Melaka launches over 800 initiatives for WTD and WTC 2025
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the initiatives were designed to enhance connectivity, accessibility and cultural engagement.
'As we approach WTD 2025, we are proud to unveil even more special programmes, including exclusive promotional accommodation packages, RM10 admission tickets to selected key attractions and RM10 curated menus at participating restaurants.
'Other initiatives include premium golf promotions at four prestigious golf courses in Melaka, revival of traditional games like Dam Aji and Konda Kondi, especially for youth and family tourism, and employment of two additional Melaka River Cruise boats to enrich the river tourism experience.'
He said this in his speech during the pre-launch of WTD 2025, WTC 2025 and the 17th anniversary of Melaka's recognition as a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage City in Banda Hilir here tonight.
Present were Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Melaka State Assembly speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum, state secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad, as well as ambassadors and high commissioners based in Malaysia.
Ab Rauf said a key highlight of the celebration will be the Global Meet Session hosted at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia.
'We estimate the presence of over 3,000 delegates from 159 countries, along with 500 United Nations World Tourism Organisation private sector members, including global tourism leaders, policymakers and international media.
'In conjunction with this, we strongly support the Ministry of Tourism's initiative to invite all Malaysian states to showcase their tourism strengths at MITC. Let this be a national showcase of unity, diversity and shared prosperity through tourism,' he said. - Bernama

This initiative demonstrates Shell's commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial talent in Sabah through its development programme. Advertisement Crates Studio, Live2Learn Ideas, Nella Odella, Rafa F&B Enterprise and WAIG Consultancy Sdn Bhd were selected as the winners, upon competing with over 60 participants who took part in this year's Sabah edition of the programme. Their journey began with an intensive bootcamp aimed at sharpening entrepreneurial skills. From there, ten finalists were shortlisted to compete in the final pitching round, where they presented comprehensive business plans and showcased their commitment to innovation and growth. After a thorough evaluation, five enterprises that stood out were selected as this year's winners. The five victorious enterprises were awarded a startup fund of RM10,000 by Shell, while receiving a year of business coaching to refine their business plans and transform them into successful ventures. Additionally, the winners will gain access to the global LiveWire network, where they can share their insights with entrepreneurs worldwide, while standing a chance to participate in the annual Shell Global Top Ten Innovators Awards. 'What stands out most in our LiveWire programme is how our Sabahan entrepreneurs are using their skills and innovation to create real change towards strengthening their communities and opening up new pathways for employment and growth,' said Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Ltd General Manager Wong Kim Mun. 'LiveWire is more than just a business platform, it is a catalyst for community-driven progress, connecting entrepreneurs to a global network and empowering them to contribute meaningfully to the nation's socio-economic development,' he said. The judges for Shell LiveWire Malaysia 2025 Sabah state finals were Institut Keusahawanan Negara Chief Executive Officer Viviantie Sarjuni, Daily Express Senior Editor Leonard Alaza and Shell Mobility Malaysia Borneo District Manager Zainudin Sulaiman. Malaysia to host World Tourism Day 2025 in Melaka, boosting tourism
MELAKA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi highlighted the significance of Malaysia hosting World Tourism Day 2025 in Melaka, calling it a visionary move to position the country as a leader in global tourism. The event, scheduled for September 2025, will coincide with the World Tourism Conference 2025, reinforcing Melaka's status as a key cultural and heritage destination. Ahmad Zahid emphasised that the occasion presents an opportunity to inspire the world, showcasing Malaysia's readiness to lead in values-driven and meaningful travel. 'Let World Tourism Day in Melaka be the moment we inspire the world, showing that Malaysia is ready to lead, ready to welcome, and ready to shape the future of tourism,' he said. The announcement was made during the pre-launch event in Banda Hilir, which also marked the 17th anniversary of Melaka's recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage City. Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing delivered the speech on behalf of Ahmad Zahid. Melaka's tourism sector has already demonstrated strong performance, welcoming 15 million visitors in 2023 under the Visit Melaka Year 2024 campaign, generating RM12.68 billion in revenue. Ahmad Zahid stressed that Visit Malaysia 2026 will further elevate the industry, making tourism a key driver of sustainability and inclusivity. Strategic collaborations with international partners are already underway. Ahmad Zahid noted recent discussions in London with trade leaders and airline representatives to boost UK tourist arrivals from 390,000 to 500,000. Last year, UK travellers contributed over RM2.5 billion, with potential to exceed RM3.3 billion with targeted efforts. Malaysia's reputation as a Muslim-friendly destination remains strong, ranking fifth globally and consistently performing well in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator. China's Xinjiang is more dynamic, attractive amid increasing openness

The 2025 (China) Eurasia Commodity and Trade Expo recently concluded in Urumqi, the regional capital. The five-day fair was one of the latest examples of Xinjiang's increasingly open and dynamic development, attended by 1,800 exhibitors from 50 countries and regions, including first-time exhibitors from four countries in Africa: Ethiopia, Zambia, Comoros and Senegal. A vast region that borders Central Asian countries, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has enhanced its connectivity with the world significantly in recent years, boosting mutually beneficial cooperation and people-to-people exchange, driven by the BRI. In addition to the dozens of freight trains that enter and exit Xinjiang on average each day, the region's air transport is expanding rapidly. In the first half of this year, seven new international charter cargo flight routes were opened between Urumqi and foreign cities such as Istanbul, Belgrade and Addis Ababa, raising the region's total number of international air freight routes to 26, according to Xinjiang Airport Group. In the first five months of this year, the number of air routes the company operates increased by 115, or 26.5 per cent year on year. These industries play a vital role in sustaining the region's high-quality growth and creating jobs. Its broader opening-up can also be seen through the rapid increase in the number of enterprises in the Xinjiang Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ), which was inaugurated in November 2023. Pilot FTZs are a landmark feature of China's high-standard opening-up. As of May this year, more than 15,000 enterprises have been established in the pilot FTZ, and there are now 1.5 times more foreign-invested enterprises than there were when the FTZ opened for business, according to statistics from the regional department of commerce. The Xinjiang pilot FTZ is now home to more than 40,000 enterprises. Despite global uncertainties and false accusations launched against the region, Xinjiang's foreign trade has maintained rapid growth in recent years, reaping 22.9 per cent year-on-year growth in the first five months of 2025. Xinjiang's attractiveness has also been strengthened through a number of international events held in the region in such fields as sports and the arts. Event participants, businesspeople and tourists traveling to Xinjiang find themselves deeply impressed by the beauty of its landscape, the diversity of its culture, the hospitality of its locals, and its remarkable development. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
