UP: PM Modi announces ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh after 5 killed in Sambhal wedding car crash
In a post on X, PM Modi said, 'Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in an accident in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon.'
'An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,' he wrote.
The accident that took place in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district, where five people lost their lives and several others were injured after a car carrying members of a wedding procession crashed into a wall.
The incident occurred around 7:30 pm in the Junawai area, when a Bolero Neo vehicle rammed into the wall of Janta Inter College.
According to Sambhal SP KK Bishnoi, police received information about the accident in the evening and immediately rushed to the spot. 'At around 7.30 pm, we received information that a Bolero Neo car had collided with the wall of Janta Inter College. Police reached the spot and removed the car with the help of a JCB,' he told ANI.
'Five critically injured have been referred to Aligarh, and the other five lost their lives on the spot. They were residents of Hargovind village under the Junawai police station area,' the SP added.
The victims were part of a wedding procession, and the groom was on his way to his wedding. Initial investigations suggested that the accident occurred due to a mistake by the driver.
'The car probably collided due to the driver's mistake...' SP Bishnoi later said.
Further investigation is still ongoing. (ANI)

During interrogation, the accused admitted to selling the stolen locket and mobile phone, using the proceeds for drugs and alcohol. "The accused persons also confessed to committing three other robberies targeting truck drivers in nearby areas hours before this incident. We are currently verifying these claims," added DCP Banthia. Both accused have previous criminal records.

After four days of wait, woman gets hubby's body; cremates it in Hyderabad
1 2 Berhampur: After waiting for four days, Sonali Mohapatra (31) on Saturday got the body of her husband, Prasant Mohapatra, who died at the Sigachi Industries' unit in Telangana. His body was cremated in Hyderabad instead of being brought to Kurigaon in Ganjam district's Chhatarpur block. "We were so disturbed after his death, we decided to cremate the body in Hyderabad. I am very worried about the future of my three children," said Sonali. Prasant was among three persons from Ganjam and nine from Odisha, who died in the explosion. The couple has two sons, aged 13 and 10 years, and a six-year-old daughter. Telangana govt has already provided Rs 1 lakh to the family members of each deceased. Odisha govt has announced to pay Rs 10 lakh. The body of Sidharth Gouda (19) arrived in an ambulance at Podingi village in Hinjili block late on Friday evening. Sidharth was working in the factory for the last four months. On July 2, the body of Jagan Mohana (56), of Chhatrapur was brought in an ambulance after the deceased's family identified the body. The family members of the deceased, his wife Vijayalaxmi (50) and two sons, who are living in Hyderabad for over two decades, accompanied the body. Sameer Kumar Padhy of Baharapur under Dharakote block, who sustained around 30% to 35% injuries is undergoing treatment in the ICU. 3 more held for Rs 2cr jewellery heist in K'jhar
1 2 Keonjhar: Three more persons were arrested on Saturday in connection with a Rs 2 crore jewellery store heist in Harichandanpur main market in Keonjhar district, bringing the total number of arrests to six. The accused were identified as Ajit Patnaik from Kendrapada, Indramani Mohanta from Jajpur and Budhadeb Mohanta from Keonjhar. Earlier, Biki Patra and Jagu Patra from Kendrapada and Jagannath Ghadei from Cuttack were taken into custody. Ghatagaon SDPO Bijay Kumar Mahapatra and IIC of Harichandanpur police station, Devaki Naik, said a group of armed miscreants stormed the jewellery store, threatening the owner and employees before decamping with gold ornaments worth over Rs 2 crore on June 25. Some of the stolen items have been recovered but their value is yet to be ascertained. Police recovered a mobile phone and two motorcycles abandoned on the Bhagamunda road, which led to the identification and arrest of the accused. Three mobile phones and three motorcycles have been seized. Efforts are on to nab the remaining culprits.
