Canadian Border Services seize 187 kg of cocaine at Ontario crossing

During the secondary inspection of the trailer, border services officers, with the assistance of a detector dog, discovered 161 bricks of suspected cocaine in six boxes. The total weight of the suspected narcotics was 187 kg, giving it an estimated street value of $23.3 million.
The CBSA then arrested Karamveer Singh, 27, of Brampton, Ont., and transferred him and the suspected narcotics to the custody of the RCMP. Singh has been charged with importation of cocaine, and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The investigation is ongoing.
'The CBSA takes its border protection responsibilities very seriously and our officers work diligently with the RCMP to prevent smuggling across our borders,' said An Nguyen, director of St. Clair district operations for the CBSA. 'This is the fourth time a significant amount of cocaine coming from the United States was seized at the Blue Water Bridge this year.'
The CBSA notes that, to date this year, its officers have seized a total of 978 kg of cocaine at Southern Ontario ports of entry.

Two people are dead after a collision Saturday between two pickup trucks south of Thorsby. RCMP said in a media release Sunday evening officers went to the scene of a serious collision on Highway 778 at Township Road 490 about three kilometres south of the town. The two people inside a Chevrolet Silverado, a 31-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram involved in the crash was taken to hospital. Suspect charged in alleged carjacking of Victoria mom and kids

3 charged with manslaughter in northern B.C.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 24, in the 9900 block of 99 Avenue. Police were called to the area around 6:45 p.m. that day and arrived to find the unresponsive victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. On Friday night, Fort St. John RCMP announced an update in the case, saying in a news release that 'an intense investigation' had led to the arrest of three suspects, who have each been charged. Online court records identify two of those charged, while the third name is redacted due to a publication ban. The named suspects are Ethan Joseph Charles Dore and Dyllon John Cazes. Dore's year of birth is listed as 2000, while Cazes was born in 1993. Police said two of the suspects had been remanded into police custody and scheduled to appear in court on June 30, with the third was in police custody awaiting a bail hearing. Officers from Fort St. John RCMP and the B.C. RCMP's North District worked on the investigation, with multiple units from each agency involved. 'Our investigators worked tirelessly over the past few days to conduct a thorough investigation and arrest these three individuals,' said Cpl. Paul Waterman, of the Fort St John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit, in the release. 'We believe this to be an isolated incident with no additional threat to the public.'
