Texans sign TE Dalton Keene
Tight end Dalton Keene is back in Houston. The Texans announced Keene's signing on Tuesday afternoon. They waived wide receiver Jared Wayne in a corresponding move. Keene spent time with the Texans in the last two seasons and he appeared in one game for the team during the 2023 season. He tore his ACL last summer and missed the entire regular season. Keene was a 2020 third-round pick by New England, but also dealt with knee injuries during his time with the Patriots. He caught three passes in six appearances with the AFC East team. Dalton Schultz, Cade Stover, Irv Smith, Brevin Jordan, and seventh-round pick Luke Lachey are the other Texans tight ends.

Astros reportedly bring back fan-favorite slugger on minor league deal
Astros reportedly bring back fan-favorite slugger on minor league deal originally appeared on The Sporting News The Houston Astros reacquired Carlos Correa at the trade deadline, and a few days afterwards, they're reuniting with a former fan favorite slugger, whom they released before the trade deadline. According to Michael Schwab, Astros writer and The Ice Box Insider, the Astros are bringing back Jon Singleton on a minor league deal. He's set to join the Space Cowboys in Salt Lake City and is back in the Astros system. Over a week ago, he was designated for assignment by the Astros, which was announced by his wife on Twitter/X. But, he wasn't a free agent for long, as the Astros are bringing the fan favorite slugger back on a minor league deal. The 33-year-old didn't contribute much in his nine at-bats for the Astros, as he notched just one hit and struck out once during his very brief stint at the end of July earlier this season. MORE: Astros agree to blockbuster trade with Twins for Carlos Correa But, a year ago in 2024, Singleton was a solid contributor for the Astros. In 119 games, he had 83 hits, 46 runs scored, 13 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs, 42 RBIs, 47 walks, and 111 strikeouts. His .234 batting average, .321 on-base percentage, and .386 slugging percentage were all career highs, and his .707 OPS was the only time he was at a .700 OPS or better in his big league career. Singleton was an above-average hitter for the Astros in 2024, and while he didn't get much of a chance this season, he's a solid depth addition to have in the organization. The left-handed slugger might not see the Majors for a while, if at all this season. But if the Astros do have a hole in the lineup, Singleton will be waiting in the minor leagues, ready to be called up and contribute for the Astros once again. Detroit Lions UDFA taking first-team reps at training camp
Detroit Lions UDFA taking first-team reps at training camp originally appeared on The Sporting News The Detroit Lions are continuing training camp as they prepare for their second preseason game versus the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, and one undrafted free agent is standing out. According to Tim Twentyman of undrafted free agent defensive lineman Keith Cooper Jr. has had an impressive camp and has a legitimate shot of making the 53-man roster. Cooper has been taking first-teams reps at practice and has the versatility to play multiple positions on the defensive line. "Keep an eye on rookie defensive lineman Keith Cooper Jr. out of Houston," Twentyman wrote. "He's gone from tryout player to getting some first-team reps along Detroit's defensive front." "He's lined up at just about every position along the defensive line during camp and has made his fair share of plays. Detroit loves versatile players and Cooper's versatility could ultimately land him a job on the on the initial 53-man roster out of camp." Cooper played three seasons at Tulane from 2021 to 2023 before transferring to Houston for his senior season in 2024. In his four-year college career, Cooper tallied 14 sacks and played multiple positions, including defensive tackle, outside linebacker, and edge rusher. During the Lions' Hall of Fame game loss to the Los Angeles Chargers last Thursday, Cooper posted two tackles and two defensive stops in 38 defensive snaps. Due to his versatility and size at 6-foot-5 and nearly 300 pounds, Cooper has a solid chance of making Detroit's roster and earning some playing time on special teams. The 22-year-old could also eventually find his way into the defensive line rotation, as the unit could use extra depth.
