Former captain Brendan Taylor to make emotional return to Zimbabwe cricket after 3 ½-year ban
Taylor has been named in Zimbabwe's 16-member squad for the second test against New Zealand, starting in Bulawayo on Aug. 7.
'I certainly did think it was all done, but here I am - and it's an overwhelming feeling of gratitude,' Taylor said in a statement issued by Zimbabwe Cricket on Wednesday. 'I have to pinch myself a little to realise that I'm actually here. I've been soaking it all up and embracing every moment. It's just been a really nice integration.
'The last year and a half has certainly been dedicated to my return. I've put in an immense amount of work - from fitness to the technical side to diet - and I'm feeling a lot leaner, fitter and mentally stronger. That's only been possible through sobriety.'
The International Cricket Council banned Taylor in Jan. 2022 after he admitted to four charges under the anti-corruption code stemming from an incident in 2019 when he said he accepted $15,000 from businessmen in India, who asked him to fix international games.
Taylor claimed he took the money but never fixed any games.
He also was found guilty of an anti-doping offense after testing positive for the stimulant Benzoylecognine, which is a cocaine metabolite.
Taylor has undergone a thorough rehabilitation programme and has according to ZC, the former captain has 'consistently demonstrated a sincere commitment to personal growth, accountability and restoring trust.'
'Brendan has endured an incredibly difficult chapter in his life and shown genuine remorse, coupled with a powerful determination to make things right – not just for himself but for the good of the game in Zimbabwe,' ZC managing director Givemore Makoni said.
Taylor has played 34 test matches for Zimbabwe since making his debut in 2004 that include six centuries.

He said that he is not aware of evidence that Blondie was lured but added that there 'is nothing unethical or illegal about that for anyone who knows how lions are hunted. This is how people hunt.' 'Our rangers were present,' Farawo said. 'All paperwork was in order. Collars are for research purposes, but they don't make the animal immune to hunting.' Farawo declined to reveal the hunter's identity to the Associated Press, and while there has been speculation about the person's identity, it remains unconfirmed. While hunting lions has been banned in some African nations, it remains legal in Zimbabwe. Lions are classified as a vulnerable species, with just 20,000 remaining in Africa. Blondie's death echoes the slaying of Cecil, a lion from the same reserve in Zimbabwe, who was lured away and killed by an American hunter almost exactly 10 years earlier. The killing of Cecil ignited fury and protests against the hunter behind it—Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer—and brought attention to the issue of big game trophy hunting. Palmer reportedly paid $50,000 to his guides to help give him the opportunity to kill Cecil, which he did using a bow and arrow. After the outcry, Palmer expressed regret. 'If I had known this lion had a name and was important to the country or a study, obviously I wouldn't have taken it,' he said. 'Nobody in our hunting party knew before or after the name of this lion.'

English and Dolphins fans were left rocked on Friday night when star centre Herbie Farnworth went down clutching at his hamstring against the Warriors, but coach Kristian Woolf claimed he may be back before the end of the season. And it immediately had fans concerned. 'This is potentially devastating for not just this game but the Dolphins' season. He's gone. The old sniper got him in fresh air. He ran past Healey like he wasn't there and there was only Tuaupiki to beat. It was two on one," Fox Sports commentator Warren Smith said. 'He was in about fourth gear and looked towards the fullback and then boom, it just goes as quickly as that.' Although Woolf has moved to offer some good news with initial reports suggesting Farnworth is looking at four to six weeks on the sidelines. The centre has scans booked back in Brisbane.
