Delhi: Dummy candidate, three aides held in Greater Kailash for links to govt job scam
Sumit Dahiya (29) was arrested for impersonating a candidate in an exam conducted by CBSE for recruiting staff of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti at an examination centre in a private school in Hemkunt Colony, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) Ankit Chauhan.
Dahiya, who is preparing for competitive exams, disclosed during interrogation that a middleman had orchestrated the impersonation plan and promised to pay him Rs 6 lakh for appearing as a dummy candidate in place of the original candidate Ankur, the police said.
DCP Chauhan said the original Aadhar card of Ankur, his admit card and the original OMR sheet in which the accused Dahiya had answered the questions were seized.
'Efforts are being made to nab Ankur and the middleman,' said the DCP, adding the impersonation bid was foiled on May 18.
The other accused include a woman (name withheld), Baljeet Singh (59) and Bimal Kumar Singh (59), the police said.
The police have booked them under penal provisions related to punishment for cheating by personation, cheating, dishonestly inducing delivery of property and criminal conspiracy.
The arrested woman is a resident of Majra, Kanjhwala, Delhi, and is aged 40, the police said.
She used to get the National Open School form filled for the Class 10 and 12 students and liaison with the school staff. She got an offer for Rs 2 lakh from Dahiya (known to her) for facilitating his entry as a dummy candidate in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti examination, the police said.
Accordingly, she contacted Bimal Kumar Singh, a private school teacher where the exam was to be held and a resident of Savitri Nagar, and Baljeet Singh, office superintendent and resident of Garhi in East of Kailash, and struck the deal.
Each of them was paid Rs 50,000 to ensure Dahiya's unhindered entry into the school for impersonation during the examination, the police said.

Delhi Police arrests businessmans cook from Odisha for stealing money
Balasore, Jul 28 (PTI) Delhi Police arrested a man from Odisha's Balasore district who, along with his two associates, had stolen over Rs 1 crore from the house of a businessman in the national capital, an officer said on Monday. Delhi Police, with the help of Odisha Police, arrested Kashinath Mallick (30) from Bhimei Gaon under Iswarpur police outpost in Nilagiri area of Balasore district on Sunday and recovered Rs 20 lakh, the officer said. Mallick used to work as a cook in the house of the businessman. His two other associates used to work as domestic help, and separately, they had stolen Rs 1.10 crore from the businessman's house and had fled Delhi recently. While Mallick was arrested from his house in Balasore district, the other two, identified as Ashutosh Mallick (27) and Jagabandhu Mallick (30), were arrested from Delhi railway station and Patna Bus stand, respectively. Woman sub-inspector, 2 other cops among 5 arrested for taking Rs 20 lakh bribe in Delhi
The Delhi Police Sunday arrested a woman sub-inspector, two of her subordinates, and two civilians for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from a complainant, an officer said. According to the police, Sub-Inspector Neetu Bhist, posted at Paschim Vihar East police station, was caught red-handed on the station's premises after the Outer District police laid a trap on the request of the complainant. The two other police personnel arrested include a head constable and a constable. A senior police officer said the process to suspend the accused officers will be initiated as soon as the preliminary inquiry is complete. Officers said the complainant, who runs an educational consulting firm, told them that he was in his office on Saturday when a police officer from Paschim Vihar East station arrived and accused him of running his business illegally. The complainant was then forced to board an SUV and taken to a police booth in Peera Garhi. The complainant alleged that the police personnel asked him for Rs 50 lakh, and the sub-inspector called him and threatened dire consequences if he lodged a complaint. Officers added that the two civilians arrested were known to the complainant, and they had forced him to sign two cheques to 'settle' the matter with the police. After negotiations, the complainant allegedly agreed to pay Rs 20 lakh as the first instalment. Investigators are now probing the role of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Paschim Vihar East police station in the incident as one of accused civilians, Ajay Kashyap, is often seen frequenting the station. In June this year, the Vigilance Department of the Delhi Police caught a head constable taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 at Burari police station. The accused subsequently suffered chest pain and was rushed to a hospital nearby. In the first seven months of 2025 alone, the Delhi Police have arrested at least 10 of its officers for taking bribes. This includes officers of inspector and sub-inspector ranks, public records show.
