The Turtles will bring '60s pop back to the State Fair Grandstand this summer

Yahoo25-02-2025
The Turtles are bringing their catchy '60s pop back to the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand for the third straight year as part of its Happy Together 2025 tour.
On Aug. 25, the "She'd Rather Be With Me" group returns to the fairgrounds with Jay and the Americans, The Vogues, and the Cowsills, all of whom joined them last year.
This year, they'll bring along a pair of acts that weren't part of last year's throwback show. Little Anthony and Gary Puckett & the Union Gap will also be on the bill. Though, both groups performed as part of The Turtles' Happy Together Tour in 2023 when it came to the Grandstand.
It's a six-band lineup that combines for 55 Billboard Top-40 hits across their decades of performing.
In total, this will be the 10th time The Turtles have been part of a Grandstand lineup. They first appeared on the stage in 1998 and then went on a six-year run starting in 2011.
After a short break, they've again become a staple, with the 2025 performance marking their third straight year of bringing California pop to the state in late August.
Tickets for what's dubbed the Happy Together Tour 2025 go on sale Friday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m., with standard reserved seating tickets starting at $33. Party Deck tickets start at $66.
It's the fourth show announced for the 2025 Grandstand, following announcements for Old Dominion (Aug. 21), Melissa Etheridge and Indigo Girls (Aug. 24), and Def Leppard (Aug. 26).

Samuel L. Jackson touts wind farms after White House weighs move against them

Samuel L. Jackson is defending wind farms in a video released a day after the Trump administration said it was considering additional hurdles for wind energy development. 'Motherf—ing wind farms: Loud, ugly, harmful to nature. Who says that?' Jackson said as he shook his head in a video released Wednesday by the European energy company Vattenfall. 'These giants are standing tall against fossil fuels, rising up out of the ocean like a middle finger to CO2,' the 'Pulp Fiction' star said of windmills. 'Deep beneath the waves they can become artificial reefs, creating habitats for sea life to grow,' the 76-year-old actor said. A day earlier the Trump administration said it would undertake a review to consider 'whether to stop onshore wind development on some federal lands and halting future offshore wind lease sales.' 'These policy changes represent a commonsense approach to energy that puts Americans' interests first,' Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said in a statement. President Trump has repeatedly denounced wind energy over the years. 'We're not going to let windmills get built because we're not going to destroy our country any further than it's already been destroyed,' Trump said last month. 'You go and look at these beautiful plains and valleys, and they're loaded up with this garbage that gets worse and worse looking with time,' the president said. Jackson has spoken out against Trump before, saying in a 2019 interview that the commander in chief was 'ruining the planet.' 'If you're not saying anything, then you're complicit,' the performer said at the time.

Trump White House Says ‘Moronic' Sydney Sweeney Criticism Shows Why He Won: Voters Are ‘Tired of This Bulls—t'

"Cancel culture run amok," President Donald Trump's communications manager Steven Cheung shares The White House thinks the Left's reaction to the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle jeans ad is 'moronic,' as well as further proof as to why President Trump won the election. Trump's communications manager Steven Cheung called out the ongoing outrage surrounding the new campaign showing Sweeney touting herself for having great jeans – a play on the actress' genes. Cheung posted on X that voters were 'tired of this bulls–t' after some online called the ad tone-deaf, saying it celebrates Sweeney's whiteness and thinness. 'This warped, moronic and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024. They're tired of this bulls–t.' Many viral comments deriding the ad bring up arguments suggesting that it's not only supposedly promoting white supremacy, but also eugenics, nazism and master race propaganda. 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color,' Sweeney says in the ad. 'My jeans are blue.' Cheung is far from the only member of the Right to slam the reaction to the ad campaign. Megyn Kelly torched the 'lunatic left' on her podcast earlier this week for the online reaction. 'She's being called a white supremacist by people who don't like her latest ad, which is for American Eagle,' Kelly said. 'She's advertising jeans, and yet the lunatics on the Left think she's advertising white supremacy. This is obviously a reference to her body and not to her skin color, but the lunatic left is going to do what the lunatic left is going to do.' She continued: 'They're upset because it's about who gets to be the face of America's Best Genes. They think it's no accident that they've chosen a white, thin woman because you're, I guess, not allowed to celebrate those things in any way, shape, or form. But they're completely ignoring the reference to her body, which is the thing she's famous for. It's just absurd.' Watch the full Fox News clip on Cheung's reaction above. Katy Perry superfan from Alberta basks in newfound fame, puts Medicine Hat on the map

A Katy Perry superfan is basking in newfound fame after a video of him meeting the pop star garnered nearly a million views online. Perry, who is in Canada performing several shows on her Lifetimes Tour, invited concertgoer Braiden Palumbo on stage during a stop in Vancouver. Palumbo travelled all the way from Redcliff, Alta., to attend the show. Now, his neighbours are recognizing him from the cute interaction, which somewhat schooled Perry on small-town Prairie life. 'People come into the gas bar all the time and they don't even buy anything, they just want to take a picture with me,' he said on Tuesday. 'Growing up in a small town, only the people in the small town know who you are.' In the video, Palumbo tells Perry he is from Medicine Hat, which is a small city in southeastern Alberta that's very close to his hometown. The animated pop star looks bewildered and plays to the cheering crowd, saying she needs 'to study better geography.' 'Your hats are filled with medicine? Well you know for us Americans you are our medicine hats, we love it,' she says jokingly. From there, Perry was in for another lesson when the 20-year-old reveals he works at a Co-op gas bar. 'I'm sorry but you guys are way advanced, what is a Co-op gas bar?' she asks. When the fan explains it is just a gas station, Perry goes on to say 'it sounds really fancy.' Perry, who also made news this week after dining out with former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sparking romance rumours, is known for interacting with fans during her extravagant performances. Palumbo said he is grateful to have had that shared moment with Perry, and to put a small town on the map. 'I am a huge Katy Perry fan for as long as I can remember,' Palumbo said. When Perry began calling people on stage, Palumbo didn't think he would be one of them. That was, until she started walking towards audience members who were further back in the section he was in. 'I knew that that was my moment to shine,' he recalls. He said all he could think of doing to get her attention was raise his arms and scream will full force. 'I was just screaming, 'Pick me, Pick me!' You need to notice me,' he recalls. The video was originally shared by @ on TikTok and has garnered over 750,000 views since being posted four days ago, leaving fans desperately questioning if Perry will visit Medicine Hat in future tours. Palumbo has also since changed his profile picture on Instagram to a selfie of him with Perry. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 30, 2025.
