Garbage-free Bandar is goal: Minister Ravindra
Machilipatnam: Minister for Mines, Geology, and Excise Kollu Ravindra on Thursday stated that his goal is to realise a 'garbage-free Bandar.' He made these remarks at the inauguration of garbage compacting vehicles at the Machilipatnam dumping yard, where he was joined by RTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao and DCMS Chairman Bandi Ramakrishna.
Minister Ravindra announced that the work to clear the dumping yard is on track, fulfilling a promise made by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
'The Chief Minister gave us a promise on October 2 and by this coming October 2, we will remove the dumping yard entirely,' he asserted. He added that plans are being drafted to create wealth from waste.
Recalling Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's previous visit to Bandar, where he personally observed the garbage and dumping yard issues, Minister Ravindra highlighted the Chief Minister's commitment to resolving the problem. As part of this commitment, Taruni Associates has been entrusted with solid waste management responsibilities at a cost of Rs 3.75 crore. This initiative will involve segregating wet and dry waste, along with the separation of materials like iron.
The Chief Minister has instructed that the entire dumping yard area be converted into a park by October 2. 'We will meticulously follow his directives and establish a park in that area. Local officials are urged to cooperate in this endeavour,' Minister Ravindra stated.
Machilipatnam generates approximately 80-90 tonnes of waste daily.
To manage this, three compactors worth Rs 3.30 crore have been procured and will be used to clear all accumulated waste. The Minister also mentioned that steps are being taken to establish a waste-to-energy plant locally. He criticised the previous administration for neglecting the municipality, which he claimed led to the current challenges.

EOW intensifies probe into ‘Salar Jung family's Rs 150-crore land gift to Sena MP's driver'
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar city police has intensified its probe into a complaint by a lawyer in Parbhani alleging that the driver of a Shiv Sena MP was illegally gifted a three-acre land worth nearly Rs 150 crore, a prime property in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, by Hyderabad's Salar Jung family. The complaint was filed by lawyer Mujahid Khan, who alleged fraud in the gift deed effecting transfer of the three acres from the Salar Jung family to Javed Shaikh, driver of Shiv Sena MP Sandipan Bhumre, whose son Vikas Bhumre is an MLA. Speaking to The Indian Express, the investigation officer of the case and EOW inspector Sambhaji Pawar said the EOW received the complaint around two months back and since then an inquiry has been going on into the matter, and that recently the inquiry has been expedited. As per the complaint filed with the EOW, the three-acre land in question is in the Dawoodpura area on Jalna Road in Aurangabad and is part of a 12-acre land belonging to the Salar Jung family. Shaikh has claimed he knows the Salar Jung family well. The lawyer, however, has questioned as to why would the Salar Jung family give such a high-value land to a driver. Khan also claimed that for the same land, the Salar Jung family fought a long legal battle with the revenue department and claimed it in 2023. 'We are checking the legality of the land transfer gift deed. We have already recorded some statements and have summoned other people concerned, including the kin of the Salar family,' Pawar said. 'We have summoned Shaikh in the past. He told us he would come with some documents but did not turn up again. We again served him summons recently. Similarly, kin of the Salar Jung family have also been asked to remain present for the inquiry with relevant documents,' Pawar added. The police have so far not registered any FIR in the case and are checking if a cognisable offence was committed. When asked if the police have recorded the statements of Vikas Bhumre and his father Sandipan Bhumre, the investigation officer said the inquiry is at a preliminary stage and for now they have not been found connected to the alleged irregularities; hence, they have not been summoned yet. Vikas Bhumre reportedly denied any link of his family with their driver Shaikh's land gift deed.

Ragging & death of Sidharthan: Govt moves Kerala HC against NHRC's order for compensation
Kochi: The state govt has filed a petition in high court challenging the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) order which directed it to pay a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the parents of J S Sidharthan, a second-year BVSc student at the Pookode campus of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, who allegedly died by suicide following brutal ragging. The NHRC had issued the direction on Oct 1, 2024, based on a petition filed by Sandeep Vachaspathi, spokesperson of the BJP in Kerala. In his petition, Vachaspathi requested an investigation into the incident and action against the students involved, as well as against the dean of the college. Sidharthan was found hanging in the bathroom of the college hostel on Feb 18, 2024. Nineteen students were arrested in connection with the incident, and the investigation was later handed over to CBI. The CBI chargesheet revealed that Sidharthan had been stripped, assaulted and subjected to a public trial in the men's hostel courtyard. He was allegedly harassed continuously for two days before his death. The NHRC had forwarded the complaint to the Wayanad district collector for appropriate action. On May 10, 2024, the commission issued a show cause notice to the chief secretary, asking why compensation of Rs 7 lakh should not be recommended to the victim's parents. Although the state filed a reply, the NHRC found that the suicide occurred within the hostel premises and concluded that there was negligence on the part of the hostel authorities. Consequently, it directed the govt to pay compensation, prompting the state to move HC. The govt contended that the order issued by the NHRC lacks statutory authority and that the proceedings are illegal.

Gogoi writes to PM Modi demanding inquiry into beneficiaries of dairy project in Assam

He also criticised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma 's role in it through "open endorsement of political favouritism" and attempting to justify the selection of such connected people as beneficiaries. Gogoi also mentioned the Gorukhuti agricultural project , funded through public money and intended for community benefit, which has also come under scrutiny. Referring to the procurement of Gir cows for the project and allotment of several of these high-yield cattle to private parties, the Congress leader said, "Official records indicate that these were allocated to several elected representatives, including the firm owned by the wife of Jayanta Malla Baruah (cabinet minister and Nalbari MLA), Bhupen Pegu (Jonai MLA), Utpal Borah (Gohpur MLA), Diganta Kalita (Kamalpur MLA), and Dilip Saikia (MP)." "If politically connected individuals are allowed to siphon off benefits meant for the poor, we risk alienating the very people these schemes are meant to uplift," he said, urging the PM to initiate an inquiry. The state Congress president had earlier raised the matter on X and alleged that Rs 50 lakh of taxpayers' money was handed to a minister for his private dairy farm. He had hit out at the chief minister's response to the allegation by stating, "What will they do after losing power?" Gogoi had claimed that it was not the first time those close to the BJP-led government have reaped "outsized benefits". "This is not governance, but rather a betrayal of the oath of office. Public money is misused to secure private futures, and power is treated as entitlement, not responsibility," he added, pointing out that these schemes were meant for the common people.
