Kerala government constitutes 7-member panel for preparing ‘State Water Security Plan'
The Kerala government is moving ahead with plans to create a 'State Water Security Plan', a requirement under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the Centrally-assisted functional household tap connectivity (FHTC) scheme for rural areas. Given the multi-dimensional nature of water security, the government has constituted a committee with members from the Local Self-Governments, Irrigation, Ground Water, Revenue and Forest departments; and the Kerala Water Authority (KWA), and the Kerala Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (Jalanidhi). The character of the water security plan will be decided through deliberations, Jeevan Babu, managing director, KWA and mission director, JJM, said. KWA is the main implementation agency of JJM in Kerala. Deliberations will have to be held because of the involvement of multiple stakeholder agencies in surface and ground water resources and the diverse demands on these resources ranging from drinking water to irrigation and power generation. The panel has been formed on a recommendation made by the State Water and Sanitation Mission (SWSM), a committee chaired by the Chief Secretary which was constituted in 2020 to oversee the implementation of JJM. While Kerala is not a water-scarce State, it has been struggling to keep up with other States in the implementation of JJM. The Union Budget 2025-26 announcement extending the scheme till 2028 has brought relief to the State. With implementation at 54.66%, Kerala is at the bottom of the national-level list, indicate Union Jal Shakti Ministry data. Three blocks, 73 panchayats and 95 panchayats in Kerala have been certified as having 'Har Ghar Jal' status. Among the districts, Wayanad (37.90%), Idukki (36.93%) and Kasaragod (32.62%) are lagging behind in the implementation.

Rs 110 crore worth of roads completed in Addanki: Min Gottipati Ravi Kumar
GUNTUR: Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Tuesday announced that road works worth Rs 110 crore have been completed in Addanki constituency within a year, highlighting the coalition government's focus on development. Participating in the Intintiki Telugu Desam campaign in Addanki, he laid the foundation for the Rs 5.10 crore Vemparala–Mailavaram BT road and a Rs 55 lakh Jal Jeevan Mission project. He assured completion of the road within five months, with funding from Panchayat Raj, NABARD, and Roads and Buildings departments. Gottipati criticised the previous YSRCP government for neglecting even basic road repairs. 'They did not lay even a single kilometre of road in five years,' he alleged. He praised Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for extending infrastructure to rural areas on par with urban development. The minister also accused YSRCP leaders of involvement in scams, including the liquor scam, and of spreading false propaganda to deflect from their failures. Highlighting welfare schemes, he said the government had allocated Rs 33,000 crore annually in pensions to 65 lakh beneficiaries and Rs 10,000 crore was transferred in a single day through Talli Ki Vandanam, and free LPG connections are being provided despite financial hurdles left by the previous regime.

2 fake NREGA job card holders found in Bengal in 2024-25
1 2 Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Tuesday questioned the Centre's stance towards Bengal after junior rural development minister Kamlesh Paswan informed party MP Mala Roy that only two fake NREGA job card holders had been found in the state in 2024–25, whereas the figures for UP, Rajasthan, Bihar, Odisha and MP ran into the thousands. In a statement on X, TMC said the figures placed in the Lok Sabha by the central minister clearly showed that 11,07,814 fake MGNREGA job cards were deleted across India between 2022 and 2025. "BJP-governed Uttar Pradesh alone accounted for 4,50,172 deletions, 40.6% of the total. The other top offenders, Odisha, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, are all Double Engine states. Bengal saw just 5,984 deletions, a mere 0.5%," the party said. The party questioned BJP, asking, "Yet it is Bengal whose MGNREGA funds were cruelly blocked, with bogus allegations of irregularities. So, which is it, BJP? Were you lying all along to justify your economic blockade against Bengal out of pure political vendetta? Or are BJP-ruled states simply above scrutiny?" Calcutta High Court on June 18 directed the Centre to resume the 100 days' work programme in Bengal from August 1, saying the scheme could not be "put in cold storage for eternity". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo The NREGA scheme was suspended in the state for close to three years.
