Utkal Sanskrurika Samaj is set to celebrate Rath Yatra
Visakhapatnam: Coinciding with the Rath Yatra at Sri Jagannath Puri temple, Utkal Sanskrurika Samaj, a premier socio-cultural organisation for Odias in the city, is celebrating Rath Yatra on June 27th (Friday). As part of the celebrations, the deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra will be taken out for a procession in a decorated chariot from the temple located at Daspalla Hills near All India Radio to Sri Gundicha temple at Lawson's Bay Colony.
The deities were rejuvenated a day before the Rath Yatra through the annual ritual known as 'Naba Jauban Besha.' The deities will be taken to the chariot from the sanctum sanctorum of the temple in a ritual 'Pahandi Bije.'
Then after sweeping the platform by the designated Gajapati, president of the samaj JK Nayak, the chariot will be pulled forward. The Rath Yatra will pass through VUDA Children Park, AU Gate, Park Hotel and VUDA Park before reaching the Gundicha temple at Lawsons Bay Colony where the deities will be in sojourn till July 5th wherein the return yatra, also known as 'Bahuda Yatra,' is scheduled. A number of devotional activities are lined up on the occasion.
Contributing to the festival celebrations, Marwadi Yuva Manch is providing drinking water to the devotees enroute the yatra. Artistes will present cultural programmes during the procession.
Sankeertan will be presented by the troupe deputed by the Odisha culture department, government of Odisha. Among others, general secretary of the samaj Binal Kumar Mahanta appealed to people to participate in the Rath Yatra and make it a grand success.

Satya crafts twin ‘Nandighoshas'
Berhampur In a spell-binding tribute to Lord Jagannath and the spirit of Rath Yatra, sand and miniature artiste Satya Narayan Maharana has created two handcrafted Nandighosha chariots made from cane and old newspapers. Famed for his miniature artifacts that earned him over 70 national and international records, Satya Narayan ventured into new artistic realms. For the first time, he has crafted a Nandighosha chariot entirely from cane, a feat of patience and devotion. This 11-inch-high and 7.5-inch-wide cane chariot is an intricate masterpiece featuring 4 horses, 2 reversed parrots, 16 wheels, Dadhinauti, Patitapabana flag, Sarathi and one beautifully crafted idol of Lord Jagannath (all made of cane), the only coloured element in the otherwise French-polished creation. It took three days of delicate work, involving softening the cane in water for hours before weaving and moulding it into divine artistry. Equally remarkable is the second chariot, made from discarded newspapers, meticulously layered and glued with 'Fevicol', followed by watercolour painting. This 3-inch-high and 2-inch-wide marvel, completed in just four hours, stands as a testament to sustainable creativity and visual appeal. At 41 years old, Satya Narayan continues to mesmerise art lovers with his skill and devotion. Having already sculpted 17 miniature Nandighosha chariots earlier using diverse materials like wood, chalk, bamboo, ice-cream sticks, clay and even shirt buttons, his latest effort celebrates both heritage and innovation. These miniature chariots are not just models—they are symbols of devotion carved through creativity, echoing the spirit of Rath Yatra in the smallest, most enchanting forms.

Massive crowd takes part in vibrant celebrations
BHUBANESWAR: The temple city came alive on Friday with vibrant celebrations and spiritual fervour as thousands of devotees thronged the Jagannath temples to participate in the annual Rath Yatra. With the weather remaining pleasant throughout the day, the ISKCON temple at Nayapalli witnessed a massive turnout. The three elaborately decorated chariots were pulled with great enthusiasm from the temple premises to the Gundicha Temple at Unit-8. 'After the ceremonial Pahandi Bije ritual, the traditional Chhera Pahanra was performed. The pulling of chariots began around 3 pm and concluded by 6:15 pm. An estimated two to three lakh devotees joined the celebration,' said ISKCON temple PRO Radhakanta Das. He added that the temple distributed prasad to over 30,000 devotees for free. Meanwhile, Shrivani Kshetra at KISS also hosted the festival with grandeur. 'All rituals were performed smoothly. KIIT and KISS founder Achyuta Samanta performed the Chhera Pahanra ritual around 3 pm,' said officials from KISS. More than 50,000 people took part in the celebrations, aided by the favourable weather. In addition to ISKCON and KISS, the Rath Yatra was celebrated at 56 other locations across the city, including Sailashri Vihar, Dumduma, Baramunda, Patia, Old Town, Rasulgarh, and Vani Vihar. Children were also seen pulling miniature chariots of the Holy Trinity in the Mausima temple area. 'We wait for this day all year. Being part of this sacred procession brings immense inner peace and a deep sense of spirituality,' said Prasad Sahu, a resident of Rasulgarh. To ensure the smooth conduct of the festival, the Commissionerate Police deployed 17 platoons of force across key locations. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) set up first aid camps, mobilised sanitation teams, and launched an awareness drive on health and hygiene.
