KUALA TERENGGANU: Police in Terengganu have opened 12 investigation papers (IPs) over alleged phishing in a lucky draw contest.
Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor said the IPs were to investigate 12 reports received in the district since January involving losses totalling RM259,103.57.
He said the latest report was received on Sunday (June 1) from a 52-year-old teacher who lost RM5,499, believed to be after she clicked on a lucky draw link on Facebook.
"The victim lodged a police report after finding her money in two bank accounts missing when she checked with her banks.
"Another report was also lodged yesterday by a trader, also 52. She lost RM14,110 in three bank accounts after clicking on a link on a social media site," he said in a statement on Monday (June 2).
ACP Azli reminded the public to be vigilant of such scams and not to be easily influenced by the lure of quick profits or gains.
He said anyone with information regarding a fraud syndicate should contact the nearest police station or the CCID Scam Response Centre at 03-26101559. – Bernama Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel for breaking news alerts and key updates!

Teen girls tricked into sending nudes

IPOH: What started as a health check ordered by their 'teacher' turned into a digital trap for two teenage girls in Manjung. They were referred to a bogus doctor who solicited nude photos under the guise of cancer screening. Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the victims, both 15, were asked to send photos to the bogus doctor on messaging app Telegram, purportedly for breast and cervical cancer examination. 'Both victims were contacted on the app by another person who assumed the identity of their school teacher,' he said when contacted. 'They were then introduced to the 'doctor' who asked for personal and family information before the photo request.' ACP Hasbullah said they were told that the photos would suffice without needing physical examination, he said in a statement on Saturday. 'The girls only realised they had been scammed after talking to the actual teacher. 'They lodged a police report as they were afraid that their photos would be circulated. 'The case is now being investigated under Section 15(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act,' he added. ACP Hasbullah urged the public, especially parents and school authorities, to be more alert when it comes to current crimes involving sexual offences against children. 'Children, especially pupils and students, should always be reminded not to easily share personal details with strangers. 'We also urge users to activate the two-step verification on the social messaging app as a means to protect their accounts,' he added. Those with information regarding the case can contact investigating officer Insp Nur Munawarah Ahmad on 011-1624 0391 or the Manjung operations room at 05-688 6222 or WhatsApp Hotline at 017-682 8005, ACP Hasbullah said.

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Ramli Kasa said the incident, which occurred in Jalan Telok Gong, Klang, at 10am on Saturday, had gone viral online. 'The child and a seven-year-old passenger are siblings and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cardholders, while the other child is their Malaysian cousin. 'The mother of the two siblings was driving from Bandar Sultan Suleiman in North Klang Port to her sister's house in Telok Gong. The woman left the children for a moment to answer the call of nature. 'When the woman went to the toilet, the 11-year-old child took over the wheel so that they could go to a shop,' he said in a statement yesterday. ACP Ramli said the child drove for about 2km before losing control of the vehicle when approaching the shop. No one was injured and the car only sustained minor damage from the crash, Bernama reported. Police have recorded statements from the parents of the child driver.
