universities in Misrata, Bani Walid, Zaytuna, Al-Marqab, and Asmarya, as well as editorial teams from technical and vocational education institutions in those regions. The initiative is part of a broader effort to raise the academic standards of Libyan scientific publications.
