Yahoo17-04-2025
(FOX40.COM) — The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office arrested a 58-year-old man on Tuesday who was connected with an extensive child sexual abuse material investigation.
According to MSCSO, the man has been identified as Robert Brooks.
Officials said Brooks was found and taken in custody in Calaveras County where he had been working. At this time, he is being held at the Mariposa County Jail with bail being set at $50,000.
MCSO stated this arrest came from a search warrant that was executed last year in September, at a property in Coulterville and Greeley Hill in Mariposa County. During the search, investigators found 133 digital devices at Brooks' residence.

MCSO said, 'Subsequent forensic warrants were obtained, and an initial preview revealed child sexual abuse material on 25 of the devices.'
Authorities said over the following months, a joint investigation involving the MCSO, the Central California Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Fresno Multi-Agency Digital Lab led to the forensic extracting and analysis of the devices which resulted in finding 14,649 videos and 886,169 images with a shocking amount being identified as CSAM.
MSCO said a Ramey warrant was issued and Brooks was arrested without incident. He has been booked on possession of obscene matter depicting a minor engaged in a sexual act.
According to Stephen G. Rodrigues and Partners website, A Ramey Warrant is a type of arrest warrant that is issued by a judge before formal criminal charges have been filed by the District Attorney. This was named after a case in California People v. Ramey in 1967.
This investigation remains ongoing and further charges may be filed pending continued forensic analysis said MCSO. If anyone has any information relating to the case is asked to reach out at 209-966-3615

Former New York prison guard sentenced to 15 years for beating death of inmate

UTICA, N.Y. (AP) — A former corrections officer was sentenced to 15 years in prison Monday for his role in the death of a Black inmate whose beating by a group of guards at an upstate New York prison was captured on bodycam videos. Christopher Walrath was one of six guards charged with murder in the death of Robert Brooks, who was pummeled at the Marcy Correctional Facility on Dec. 9. Walrath pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in May under the first plea deal among the guards charged with murder. 'In that video, I see you and your fellow officers treating him as if his life holds no value at all, as if you're entitled to brutalize him for sport,' Robert Brooks Jr., the victim's son, told the court. The son said in his victim impact statement that, 'I am not OK and I never will be.' Brooks had been serving a 12-year sentence for first-degree assault since 2017 and was transferred to Marcy from a nearby lockup on the night he was beaten. The videos show Brooks being struck in the chest with a shoe, lifted by his neck and then dropped. Under questioning in May from Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, Walrath admitted that he and other guards assaulted Brooks, that he put Brooks in a chokehold, and that he struck the inmate's body and groin. In addition to the six guards charged in February with murder, three more prison workers were indicted for manslaughter and another for evidence tampering. Prosecutors have said three other prison workers have reached agreements. A guard pleaded guilty in May to attempted tampering with physical evidence and was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. Trials were scheduled to begin in October for guards who have rejected plea deals. Fitzpatrick also is prosecuting guards in the fatal beating of Messiah Nantwi on March 1 at another Marcy lockup, the Mid-State Correctional Facility. Ten guards were indicted in April, including two who are charged with murder.

Dark web child abuse websites dismantled by DOJ, FBI

President Donald Trump's Justice Department recently announced that a joint operation resulted in the dismantling of four dark web sites responsible for the distribution of child sexual abuse material to hundreds of thousands of users. The operation also resulted in 18 convictions. In a press release last Wednesday, the Justice Department confirmed that 18 people were convicted as part of Operation Grayskull, which was coordinated by the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The press release noted that the operation led to the 'dismantling' of four dark web sites that were 'dedicated to images and videos containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).' 'Today's announcement sends a clear warning to those who exploit and abuse children: you will not find safe haven, even on the dark web,' Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department's Criminal Division said. 'These offenders thought that they could act without consequences, but they were wrong. The Justice Department described the dismantled dark web sites as 'some of the most egregious' sites on the dark web, with some website sections even featuring 'infants and toddlers, as well as depictions of violence, sadism, and torture.' The department also noted that the websites gave users advice to avoid being detected by law enforcement officials. FBI Director Kash Patel said Operation Grayskull is one of the 'most significant strikes' against online child exploitation networks. 'We've not only dismantled dangerous platforms on the dark web, but we've also brought key perpetrators to justice and delivered a powerful message: you cannot hide behind anonymity to harm children,' Patel stated. The Justice Department confirmed that nine individuals were convicted and sentenced in Florida for running the main dark web site that was targeted by Operation Grayskull, while nine individuals were convicted for operating other dark web sites devoted to child sexual abuse material. Additionally, two other individuals died before they were charged for their role in the dark web sites. In addition to the convictions in the United States, the Justice Department noted that other individuals were arrested in Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. According to CBS News, Operation Grayskull started in 2020 after law enforcement officials observed an increase in traffic to a dark web site that was suspected of providing child sexual abuse material. An FBI official told CBS News that the dark web sites targeted in Operation Grayskull attracted over 120,000 people, had at least 100,000 website visits in one day, and had millions of files. 'Even for prosecutors, it is difficult to understand how pervasive this is,' Galeotti told CBS News. 'Because it happens on the dark web, people aren't aware of it. It's extremely troubling.'
