We won't stop until Bastar is rid of Naxalism: Senior cop
Sukma, A day after a police officer was killed in an IED blast in Chhattsigarh's Sukma district, IG, Bastar Range Sundarraj P on Tuesday visited the incident site and said the police were fully prepared to take on Naxalites.
The police will not stop until the Naxal menace is eradicated from Bastar, he added.
Another Improvised Explosive Device planted by Naxalites at the incident site was also recovered on Tuesday, he said.
Security forces have launched an operation in the area to trace Naxalites involved in Monday's incident.
Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Girepunje was killed and two other police officers were injured when an IED planted by Naxalites exploded at a stone quarry in Konta police station area.
After visiting the blast site on Tuesday morning, Sundarraj reached Konta police station and interacted with police personnel.
He paid tribute to the deceased officer and said his sacrifice will not go in vain.
During an interaction with jawans, the IG said they are prepared on every front and will strongly take on Naxalites.
He urged all security personnel across the Bastar Range to stay strong, determined and resilient.
"We will not stop until Bastar is completely free from the grip of Naxalism. The sacrifice of Akash Rao and other martyrs will not go in vain. Their legacy will continue to inspire our mission for peace, prosperity and progress," he added.
After the incident on Monday, a Bomb Detection and Disposal Team searched the entire site and recovered another pressure IED planted there and defused it, he said.
The team also recovered the pressure IED components used in the incident and debris.
An FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident at Konta Police Station and further investigation has been initiated, the official said.
Security personnel have launched a search in the nearby areas to trace the Maoist cadres responsible for the incident. Stringent action will be taken against the perpetrators of this cowardly act, he said.
Girepunje , who hailed from Raipur district, was recruited as deputy superintendent of police in 2013. He had been serving as ASP, Konta since March last year.

Chhattisgarh secures ₹1.25 trillion in investments at state industry event
Chhattisgarh received investment proposals of Rs 1.25 trillion in various sectors on Tuesday, boosting the cumulative value of such offers to more than Rs 6.75 trillion over the past 18 months. The latest investment proposals were finalised in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at the 'Industry Dialogue 2' event organised by the state Commerce and Industries Department, an official release stated. These investment proposals for diverse sectors, including information technology, semiconductors, healthcare, green energy and logistics, reflect a strong and growing confidence among investors. "Once known for its forests and mineral resources, Chhattisgarh has now been emerging as a hub of opportunity and innovation, and one of India's fastest-growing industrial hubs. Chhattisgarh is no longer just a land of minerals, but a land of potential. "We are bringing remote regions such as Bastar into the mainstream of development. Investors today are getting stability, security, and swift decision-making," Sai said on the occasion. He stated that places like Bastar, once focused on security, have been transforming into hubs of industry, technology, and jobs. This progress is a clear step toward realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India. He said the recently implemented Industrial Policy 2025 has played a crucial role in making Chhattisgarh a natural destination for investors. The key features of this policy include a single-window system 2.0, over 350 reforms, fast-track land allotment, auto-approval mechanisms, and special incentives for women entrepreneurs, SC/STs, third gender persons, and rehabilitation of surrendered Naxalites. Under the Industrial Policy, Chhattisgarh's first Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is proposed near Raipur, with a focus on IT, pharmaceuticals, and electronics manufacturing. The SEZ will offer plug-and-play infrastructure, subsidised land, and rapid administrative clearances- designed to attract significant foreign direct investment and enhance the state's export-oriented growth model, the chief minister said. He said the government has accorded industrial status to the tourism sector and is making efforts to develop tribal regions such as Bastar and Surguja as heritage and eco-tourism hubs. Mega projects, such as a 200-acre medical city and a 142-acre pharma hub in Nava Raipur, are being rolled out to boost healthcare infrastructure, employment, and sectoral investment. The chief minister also highlighted salient features of the Chhattisgarh Logistics Policy 2025, which was approved by the state cabinet on Monday. This policy aims to transform the state into a national logistics hub, with a special focus on tribal areas. In districts including Bastar and Surguja, the government plans to develop logistics parks, cold chains, transport centres, and air cargo facilities. Companies investing in these regions will receive 10 per cent additional grants and up to 40 per cent infrastructure support, he said. The state government highlighted its success in eradicating the Naxalite menace. "Once synonymous with Naxalism, Bastar is now scripting a new story of peace and progress. In the past 18 months, 435 hardcore Naxalites have been neutralised, 1,457 surrendered, and 146 have been arrested", the government stated. Through the Niyad Nellanar Yojana ('your good village' scheme), remote villages are now connected with roads, electricity, education, and healthcare. Notably, Belkapalli village received electricity after 77 years, and roads have been constructed to Puvarti, the native village of dreaded Naxal commander Hidma, the statement said. On the infrastructure development front, the Chhattisgarh government has allocated Rs 9,500 crore, including Rs 2,000 crore for road construction, for the financial year 2025-26, it said. Envisioning net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, Chhattisgarh has been prioritising green steel production, solar power expansion, and sustainable industrial zones. The government stated that it aims to increase Chhattisgarh's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) from Rs 5.68 trillion in 2024-25 to Rs 6.35 trillion by the end of the current financial year. The state's growth rate of 7.5 per cent remains above the national average.

Odisha police guns down two Maoists in Kandhamal forest
BERHAMPUR/PHULBANI: Odisha Police gunned down two Maoists in Kandhamal district and seized arms and ammunition from their camp on Monday. The deceased were identified as Manku and Chandan, both natives of neighbouring Chhattisgarh and members of Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division of the banned CPI-Maoist outfit. Apart from recovering the bodies of the two ultras, security forces seized a rifle, revolvers, cartridges, walkie-talkie sets, batteries and other items from the encounter site, informed Kandhamal SP Harisha BC. The SP said acting on a tip-off about presence of Maoists in Puranjiba reserve forest within Baliguda police limits along Kandhamal-Kalahandi border, a combing operation was launched by the district voluntary force (DVF) and SOG jawans since the last two days. 'Around noon today, there was a gunfight between security forces and Maoists. The ultras opened fire on spotting the security personnel, prompting retaliation. In the ensuing exchange of fire, the two Maoists were eliminated,' he said. Manku worked as an area committee member (ACM) in the KKBN division. Chandan was a member of the banned outfit operating in Kandhamal district. Security forces have intensified combing operation to ensure that no other Maoists are present in the area, the SP added. Following the encounter, DGP YB Khurania congratulated the Kandhamal SP and the DVF team on the success. Sources said with the anti-Naxal operation being intensified in Chhattisgarh, the Maoists are reportedly sneaking into the forests of Odisha. Kandhamal with its dense forests is proving to be a safe haven for the ultras. However, their activities have been curtailed due to incessant rains in the region since the last one week. In 2024, security forces killed six Maoists and arrested another eight ultras in Odisha. Similarly, 24 Maoists laid down their arms last year.

Two Maoists killed in encounter
Bhubaneswar: Two Maoists were gunned down by Odisha Police in Kandhamal district on Monday and arms and ammunition seized from their camp, an official statement said. The deceased Maoists were identified as Manku and Chandan. While Manku was an Area Committee Member (ACM) in the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), Chandan was a party member. Apart from recovering the two bodies, the security personnel seized a rifle from the spot. Revolvers, cartridges, walkie-talkie sets, batteries and other items have also been seized, the statement issued by the police headquarters said. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of some Maoists near a protected forest in Baliguda police station area, the District Voluntary Force (DVF) launched an operation. 'Today around noon, there was a gunfight between DVF jawans and Naxalites. Manku and Chandan were killed in an exchange of gunfire. Police seized the bodies and intensified the operation in the area,' the statement said. Odisha DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania congratulated Kandhamal SP Harisha B C and members of the DVF for the successful operation.
