The site of the encounter is a difficult and treacherous terrain, said the official. "We will neutralise them soon," he added.
The TSPC group consisted of five ultras who belong to the dreaded TSPC rebel Shashikant and Gautam's squad, said the ASP.
Following the encounter, the police recovered three cell phones, a power bank, a dongle, one magazine of SLR, and some bullets. "We are yet to count the exact number of bullets left behind by the ultras," said the ASP.

Agra: A court in Agra on Friday awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a 27-year-old man for the sexual assault of a 7-year-old boy after kidnapping him in 2021. The 7-year-old's testimony played a key role after the accused claimed he was being implicated in a false case by the child's father. Special prosecuting officer Satendra Pratap Gautam said the crime took place on Oct 13 that year, when the boy was returning home from a religious event in his neighbourhood. "The accused, a daily-wager, kidnapped the boy and violated him at home. He also threatened to kill him if he spoke to anyone. The family later came to know that the child was last seen with the man. The traumatised boy was rescued from the man's house. He was found without clothes," Gautam added. An FIR was registered under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation) along with the Pocso Act following a complaint by the child's father in Agra, and the accused was subsequently arrested. While announcing the quantum of punishment, the convict, in his defence, said "he was young -- in his 20s -- with no prior criminal record". However, the judge rejected his plea and sentenced him to 20 years of RI along with a fine of Rs 35,000. The court added that if the convict fails to pay the amount, he will have to spend three more years in jail. Half of the amount must go to rehabilitate the boy, the court stated.

Delhi: Serial killer who robbed, killed 4 cab drivers arrested — after 25 years
A serial killer who robbed and killed four cab drivers around 1999-2001 across several states has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police — after 25 years. 'The accused, Ajay Lamba alias Bansi, was declared a proclaimed offender; he had been absconding for the last 25 years. He was wanted in connection with a murder case registered at New Ashok Nagar police station in 2001,' said DCP (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam. After extensive manual and technical surveillance, a dedicated team led by Inspectors Rakesh Kumar and Anuj Kumar arrested the accused from Delhi, the DCP added. The accused was involved in four brutal robbery-cum-murder cases targeting cab drivers across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand in 2001. Police said he would hire taxis along with his accomplices, murder the drivers, rob the vehicles, and dispose of the bodies in remote mountainous regions to avoid detection. Gautam said Lamba was originally a resident of Krishna Nagar in Delhi. Born in 1976, he dropped out of school after Class VI and became involved in criminal activities in his early teens. Later, police said, he was declared a 'bad character' from Vikaspuri under the alias 'Banshi'. He later changed his name to Ajay Lamba in 1996 and moved to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. There, in collaboration with two other men — Dhirendra and Dilip Negi — police said he operated a violent scheme where taxis were hired, drivers murdered, vehicles were looted, and resold in Nepal. Lamba was wanted in the four cases registered between 1999 and 2001 across Delhi, Haldwani, Almora, and Champawat. He was never arrested in these cases and declared a proclaimed offender in all. He also has a string of earlier cases dating back to 1990, ranging from theft to illegal possession of arms. 'He lived in Nepal for about 10 years from 2008 to 2018 and then shifted to Dehradun with his family. In 2020, he allegedly became involved in the ganja supply chain from Odisha to other parts of India, including Delhi. He was recently arrested in a case registered under the NDPS Act in 2021 at Sagarpur police station, Delhi, and then again in a jewellery shop dacoity case in Behrampur, Orissa in 2024.
