
2025–26 academic session: AUD announces commencement of admissions, new courses
Dr B R Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) on Thursday announced the commencement of admissions for the 2025–26 academic session, introducing new courses and reiterating its commitment to inclusive, and affordable education.
Vice-Chancellor Anu Singh Lather, while launching the admission brochure, said, 'We are pleased to announce the launch of a Master's programme in Political Science and a Doctor of Literature degree in the discipline of Social Science and Humanities.'
For 2025–26, the university will admit students to 20 undergraduate (UG) and 28 postgraduate (PG) programmes, primarily through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). However, the BBA in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Venture Development (IEV) will be offered through the Common Management Admission Committee (CMAC).
The university has allocated 2,614 seats – 1,123 for UG and 1,491 for PG courses, including supernumerary quotas. 'One seat per UG and PG programme has been reserved for orphan candidates,' the AUD said in an official release. This was applicable last year too.
Lather further emphasised the university's subsidised fee structure 'for students from disadvantaged backgrounds' and underlined its alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. 'The university is implementing field-based pedagogies and research approaches as part of its NEP alignment,' she said.
Maintaining that a significant portion of the seats is reserved for local students at AUD, the release stated, 'The university reserves 85% of its seats for students from Delhi NCT.'
'For UG admissions, candidates who have completed Class 12 from institutions in Delhi will be considered under the Delhi NCT category, while for PG admissions, candidates who have completed their Bachelor's degree from an institution in Delhi will qualify under the same,' it added.
Describing AUD's vision going forward, Lather said: 'The university remains steadfast in its mission to expand the employability, innovation, and entrepreneurial potential of its students by offering dynamic platforms for academic and professional growth.'

Jawaharlal Nehru University cuts foreign student fees by 80% to attract applicants
To boost international enrolments and strengthen its global academic standing, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has introduced a significant cut in tuition fees for foreign students. Effective from this academic year, the revised fee structure offers reductions of between 33 percent and 80 percent, varying by course and largest fee cuts have been offered to students from SAARC, African, and Latin American nations, with the aim of easing financial barriers for those coming from economically disadvantaged example, students from African and Latin American countries will now pay just $300 per semester for humanities courses, down from $1,500 — marking an 80% drop. For science courses, the new fee is $400, reduced from $1,900. SAARC students will also benefit significantly. Those enroling in humanities will pay $200 instead of $700, a 71% reduction. In the science stream, the fee is now $300, down from $700 — a 57% from West Asian countries will pay $500 for humanities and $600 for science courses — reductions of 66% and 68%, respectively. For students from all other countries, the new semester fees are $1,000 for humanities (down from $1,500) and $1,250 for science (down from $1,900). All international students will now also pay a one-time registration fee of $ Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit said the move is part of the university's strategy to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes global and inclusive classrooms. The decision follows a detailed study of fee practices at international universities and aims to revive the dwindling number of foreign students on shows that JNU had 152 foreign students in 2020–21, but the number dropped sharply to just 51 in 2023–24. Several students had blamed the high tuition fees for the decline. Shaping future-ready learners: Education in the age of industry 5.0
The future of work is being drastically reshaped. In a world that is characterised by automation, artificial intelligence, and swift technological developments, the future of work is no longer about technical skills alone. It is being defined by a mix of human qualities—like creativity, flexibility, emotional intelligence—and applicable, real-world skills. This is the principle of Industry 5.0: a movement towards technology for human purposes, and learning that equips learners to flourish in this changing world. Education Industry 5.0 especially envisions the future of academic institutions as the facilitators of technical ability as well as human potential. Simply knowing concepts is not sufficient for students; they need to be able to implement them in real-world setups. Theory and practice have to converge, and knowledge has to be action-oriented. This is why experiential, skill-based learning patterns are rapidly becoming a standard that institutions seek to follow in order to remain contextually relevant in a world that is increasingly future-oriented. On top campuses around the world today, this vision is being brought to life by the combination of cutting-edge learning ecosystems centred on real-time application. For instance, Production Centres and Action Learning Labs are being optimised to mimic industrial environments—offering students a controlled but realistic environment where they can interact with live tools, processes, and problem-solving exercises. These formats enhance technical competence as well as foster teamwork, decision-making, and critical thinking—abilities that cannot be acquired from conventional lecture formats. Concurrently, the availability of various manufacturing labs in different disciplines is equipping students with the ability to engage and hone skills in particular fields, such as mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hybrid technologies. Through hands-on interaction with industry-level equipment and materials, students receive experiential learning that closes the gap between course curriculum and on-the-job demands. These initiatives are also in tune with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which puts focus on experiential learning, multidisciplinary learning, and the incorporation of vocational training within higher education. The policy acknowledges the fact that in order to develop the workforce that India would need for Industry 5.0, institutions need to embrace models that transcend rote learning and facilitate active, project-based learning. One other major step toward this is making lateral entry opportunities available into academic programs. This framework facilitates varied paths of learners by recognising previous learning, work experience, and personal career paths. It allows professionals, diploma holders, and students from different backgrounds to enter advanced levels of education without duplication—establishing a flexible structure that facilitates lifelong learning and career flexibility. At the centre of such changing dynamics in education are the realisations that employability during the Industry 5.0 era is not solely based on academic outcomes. There is a desire from employers for workers who will be able to contribute immediately—workers who can work with tools, address real-life problems, and work well across disciplines. Institutions offering opportunities for real-world experience, skill acquisition, and interdisciplinary learning are at the forefront of creating just such a workforce. The future will be claimed by students who can integrate technical knowledge with human intuition. As education becomes more aligned with business realities, it is no longer a place for teaching, but a starting point for innovation, grit, and real contribution. Industry 5.0 is not a future idea—it's an evolution that requires education systems to be responsive, equitable, and highly sensitive to the requirements of society as well as the economy. While experiential learning, modular program formats, and application-driven pedagogy become the driving forces, the education sector has the potential to make a generation ready not just for the future but also capable of driving change. Chandigarh: 42 govt schools to get mentors under NEP initiative
The Chandigarh administration has relaunched the School Mentorship Programme under the National Education Policy (NEP). As part of the initiative, eminent personalities from diverse fields including administration, medicine, academia and entrepreneurship will mentor 42 government senior secondary schools in the city. Mentors' names and photographs will be displayed in the respective schools to signify their association. Each mentor will 'adopt' a school and regularly interact with students, offering guidance, motivation, and exposure to diverse career paths. Among the mentors are key officials of the UT administration, including acting UT director general of police Pushpendra Kumar, deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav, and home secretary Mandeep Singh Brar, who have each been assigned schools. Prominent academicians like Panjab University registrar YP Verma, Nandita Shukla Singh (department of education, PU), and faculty members from institutions like IISER and NIPER, Mohali, will also serve as mentors. In the medical field, several experts from the departments of community medicine and psychiatry have been included, with PGIMER director Dr Vivek Lal mentoring Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Dhanas. The programme also brings on board leading entrepreneurs, including Taranjeet Singh Bamra, chairperson of CII Chandigarh, former CII chairpersons Sarvjeet Virk, SPS Grewal, and Manish Gupta, and Bharti Sood, regional director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Educationist Dr Madhu Chitkara and entrepreneur Naveen Manglani are also among the mentors. Explaining the structure, UT director of school education Harsuhinderpal Singh Brar, who himself is mentoring GMSSS Dhanas, said, 'The initiative is designed for sustained, monthly engagement. Mentors are expected to visit schools at least once a month, interact with students, attend parent-teacher meetings and serve as role models. Their role is non-administrative, focused solely on guidance, support, and inspiration.' Mentors' names and photographs will be displayed in the respective schools to signify their association. 'Currently this scheme is for senior secondary schools only but we are looking to expand it to all schools. We will also rope in more mentors looking at the response from the first phase of this scheme,' Brar said.
