Future Queen of the Netherlands, 21, rushed to hospital for surgery after falling from her horse
The future Queen, 21, was left with a broken arm following her fall, which took place on Tuesday, and is set to undergo surgery at the UMC Utrecht.
Her mother, Queen Maxima, reportedly left her engagement with the MIND Us Foundation at Noordeinde Palace after being informed of the news.
The Princess of Orange is the eldest child of the Queen and King Willem-Alexander - and has recently begun to take on solo engagements and more responsibility in the Royal Household.
A statement from the palace translated into English read: 'The Princess of Orange broke her upper arm today after falling from her horse. She will undergo surgery at the UMC Utrecht.
'More information will follow as soon as it becomes clear what the possible consequences are for official obligations and other agreements.'
Princess Catharina-Amalia's page on the Royal House's website notes that 'in her free time she enjoys horse-riding' and she's known to be a keen equestrian.
In the book Amalia, the princess even told author Claudia de Breij: 'I am most who I am on a horse. If you really want to get to know me, you have to see me ride.'
It's not the first time her risky hobby has led to injury, as she previously dislocated her shoulder when riding her horse Mojito as a teenager.
'You know what they say, right: "You're not an Amazon until you've fallen seven times," Amalia said at the time, per Dutch news outlet Libelle.
The royal family is due to have their summer photo session on Thursday - although this may now be postponed.
Princess Amalia is the eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima and has siblings Princess Alexia, 19, and Princess Ariane, 18.
Amalia, who is first in line to the throne, is said to speak fluent Spanish thanks to her mother, who is Argentine by birth.
She is currently studying for a degree in Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics at Amsterdam University.
In February, she attended her first royal event alone as she begins a long preparation to one day be queen.
The princess christened a new ship - the Dan Helder - before it set out on its maiden voyage.
The future European queen recently spent over a year living in Spain as a result of growing fears for her safety after being threatened with kidnap by Dutch organised crime gangs.
Officials would not confirm details of Amalia's initial departure from her studies in Amsterdam, but the move came weeks after reports that Amalia and Prime Minister Mark Rutte were mentioned in communications by organised crime groups - leading to fears of kidnappings.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte said at the time: 'I'm very sorry for her and I'm obviously very concerned about it.'
He added that Dutch authorities were doing everything to ensure that the princess is safe.
'She can't live in Amsterdam and she can't really go outside (the palace)... It has enormous consequences on her life. There is no student life for her like others have,' said an emotional Queen Maxima at the time.
Amalia herself told reporters during a royal family tour of the Caribbean early last year that she missed 'the normal life of a student', having hoped she would be able to enjoy the student experience like her peers.
'Sadly the reality was different,' she said.
Her father, King Willem-Alexander, said in the podcast Through the Eyes of the King that the situation had 'had a very hard impact' on his daughter and his family.
'The uncertainty, the lack of freedom, that is not how you want to raise your children and what you want to pass on to your children,' he said.
The Minister for Justice and Security, Dilan Yesilgöz, told reporters in the weeks following Amalia's withdrawal from studies in Amsterdam: 'I guarantee that our security services work hard day and night to guarantee her safety.
'It is terrible that this is necessary, in the first place for the Crown Princess herself.'
NOS later said that Amalia was able to return from Madrid to live and study in the Netherlands again - though the threat had not completely disappeared.
Ahead of her 18th birthday, royal spoke openly about the benefits of therapy in an authorised biography - having lost her aunt Ines to suicide in 2018.
She said: 'Sometimes it all gets too much for me - school, friends - and then I talk to someone.
'If I need it, I'll make an appointment... talking to a professional every now and then is quite normal.'
Amalia had also been shielded for years from the public eye after the family after being the victim of cruel body shaming on social media.
In February 2023, Princess Catharina-Amalia was the subject of cruel body-shaming on social media, which prompted royal fans to jump to her defence.
One wrote on X: 'People who are body shaming Princess Amalia of Netherlands are the same who body shaming Princess Catherine because she is too skinny with no curves.
'That's the reality in this social media, people hate that you are happy with yourself and that somebody loves you for the way you are.'
Another added: 'I think she is absolutely beautiful!'
In July 2020, Portuguese magazine Cara issued an apology to Princess Amalia after they labelled the 16-year-old 'plus-sized' on a front cover and claimed she had 'defended her figure of "real women"'.
One critic wrote on Instagram: 'Who gave you permission to comment on the body of a 16-year-old girl?'
Another added: 'They are talking about the body of a minor, adolescent and growing.'
But in recent months she's delighted royal fans by coming into her own - and in April donated a garden of tulips to the city of Madrid.

A woman who claims to have the 'world's biggest lips' has revealed what she looked like before undergoing dramatic surgery and getting copious amounts of lip filler. Andrea Ivanova from Bulgaria regularly hits the headlines due to her enhanced appearance, which has seen her fork out an estimated $27,000 on lip filler alone after starting her transformation in 2018. The 27-year-old has previously admitted she struggles to find love because of her bold look, but it hasn't stopped her from achieving her goal of having the most exagerrated lips and cheeks in the world. Now, Andrea has revealed what she looked like before altering her face via cosmetic enhancements. In her 'before' photos, a youthful Andrea can be seen with regular proportioned lips. But since undergoing her enhancement journey, she has become scarcely recognizable. Her long list of treatments included chin shaping, enlargement and lengthening; jaw shaping and lip augmentation; as well as cheekbone enhancement - all at once. She's previously spoken about how she likes to stand out from the crowd with her unique look. 'I like exaggerated things like huge lips, a face with many fillers, heavy and eccentric make-up. 'I don't like boring ordinary appearances and I am a fan of huge shapes and eccentric beauties. Natural beauty is boring to me so I decided to change my appearance radically.' The social media influencer has spoken openly about having had six procedures done in a single day as an 'experiment' - even though her usual doctor refused to do it. 'My doctor was afraid to inject more hyaluronic acid into my lips, but I was adamant that I wanted more, and I will not stop. 'I wanted to do six procedures at once. Until now, I always did these on different areas of the face on different days.' Andrea had previously only ever had a maximum of three needles in her face at the same time. 'But this time, I wanted to experiment with myself to see how many injections and [amounts of filler] would affect my body,' she said. She even had to seek out a doctor in Germany to do the procedures, which went ahead in February last year, as her usual surgeon simply refused. And even though Andrea was excited about the experience, she confessed it had been extremely painful. 'I have pain all over my face right now and my jaw and chin hurt a lot,' she said at the time. 'It's hard for me to smile because of the pain in my cheekbones and there's a pulling sensation over my face.' But Andrea insisted the feeling was normal after treatment because the 'filler hadn't settled into place'. Although she finds eating difficult, Andrea is adamant her lips 'don't hurt'. She added: 'I only feel a slight discomfort, but that's where I have the most amount of filler and where I've had injections the most amount of times. The more filler there is, the less the area hurts.' Despite the pain, Andrea doesn't have any plans to slow down or reduce her voluptuous look. The former philosophy student planned to go to Germany to visit the same surgeon, as her usual doctor is skeptical about going forward with her transformation.' But now even the German medical practitioner has revealed their concerns. 'I had no fears about having so many injections at once because I trust my doctor and they are a great professional in cosmetic surgery,' Andrea said. 'But they are afraid I'll get necrosis and have to have the tissue surgically removed from my lips if I carry on. 'There are risks involved, such as inflammation, and raised body temperature, especially with so much at once.' 'I have facial swelling and bruising right now, which is normal due to the many needles, but I think in a few days, I'll recover.' She continued: 'You shouldn't judge people for their looks. It's their taste and no one has the right to be offended because of it. 'I think I'm going to carry on doing multiple injections in one day going forward, as it makes me very happy.'

Beaming King Charles waves as he attends Sunday church service in Norfolk
Charles smiled and waved as he arrived for Sunday service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk today - without the Queen by his side. The monarch, 76, appeared to be in high spirits as he arrived dressed in a smart grey suit and brown loafers, carrying his own umbrella. The venue is known for being a regular place of worship for members of the royal family, particularly during Christmas time. It is not known why Camilla, 77, wasn't present for today's service. Meanwhile, earlier this week however, the King's wife attended the annual King George Racing Weekend in Ascot, dressed in an elegant in an off-white ensemble. She was also seen recently attending the annual Sandringham Flower Show alongside Charles. The royal couple arrived at the flower show on their estate in a carriage that once belonged to Queen Victoria. They were all smiles as they rode the route lined with members of the public and waved to them as they passed by. Looking well and relaxed in a smart suit alongside his wife, elegant in a black and white flower print dress, Charles looked delighted to be there again after being forced to miss last year's event due to his cancer treatment. The monarch attended the service without Queen Camilla, who was seen yesterday attending the annual King George Racing Weekend in Ascot without the King Many in the crowds commented on how delighted they were to see him back. The King asked one young winner about what she had won her cup for, telling her: 'I must say it's very impressive. And at least you've now had some rain.' During the event, Charles and Camilla also met with a number of guests and members of local gardening and horticultural cubs. 'But I told her this one bloody hurt. She just finds it hilarious. 'She pulled her police officer's sleeve and said 'look, it's catching on!' This week marks the last of the royal couple's official engagements before they head to Scotland for their summer break, as per their traditional royal holiday schedule. King Charles is expected to vacation at Balmoral Castle, which was his late mother Queen Elizabeth II's favourite royal residence and where she died in 2022. After a busy summer, the royal couple will be looking forward to a well-deserved rest before their next engagement in September and may prove to be a controversial one. This is because they will be playing host to US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. The president will be paying an official state visit to the UK from September 17 to 19, and will be staying at Windsor Castle. It will come around just over a month of Mr Trump ends his four-day private visit to Scotland, where he is currently staying at his Turnberry resort in South Ayshire. His presence in Scotland, a country he is fond of and owns several golf courses in, has been met by protests carried out by local residents and environmentalists.
