Rs 10k crore green hydrogen and ammonia facility to come up near Mulapeta in AP

Time of India24-05-2025
Vijayawada-based renewable energy player Juno Joule Green Energy Pvt Ltd has inked a memorandum of understanding with German clean energy company Select Energy GmbH to co-develop an export-oriented green hydrogen and ammonia facility in Andhra Pradesh at an investment of US$1.3 billion (approx Rs 10,000 crore).
The project, which will come up near Mulapeta port along the country's east coast, will be developed in three phases and aims to produce around 180 KTPA (kilo tonnes per annum) of green hydrogen by 2029, which will be converted into up to one million tons of green ammonia annually for export.
Construction on the project, which will be built to meet stringent EU RFNBO (EU Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin) norms, is expected to commence in 2026.
The project is expected to generate around 5,000 to 6,000 direct and indirect jobs across operations, construction, logistics, and support sectors.
It will also lead to technology transfer, upskilling of local talent, and the emergence of AP and Telangana region as a clean energy hub on the global map, the company said.
The facility will include an advanced desalination plant to sustainably source high-purity water from seawater, electrolysers powered by a diversified mix of solar, wind, and hydropower, and port-connected pipeline infrastructure for efficient large-scale exports.
The MoU was signed by Juno Joule Green Energy CEO Nagasharath Rayapati and Select New Energies GmbH managing director Felix Danger at the World Hydrogen Summit 2025 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Parvathy Puthanar canal project faces deadlock over payout row

Thiruvananthapuram: The state govt is facing a stalemate over compensation for 185 families who must be evicted to widen the Parvathy Puthanar canal along the Kovalam–Akkulam stretch of the Kovalam–Bekal waterway project. Although these families live on puramboke (govt-owned) land, they are demanding Rs 20 lakh per household—nearly double the Rs 11 lakh currently offered. This deadlock has delayed the land acquisition process in the stretch, which affects a total of 474 households. So far, 289 families have accepted the Rs 11 lakh package and are ready to relocate. However, the remaining 185 families—located within the Thiruvananthapuram city corporation limits—argue that the offered amount does not reflect higher urban land values. Officials from the Inland Navigation Department and Kerala Waterways and Infrastructure Ltd (KWIL), the special-purpose vehicle overseeing the project, contend that the Rs 11 lakh base compensation, combined with additional payment for structures, brings the total package to around Rs 15 lakh per household—an amount they deem fair. "We have offered Rs 11 lakh for landless families living on govt land, along with compensation for their buildings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like So sánh mức trượt giá: Hợp đồng tương lai (CFD) Bitcoin vs Ethereum IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo This makes the total package worth around Rs 15 lakh," said Arun K Jacob, director of the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation. "Still, 185 families are demanding Rs 20 lakh. We are planning a meeting with ward councillors and residents to find a solution," he added. While acquisition between Kovalam and Akkulam remains stalled, land acquisition from Akkulam to Varkala is nearly complete. "Most families in that stretch have accepted the offer," Jacob noted. Canal widening work has begun, with a 25-metre-wide waterway and five-metre service roads being constructed on both sides to facilitate navigation and maintenance. The project, funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), covers the rejuvenation of 16.4 km of the Parvathy Puthanar canal from Kovalam to Akkulam and its extension up to Varkala. The total project cost is Rs 274 crore. KIIFB has already funded substantial land acquisition and canal development in this region. The state cabinet had earlier approved a component for valuing structures on govt land, ensuring that compensation reflects not just land value but also the cost of buildings. All payments are being made through direct bank transfers from the state treasury. Officials confirmed that a stakeholder meeting involving the 185 holdout families and local representatives is being organized. Authorities hope consensus can be reached around the Rs 15 lakh package to unlock the stalled portion of the project. Meanwhile, the commissioning of the section between Akkulam and Varkala is expected by Sept or Oct this year.

Engg student bags Rs 72L job at Rolls Royce

Mangaluru: Rithuparna KS, who completed her sixth semester at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, secured a job at Rolls Royce with a package of Rs 72.3 lakh per annum. Hailing from Koduru in Thirthahalli taluk, Rithuparna is undergoing training in the Jet Engine Manufacturing Division. What began as a hesitant step into engineering turned into a path-breaking journey of innovation and hard work, culminating in a pre-placement offer (PPO). Rithuparna is the daughter of Saresh KN and Geetha Saresh, and she has a younger sister, Rithvika KS. She did her schooling at Sr Agnes and is pursuing a BE course in robotics and automation engineering. She said, "After PUC, my dream was to become a doctor. However, when my NEET results did not fetch a govt seat, I secured a govt seat in the 2022 CET counselling and enrolled at Sahyadri College. Though disheartened initially, from day one of college, I began exploring and ideating." Her first project was aimed at solving problems faced by arecanut farmers using robotics. Along with a team, she presented a harvester and sprayer model at the Goa INEX competition, winning a gold and silver medal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Global Indices Are on the Move — Time to Trade! She interacted with doctors and studied robotic surgery and later met the then deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP and joined a team to develop an app for solid waste management. Meanwhile, with a strong desire to do an internship, she reached out to Rolls Royce. However, she was disappointed when they asked her, "Do you even qualify to be part of our firm," and reportedly said that she would not be able to complete even one of the assigned tasks in a month Rithuparna requested them to give her a task and expressed confidence in completing the same. They eventually sent her a task with a one-month deadline. Though she did not fully understand it at first, she worked tirelessly, researching from multiple sources, and completed the one-month task in a week. They then sent her another task. What followed was eight months of countless challenges. She even faced several gruelling interview rounds. Just when she began to wonder if it would ever work out, in Dec 2024, she received a direct job offer through a PPO. The company instructed her to begin work from Jan 2, on a work-from-home basis from midnight to 6am., alongside managing her college responsibilities. Once she completes her 7th semester, she will join the company's Texas unit in the US. In late April, another surprise awaited her: the company increased her annual compensation from Rs 39.6 LPA to Rs 72.3 LPA, which she will start receiving once she joins the firm. Lawrence Joseph Fernandes, HoD, dept of mechanical engineering and robotics and automation, said that the college is proud of her achievement.

‘At DU, Over 60% Likely To Opt For 4th Yr Under FYUP'

New Delhi: Over 60 per cent of undergraduate students at Delhi University are expected to pursue the optional fourth year under the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP), vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh said on Saturday, even as questions continue to be raised about the programme's implementation and long-term viability. "DU is ready for the fourth year," Singh said at the university's executive council (EC) meeting, where several administrative and academic proposals were tabled and approved. He added that the university is fully prepared for the rollout and that solutions are being worked out for colleges facing implementation challenges. "In colleges which have a shortage of faculty, provision will be made for engaging some guest faculty as well as regular teachers from the same college or other colleges to take additional classes," Singh said. However, he clarified that only regular faculty will be assigned to teach fourth-year students, while guest faculty will teach only junior classes. He further said that provision would also be made for proper payment for both teachers and non-teaching staff handling overtime duties. While the VC's remarks aimed to project confidence in the university's preparedness, some council members reiterated their earlier objections, pointing to challenges in sustaining academic rigour, ensuring research quality, and addressing equity in access. Among other decisions, EC approved infrastructure development projects worth nearly Rs 1,912.2 crore, including hostel construction, new academic buildings, and retrofitting of old structures across campuses. The council also approved the appointment of Prof Rajni Abbi as director of the South Campus, and endorsed the setup of solar power plants in collaboration with SECI. A committee was constituted to explore the possibility of instituting a sports scholarship in memory of former Union Minister and DU alumnus Arun Jaitley, which will consult with his family.
