Addressing concerns over pensions, the Chief Minister said the National Pension Scheme (NPS) was implemented by the central government. He noted that the state now generates 34,000 megawatts, with plans to scale it to 60,000 megawatts, a move aimed at ensuring at least seven hours of daytime power supply to farmers. 'The electricity sector is essential. You have been working with dedication. The government is ready to meet your demands. We are with you — and we ask you to stand with us too,' he told the employees. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who also spoke at the event, asserted that the Congress government will not permit the privatisation of Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) as long as it remains in power.
'As long as Siddaramaiah and I are in power, we won't allow privatisation of ESCOMs in Karnataka. There were attempts to allow entry of private players, but I did not allow it,' Shivakumar said. He claimed that there was significant pressure from the Centre during his earlier tenure as the Energy Minister, especially after the BJP government privatised ESCOMs in Mumbai, Delhi, and other cities.
However, he said he resisted the pressure and stood by the efficiency of the corporation's workforce. 'When I took over, the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) loss stood at 19–20 per cent. We brought it down to 10 per cent, which is now a benchmark in the country,' Shivakumar said, noting that most states continue to report losses of 17–18 per cent. He added that during his tenure, the state's generation capacity doubled from 11,000 MW to 23,000 MW, and that 24,000 employees were recruited through a transparent process, ensuring job creation without corruption.
Highlighting innovations like the Pavagada Solar Park, Shivakumar said the government adopted a land-leasing model rather than acquisition, which allowed farmers to retain ownership and earn annual rental income — a model later adopted by the Union government

Karnataka generates 200MW solar power under Kusum-C; 545MW to follow
Under the Kusum-C scheme, which aims to solarise agricultural feeders and provide daytime electricity supply to farmers' pumpsets, 200MW of electricity is being produced. In the coming months, 545MW of electricity will be generated, stated energy minister KJ George. Speaking to reporters after the energy department's progress review meeting of Hassan district, held on Friday at the Zilla Panchayat hall in the city, George said, "Under the Kusum-C scheme, construction of solar units with a capacity of around 200MW is completed. In the next few months, solar units with a capacity of 545MW will be commissioned at 93 locations. This will help provide an adequate daytime electricity supply to farmers." "The state govt has set a target of generating 2,400MW of solar electricity through feeder solarisation of agricultural pumpsets under the Kusum-C scheme. Recently, chief minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated a solar power unit established under the Kusum-C scheme in Gauribidanur. The feeder solarisation work is progressing at a rapid pace," the energy minister added. Under the Kusum-C scheme, generating 1MW of electricity requires 4 acres of land. If govt land is available, CM Siddaramaiah has directed that it be allocated free of cost. However, private power producers must pay ₹25,000 per acre, which will be deposited with the district commissioner and used to improve govt schools and anganwadis in villages where the substations are located, the minister elaborated. "If private land is used, developers awarded the power generation contracts will lease the land and pay landowners a minimum of ₹25,000 per acre," George said. Of the 4 lakh unauthorised irrigation pumpsets in the state, 3 lakh are already regularised. For pumpsets within 500m of power feeders, transformers will be installed by the department. Those beyond 500m will receive solar pumpsets under the Kusum-B scheme, he said. Earlier, during a progress review meeting, the district MLAs raised issues concerning the energy department in their constituencies. In response, George instructed the CESC MD to take swift action and reiterated that officials should proactively consult elected representatives and follow through on their suggestions. Bengaluru: BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya on Friday accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of spreading fake news with his recent remarks linking Covid-19 vaccines with a spate of heart attack deaths in the state's Hassan district, saying there is no vaccine against 'dissident' activities. The CM has suggested that the recent heart attack deaths in Hassan district may be linked to the vaccination drive. He also claimed the vaccines were 'hastily' approved. Taking a dig at Siddaramaiah, the BJP MP said that the Karnataka government has been speaking about tough legislation, including a seven-year jail term and fine, against the promotion and spread of fake news. 'At the rate at which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been speaking, I think someone will register the first complaint against him for spreading #fakenews on #Covid vaccines. The Union government has already clarified on this issue,' he said in a post on 'X'. According to him, the Congress' effort is to demoralise the scientific community, which saved millions of lives during the pandemic. 'I hope someone in the Congress cautions him (Siddaramaiah). Perhaps there is nobody left to caution him because nobody in his own High Command or locally think his government will survive for long. There is no vaccine against dissident activities,' Siroya said in the post.
