Working out at THIS time can help lower blood sugar
Struggling to regulate blood sugar? Lifestyle changes, including exercise, may help. But timing is everything. While regular exercise is a good tool to keep glucose levels in check, new research suggests that when you work out could be just as important as how often you do it.
A new study conducted by Spanish researchers found that the time of the workout matters if you want to lower blood sugar. The new study is published in
Obesity
.
Timing matters
The news study suggests that exercising at a specific time of day may offer greater benefits for people looking to lower their blood sugar naturally. People with a risk for type 2 diabetes or those struggling with insulin resistance may benefit more from this method.
The researchers found that engaging in moderate to vigorous physical activity in the evening is good for lowering daily blood sugar levels, with the greatest benefits seen in adults who are overweight, obese, or lead sedentary lifestyles.
Though it was known that moderate to vigorous physical activity can enhance glucose homeostasis in adults with overweight and obesity who are at higher risk of developing insulin resistance, little was known about the optimal timing of moderate to vigorous physical activity to improve daily blood glucose control.
'Our results highlight the importance of the field of precision exercise prescription. In clinical practice, certified sports and medical personnel should consider the optimal timing of the day to enhance the effectiveness of the exercise and physical activity programs they prescribe,' Jonatan R.

Ruiz, PhD, professor of physical activity and health, Department of Physical and Sports Education, Faculty of Sport Sciences-Sport and Health University Research Institute (iMUDS), University of Granada, said in a statement.
The study
To understand the link between physical activity and its impact on blood sugar, the researchers observed 186 adults with an average age of 46 and a body mass index (BMI) of 32.9. The participant wore a device to monitor glucose patterns and physical activity for 14 days.
The researchers categorized daily physical activity based on the time of day when it occurred. Days were classified as 'inactive' if no moderate to vigorous physical activity was recorded.
Otherwise, activity was grouped into four time-based categories: morning (6 a.m. to noon), afternoon (noon to 6 p.m.), evening (6 p.m. to midnight), or mixed if no single time block accounted for more than 50% of the activity.
The findings
The study showed that performing more than half of daily moderate to vigorous physical activity in the evening was associated with the greatest reduction in blood glucose levels.
This effect was especially pronounced among participants with impaired glucose regulation.
'As the field moves towards individualized exercise prescriptions for different chronic conditions, this study now provides additional insights beyond just telling patients to 'move more,' but instead to move as often as possible and to prioritize afternoon-to-evening movement when feasible for glucose regulation,' Renee J. Rogers, PhD, FACSM, senior scientist, Division of Physical Activity and Weight Management, University of Kansas Medical Center, added.

Mysuru: Students from Excel Public School in Mysuru will participate in a live interaction with astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, who is currently stationed aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom Space AX-4 mission. The event, scheduled for 3.47pm on Friday, will take place through the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) initiative, in coordination with the UR Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Bengaluru. This prestigious opportunity allows students to establish direct communication with the ISS using amateur radio frequencies, representing a significant application of STEM education. Licensed student HAM operators from Excel Public School, including Bhuvan PM, Namasyu A, Tanish Tejaswi MS, Pranav CN, Vishruth R, and Sanat Raj G, will represent the school during the ISS interaction. They will be guided by their mentor and Amateur Radio club custodian, Mahesh MB. This interaction is part of a global network of scheduled ARISS school contacts that aim to introduce young learners to space science, communications technology, and orbital research. In a joint statement, the students said, "As licensed student HAM operators, we have spent months learning the science behind radio communication, tracking satellites, and assembling and testing antennas. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Descubre si tienes derecho a la instalación gratuita de la alarma que arrasa en Argentina Verisure Más información Undo Being able to apply all of that by connecting with the ISS is an experience we never imagined we'd have at this stage in our learning journey. Arunachal child rights body enrols 25 specially-abled kids for Aadhaar
Itanagar: A three-day Aadhaar registration camp, organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) specifically for Children with Special Needs (CWSNs), concluded on Thursday. A total of 25 CWSNs were successfully enrolled during the camp, with APSCPC chairperson Ratan Anya expressing gratitude to all stakeholders for their cooperation and successful execution of the initiative. The camp, organised in collaboration with the economics and statistics department of Papum Pare district, was held across multiple locations in the state, including Sacred Heart Convent & Day Care Centre, Toko Rehabilitation Centre in Naharlagun and the APSCPCR office at Papu Nallah. The camp had been designed to support CWSNs, registered in various special schools and therapy centres, in Itanagar and nearby areas. While marking the autism month in April, a total of 182 CWSNs were registered, of whom 112 were subsequently issued Person with Disability (PwD) certificates. Fourteen had received Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards. The UDID card is a crucial document for Persons with Disabilities in India, aiming to create a national database and streamline access to various government benefits, schemes and services.
