Hayato Inamura to Celtic transfer on the brink as timeline for 'expected' Albirex Niigata arrival revealed
The Japanese youngster is reportedly on Brendan Rodgers' radar
Albirex Niigata defender Hayato Inamura will complete a move to Celtic next week, according to a report.
The left-sided centre back only joined Albi last summer and has made 15 league appearances in Japan's top tier, with his side currently in the midst of a relegation battle.
While more midfield players are high on Brendan Rodgers ' wish list following the capture of Benjamin Nygren, Inamura, 23, is said to be a summer transfer target for the Hoops and reports in Japan claim that a deal is almost done.
Sponichi state that Inamura will play his final game for his current club against Machida Zelvia on Sunday before jetting off to Europe to undergo a medical and put pen to paper at Parkhead.
The left-sided defender stands at 6ft tall and is a renowned set piece specialist. Should he make the switch to Glasgow's East End then he will become the ninth Japanese export to pull on the famous green and white.
Curren Celtic stars Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate have become fan's favourites since their respective arrivals in 2022 and both have been linked with big money moves elsewhere this summer.
Compatriot Kyogo Furuhashi enjoyed three and a half productive seasons with the club before joining Rennes in a £10million deal last January.
Tomoki Iwata left the club last summer to join Birmingham while Yosuke Ideguchi and Yuki Kobayashi were also moved on after failing to make an impact.
Winger Koki Mizuno made 12 appearances for the Hoops between 2008 and 2010 and he was preceded by arguably the most celebrated Japanese player at Parkhead - Shunsuke Nakamura.
After arriving from Italian side Reggina in 2005, the former midfield maestro went onto net 34 times in 166 appearances, including two memorable free-kicks in the Champions League against Manchester United.

Wimbledon star banned son from speaking to Carlos Alcaraz leaving him upset
Carlos Alcaraz has become one of the most popular players in the world, but one tennis star does not care about that and has banned his son from speaking to him Fabio Fognini has jokingly admitted to upsetting his own son by forbidding him from speaking to Wimbledon opponent Carlos Alcaraz. The fiery Italian was drawn to face the Spaniard in the opening match on Centre Court. Fognini's eldest son, Federico, was so excited about the prospect of his father facing the defending Wimbledon champion that he phoned the current World No. 138 immediately. Young Federico is a huge fan of Alcaraz and his Italian compatriot Jannik Sinner. But upon reaching SW19, Fognini barred his son from chatting with Alcaraz, who has two Wimbledon titles to his name. Fognini admitted Federico was rather disappointed and 'angry' with his father's order, when he told AS: "Obviously, with these guys, there's little to think about. "Two days ago, when the draw came out, my son called me and said, 'Dad, see, you're playing against Carlitos.' And I said, 'Yes, do you want to come?' "[He said] 'Yes, yes, yes, I'm coming, I'm coming.' And [my wife] Flavia, also with the little girl, is coming to watch the game. "Now, when [my eldest son] saw him, I told him, 'Don't say hello to him, because he's my opponent tomorrow,' and he got angry." Before the Italian Open in spring, Fognini hinted that this Wimbledon campaign could be his last as a player. The former World No. 7 has enjoyed many battles against the likes of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray throughout his career. With his vast experience, Fognini knows a thing or two about what makes a champion. Looking back on his experience, he believes Alcaraz and Sinner can reach the same dizzying heights as the so-called 'Big Four.' He added: "Honestly, I'm happy, because with everything I've done, playing against Carlitos here is worth it. "Right now, he's the most in-form player on tour. He won last time. It couldn't have been better. Obviously, in terms of tennis and winning matches, I would have liked to play him a little later, but that's the way it is. "Exactly, that's how I see it. I know him well, even though he's quite young. What he's achieving, alongside Jannik, is like seeing a little bit of my era, that of Rafa and Roger with Nole. "So at this point, it's a nice reward. I hope I enjoy it as much as I can and play a good match - that's the most important thing."

Callum Osmand reveals Celtic hero sold transfer move as striker tells fans exactly what to expect
The striker has made the move to Parkhead from EPL outfit Fulham on a four-year deal Callum Osmand has revealed Matt O'Riley's secret agent role in his move to Celtic. The striker arrived at the Scottish champions on a four-year deal after swapping English Premier League outfit Fulham for a crack at Champions League football at Parkhead. Brendan Rodgers has made him signing number four of the window having already brought back Kieran Tierney on a pre-contract from Arsenal, Ross Doohan to beef up his options between the sticks after allowing Scott Bain to move on and Swede Benjamin Nygren. Osmand revealed new boss Rodgers has set out a clear pathway for him in Glasgow's east end and it is a journey he can't wait to get started on. But it was former Celtic star O'Riley - now back in England with Brighton - dished out advice to the 19-year-old while also giving both the club and fans big licks. Osmand told Celtic TV: 'Osmand is the latest in a line of Fulham academy men to pull on the hoops. He follows in the footsteps of a trio of fans' favourites in the shape of Moussa Dembele, Patrick Roberts and O'Riley. He said: "Fulham has a brilliant academy set up. The coaches are top as well. It's a credit to them really how they bring up players to get them ready for senior football. "Obviously, there has been notable names. Moussa, Matt. I've also spoken to Matt [O'Riley] on the phone, so he has given me advice. "He was telling me about how big the club is, how amazing the fans are and it's a new life really. So excited is definitely the word for me. "It feels unbelievable to be here and I am so happy to be here. It is a big step for me, and I am excited to get going. "It's a massive move and I can't wait to step out at Celtic Park in front of all the fans. Really excited to get going. 'When I spoke to the manager, he was really positive. The plan and pathway he has set out for the club is top, so it's exciting with the pathway he has for me. 'He has set out what he wants from me, and it is all really positive, so I can't wait to get going now." Offering the Celtic fans an insight to his playing style, he continued: "I am more of a quick striker. Not your classic like massive hold up sort of player. I am more mobile and I like to bring excitement to the team. Runs in behind and work rate. "You can do all the talking here but if you can't do it on the pitch it doesn't mean anything. So I just can't wait to get out there and have the boots on and play" Boss Rodgers added: 'We are really pleased to bring Callum to Celtic. He is a highly-rated, talented young player. 'He has some real attributes. He's a quick and powerful striker and I'm really looking forward to working with him. I'm sure he can be really successful with us.'

Jonny Evans announces retirement and takes up new Manchester United role
The 37-year-old, who won the Champions League, three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups during his two stints at Old Trafford, has been appointed head of loans and pathways. Evans' role will see him work closely with director of football Jason Wilcox and the director of academy to ease developing talent into the first team. 🔴 Jonny Evans has been appointed as our Head of Loans and Pathways, confirming the end of his illustrious playing career 🤝 — Manchester United (@ManUtd) June 30, 2025 He told the club's official website: 'I want to officially announce my retirement from my playing career, not with sadness, but with pride, gratitude and excitement for the next chapter ahead. 'I'll be forever indebted to the managers, coaches, staff and, of course, my team-mates, that I have had the privilege of working alongside throughout my 20 years in professional football. 'My biggest and most heartfelt thanks must go to the fans who have supported me during every step of the journey. It's been an honour to be on the pitch and feel your passion home and away; I will be eternally grateful for every ounce of support. 'I am looking forward to working with the next generation of talented players to support them to reach their potential. Having had experience of loans myself, I know the crucial role that they can play within a player's development. Jonny Evans won the Champions League, three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups during his time with Manchester United (Nick Potts/PA) 'I am excited to help further develop the pathway to our first team and continue the legacy of young players thriving at Manchester United.' Evans, who won 107 caps for Northern Ireland and was awarded an MBE for his services to football in 2023, emerged from United's academy to make 241 senior appearances for the club. He also had stints at West Brom and Leicester, with whom he tasted FA Cup success for the second time in 2021, and significantly had two loan spells at Sunderland under former Red Devils skipper Roy Keane early in a career which amounted to 536 games. His playing days effectively came to an end as last season drew to a close and, while he is close to completing his UEFA A licence, he insisted earlier this summer that he was in no rush to make a decision over his future. However now his contract at Old Trafford has formally expired, he is ready to launch the latest phase of his illustrious career. Welcoming Evans' appointment, Wilcox said: 'Having just finished his exceptional playing career, Jonny is the perfect role model for our young players. 'Jonny's knowledge of what it takes to succeed at Manchester United will be of great benefit to each of them as we continue to develop world-class talent capable of performing in our first team.'
