India attacked the Nur Khan and Shorkot airbases on the intervening night of May 6 and 7. Dar disclosed that the strikes took place while Pakistan was still getting ready to respond, suggesting that India moved first and took them by surprise.
Within 45 minutes of the strike, Saudi Prince Faisal offered to speak to the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on behalf of Pakistan's deputy PM, seeking to halt further action against Pakistan.

His confession stands in contrast to earlier statements by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior Pakistani officials, who had asserted that Pakistan had delivered a strong response to India.
Prime Minister Sharif himself had also recently acknowledged that India conducted BrahMos missile strikes on multiple locations, including the Rawalpindi airport.
Nur Khan airbase
Pakistan air force Base Nur Khan, situated in Chaklala, Rawalpindi is around 10km from Islamabad, Pakistan capital. It is an active airbase that encompasses the former Benazir Bhutto International Airport within its grounds.

The facility, originally established as RAF Station Chaklala and later known as PAF Base Chaklala, continues to serve as a vital military installation in Pakistan.
The base is also home to PAF College Chaklala, which trains Aviation Cadets, and Fazaia Inter College Nur Khan, providing additional educational facilities on the premises.
Imtiaz Gul, a defence analyst, claimed that the strategically important Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi is 'under American control.'
Rafiqui airbase
Pakistan air force base Rafiqui, situated near Shorkot in Jhang District, is a major military installation located 337 kilometers south of Islamabad. The base features a 10,000-foot runway with a parallel taxiway that serves as an emergency landing strip.
The airbase was previously known as PAF Base Shorkot before being renamed after Sarfaraz Ahmed Rafiqui, a fighter pilot from the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.

The base's infrastructure includes a primary runway and an emergency taxiway system that allows for aircraft recovery operations when needed.
Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was India's swift, calculated tri‑service cross-border assault on the dead night of May 6 and 7, targeting nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the brutal April 22 Pahalgam massacre that claimed 26 innocent lives.
Within 25 minutes, India's Army, Navy and Air Force deployed SCALP cruise missiles, HAMMER smart bombs, loitering munitions and ground-to-ground weaponry, killing around 70 to 100 militants and crippling key Lashkar‑e‑Taiba, JeM and Hizbul Mujahideen infrastructure at Bahalwalpur and Muridke in Pakistan.
Pahalgam's terrorists thought they were sending a message when they murdered husbands in front of their wives, after selecting victims by their religion. Via the name Operation Sindoor, the government sent an immeasurably bigger message back as India avenged the loss suffered by those women.
Sindoor, vermillion, is a symbol of marriage in Hindu custom. Pakistan's military-intelligence-jihadi complex would have been among the first to note the image put out by Indian Army right after government's confirmation of the strikes - Operation Sindoor in block letters, with the first 'O' represented by a bowl of vermillion.

Unfortunately, the BJP has created such an atmosphere in the country that all parties are asking why the government went for a ceasefire with Pakistan, she said. "That is, the war should have continued. Look at the mentality. What is happening in our country? Why did you do this? And this is the policy of the BJP, of that aggression. It has brought aggression among the people," she said. "Now all the parties in the opposition are compelled because if they do not say something like this they will be dubbed anti-national. Fulfilled vow to avenge Pahalgam attack with blessings of Mahadev: PM on Op Sindoor
PRIME MINISTER Narendra Modi, in Varanasi on Saturday, dedicated the success of Operation Sindoor to Lord Mahadev. On his first visit to Kashi since the operation, he said the 'mission succeeded only with Mahadev's blessings.' Referring to the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, the PM said the grief of the victims' families, especially their children, left him 'deeply moved.' Modi said he prayed to Baba Vishwanath for strength for the bereaved families and had vowed before the people of Kashi to avenge their pain — 'the sindoor of our daughters' — a vow he now considers fulfilled. The PM also hit out at the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) for their 'baseless statements' on Operation Sindoor, asserting that such actions would only strengthen the 'resolve of a united and self-reliant India.' He said Lord Shiva represents welfare, but assumes a fierce form when faced with terror and injustice. 'The world witnessed this fierce form of India during Operation Sindoor,' he said, warning that 'whoever attacks India will not survive — even in hell.' 'This is a new India — one that worships Bholenath, but turns into Kaal Bhairav when faced with the enemies of the nation,' said the PM. The PM also credited the success of Operation Sindoor to the 'unity of 140 crore Indians', terming this as the 'foundation of India's strength'. 'This unity sparks a new consciousness each time,' he said, asking the crowd if they weren't proud of India's might and the operation's success. He highlighted the precision strikes by Indian drones and missiles that reduced terror hideouts to rubble, adding that many of Pakistan's airbases 'are still in the ICU.' Modi launched a sharp attack on the Opposition, saying some in the country have a 'stomach ache' over the success of Operation Sindoor. 'The Congress and its allies can't digest that India destroyed Pakistan's terror bases. Pakistan's sorrow is understandable — but why are Congress and SP sharing their grief?' he asked. He added, 'On one side, the king of terror cries; on the other, Congress and SP weep over the condition of terrorists.' Accusing Congress of insulting the armed forces, he said the party is calling Operation Sindoor a 'tamasha'. 'Tell me—can sindoor ever be a tamasha? Calling our army's valour and our daughters' honour a spectacle is shameful and will not be tolerated,' he asserted. The PM took a sharp dig at the SP, accusing it of indulging in vote bank and appeasement politics. Referring to SP leaders' remarks in Parliament questioning the timing of action against the Pahalgam terrorists, he said, 'Should I call them and ask — should we kill terrorists or not? Should we wait to eliminate them?' He reminded the public that during the SP's rule in Uttar Pradesh, the party 'withdrew cases against those accused in bomb blasts and gave clean chits to terrorists.' 'They have a problem with the killing of terrorists and even with the name — Operation Sindoor,' he added.

While Jaitley's family and party reminded Rahul Gandhi that the union minister died in 2019 and the farm laws were passed in 2020, the big question now from critics is on the Congress leader: why always shoot and scoot? It's been a week in Parliament marked by many controversies surrounding Rahul Gandhi. It began with his speech on Operation Sindoor where he accused the government of informing Pakistan and calling off the exercise under Donald Trump's pressure. Then, it was his insistence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi call Trump 'a liar", knowing very well that, diplomatically, it's not a done thing. Then there was his relentless attack on the Election Commission, which responded by saying he makes baseless accusations and refuses to respond to the EC's invites. He then stoked another controversy by agreeing with Trump that India was a 'dead economy". In an embarrassment, his own party leaders, like Rajiv Shukla and Shashi Tharoor, contradicted him. While Rahul Gandhi has every right to oppose and question the government, this shoot-and-scoot approach could get challenged as the BJP and others won't let him off. His mention of Jaitley evoked memories of when Rahul Gandhi had gone to meet the ailing former and late defence minister Manohar Parrikar in 2019 in Goa and claimed they had discussed the Rafale deal. Parrikar wrote that it was hurtful that Rahul Gandhi claimed they discussed Rafale when they had not. But when the deal was fixed at 25%, this argument and prediction failed. The BJP hit out, saying Rahul Gandhi's lies had been busted, and the same Trump whom he would want to call a liar was the one he trusted, even on the 'dead economy" comment. When he questioned the EC on the Maharashtra and Haryana polls, he forgot that the same agency conducted elections in Karnataka and Haryana, where the Congress had won. So now he has decided to take part in a protest on August 5 in Karnataka to talk about 'EC irregularities" in the state's panchayat polls. In yet another embarrassment, his own party colleague Ashish Dua, who was co-in-charge for the Maharashtra polls, wrote in an article that they lost not because of the EC but because of a poor campaign and strategy. The Congress projects Rahul Gandhi as an honest, well-meaning politician. No doubt, some of his crusades have gained traction. His 'Samvidhan Khatre Mein Hai" campaign worked in the 2024 polls and shook the BJP. But while the BJP recovered and won polls, Rahul Gandhi seems to be moving from one gaffe to another. This week has shaken Rahul Gandhi's credibility. It certainly can be labelled as a week that wasn't for the LoP.
