Jordan: NCSC says over 6,700 incidents handled in 2024
According to the centre's annual report released on Thursday, the surge is largely due to expanded monitoring efforts across government networks and systems, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
These efforts enabled cybersecurity teams to detect 97 per cent of the incidents before they could cause significant harm.
The report revealed that the NCSC issued 6,922 cybersecurity alerts this year, more than doubling the 2,609 alerts issued in 2023.
The national cyber incident response team, known as JOCERT, managed 3 per cent of the total incidents and released 75 technical reports analysing their nature and impact.
Also, JOCERT handled 3 per cent of the incidents and issued 75 technical reports on them, the report said.
The report indicated that 2 per cent of the recorded incidents were classified as serious, while 88 per cent were of medium severity and 10 per cent of low severity.
The report said that no incidents reached the 'critical' level in 2024, in contrast to the 1 per cent classified as critical in 2023.
The centre said that some attacks were linked to espionage and data theft operations, while others involved malware and various types of computer viruses.
The NCSC conducted extensive security assessments, identifying 7,846 vulnerabilities across key government websites, servers, and digital infrastructure projects, according to the report.

Dubai Police has urged community members to avoid engaging with suspicious offers about opening bank accounts or sharing banking information with unofficial sources. They highlighted that such actions could unintentionally implicate individuals as accomplices in the crime, resulting in serious legal consequences. Moreover, the Force called on the public to promptly report any suspicious financial activities through the "eCrime" platform or the Dubai Police smart app. They emphasised the importance of vigilance, urging individuals to take the security of their bank accounts and personal information seriously to safeguard the financial and social well-being of the entire community

Jordan: 2 armed people killed in foiled 'infiltration attempt' via Syrian border
Jordan's armed forces said on Saturday that its forces killed two armed people after a 'foiled infiltration attempt' through its border with Syria the previous day. The Jordanian Armed Forces did not provide further details in its statement but said that the rest of the armed group was pushed back to the Syrian territory. In January, Jordan and Syria agreed to form a joint security committee to secure their border, combat arms and drug smuggling and work to prevent the resurgence of Daesh militants.

Dubai: 12-member gang jailed for armed robbery at company office
The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced 12 African men to three years in jail for storming a company office, threatening staff with knives, and stealing a large sum of money. The defendants were also jointly fined Dh2 million, and will be deported after serving their prison terms. According to case records, the incident took place in December when the Arab owner of a Dubai-based company was in his office with his son and another colleague. He was surprised by a group of masked men entering the premises, armed with knives and white weapons. One of the intruders allegedly threatened to kill the man's son if he didn't hand over all the cash. The victim managed to pull his son away and hide in a nearby bathroom, but the suspects broke down the door and assaulted them both. The attackers then demanded the key to the company's safe, which contained cash and other valuables. The victim complied under threat, and the suspects fled with the stolen money. A police officer testified that a CID team reviewed surveillance footage from the scene and quickly identified the suspects as well as the vehicle used in the crime. One gang member was arrested in possession of a bag containing knives, Dh5,000 in cash, and $1,000 — believed to be part of the stolen funds. He confessed to participating in the robbery and led authorities to the remaining members of the gang, who were subsequently arrested. All 12 men admitted to their role in the break-in, although they denied intending to kill anyone. The court found the evidence sufficient to convict all of them of armed robbery and issued the sentence accordingly.
