China ‘stepping in' as property concerns mount, but no ‘treading the old path'
Analysts say that while there is no quick fix to the woes, Beijing has grown more wary of the impact on overall sentiment and domestic demand, as the economy grapples with external turmoil.
A State Council meeting convened by Li on Friday set a more definitive tone on supporting China's property market, which came ahead of Monday's release of key economic data for the January-May period.
The meeting underscored the need to 'further optimise existing policies and enhance systematic synergy of implementation' to stabilise expectations, stimulate demand and mitigate risks, the state's Xinhua reported.
Specifically, there will be a thorough stocktake of ongoing projects and land supplies, and urban-renewal projects will receive more land supply and financing aid.
Once again, the meeting stated that the ultimate goal is to 'halt the decline and stabilise the sector'.

Hong Kong's John Lee holds first forum to gauge views for coming policy address
Hongkongers have shared their concerns with the city's leader on issues such as housing, innovation and technology, youth development and poverty, with the chief executive pledging to continue collecting public views before mapping out 'pragmatic' policies. In the first public consultation exercise ahead of his fourth annual policy address, John Lee Ka-chiu on Sunday met about 120 residents at Ma Tau Chung Government Primary School in Hung Hom, a neighbourhood where he grew up. Residents issued a string of calls and suggestions at the two-hour forum, covering topics such as land and housing, transport, innovation and technology, financial services development, culture and sports, education, youth issues, poverty alleviation, healthcare services, social welfare and more. 'There are issues that members of the public care deeply about, so I attach great importance to district consultations,' Lee said after the forum, which was attended by the city's top three principal officials and nearly all ministers. 'These views will let me have a better grasp on formulating policies and the allocation of resources when I prepare the policy address.' Lee said he brought forward the policy address to September from October.

Towngas to build hydrogen-powered EV charging stations amid mixed industry signals
Hong Kong's major natural gas company is looking to produce hydrogen for application in other industries, showing commitment to the market at a time when companies and governments are cancelling or scaling back plans amid cost challenges. Advertisement Hong Kong and China Gas, or Towngas as the sole natural gas producer is known, will start work on building the city's first public electric vehicle (EV) charging station powered by hydrogen, it said on Friday. The venture was expected to commence operations next year, it added. The firm will extract hydrogen from its existing gas network, chief operating officer Don Cheng Hill-kwong said, as part of its contribution to Hong Kong's 2050 peak-emissions target. It would initially feature five charging piles, while the power production costs would be higher compared to other power sources, he said. 'Once our business scales up, we believe the costs of electricity generated from hydrogen will be lower than other green power sources,' he added.
