TTD Resumes VIP Break Darshan for AP, TS Leaders from May 15
Under the resumed procedure, Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and Members of Legislative Council (MLCs) from the two Telugu states can forward referrals for VIP Break Darshan. Devotees carrying these referral letters will be allowed entry from May 16.
TTD officials clarified that while referrals will be entertained starting this date, all other guidelines and procedures governing VIP Break Darshan will remain the same. The existing protocols regarding quota, time slots, and identification checks will continue to be followed without modifications.

Renaming spree: Bengaluru Rural district to be called Bengaluru North; and university named after Manmohan Singh
The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to name Bengaluru City University after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away in December 2024. It also decided to rename the border town of Bagepalli as Bhagya Nagar and Bengaluru Rural district as Bengaluru North district. Incidentally, the government's earlier decision to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South drew sharp reactions from its political rival Janata Dal (Secular). 'The government decided on renaming Bagepalli based on the request of the local legislator. Palli is a Telugu word. In our region (Mysuru), we call a lizard palli,' Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended. When his attention was drawn to several villages in Bagepalli taluk having palli in their name and what the government intended to do about them, Mr. Siddaramaiah said, 'We will go by what the local legislator says.' Projects for Chickballapur The Cabinet on Wednesday approved several projects for Chickballapur. Among them was the second campus of Bengaluru North University at Amaravati village in Sidlaghatta taluk at a cost of ₹123.5 core, an international flower auction centre at a cost of ₹10 crore, construction of a reservoir in Chintamani taluk at a cost of ₹36 crore, and approval for filling water from the Hebbal-Nagawara valley to 164 tanks in Sidlaghatta and Chintamani taluks. Other sanctions are ₹11-crore worth of MRI equipment for Nandi Institute of Medical Sciences, Chickballapur; a Morarji Desai Residential School in Chintamani, renovation of hospitals at Bagepalli and Chickballapur at a cost of ₹36 crore. Of the ₹3,400-crore projects approved on Wednesday, ₹2,050-crore worth of projects are for districts in the Bengaluru Revenue division. Other decisions Among other decisions of the Cabinet are approval of 14 residential schools in the State at a cost of ₹306 crore, residential schools for children of construction workers in every district at a cost of ₹1,125 crore, and setting up community health centres in places that do not have primary health centres. The BJP, meanwhile, has opposed naming Bengaluru City University after Manmohan Singh. Sub-committee on mining The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to set up a Cabinet sub-committee headed by Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil to study the illegal mining cases handled by the Lokayukta and submit a report within a month, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said. 'Mr. Patil also headed an earlier sub-committee on illegal mining, and he had made the recommendation on investigation, recovery and action. This is being done to safeguard the interests of the State and protect natural resources,' he added. Recently, Mr. Patil wrote a seven-page letter to the Chief Minister expressing displeasure over the handling of mining cases, and pointed out that only 7.6% of the cases had been investigated even as he accused that ₹1.5 lakh crore had been looted.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu unveils ₹4,800- crore action plan for development of Kuppam constituency
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday unveiled a ₹4,800-crore action plan for comprehensive development of the Kuppam constituency that he represents in the Legislative Assembly. 'This will transform Kuppam into a model town and a vibrant hub for solar energy, connectivity, and rural development,' Mr. Naidu said while addressing a public meeting as part of the 'Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu' programme, at Tummisi village, near Kuppam. Air connectivity Recalling his more than three decades of inseparable bond with the Kuppam region, Mr. Naidu said that plans were afoot to construct a new airport in Kuppam with an investment of ₹850 crore, which 'will contribute to the key growth of the region.' Rejecting the criticism of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) over land acquisition for the project, he reiterated that those who part with their lands would be provided suitable compensation. Road widening Mr. Naidu asserted that the modernisation of the Kuppam Railway Station and development of a four-lane highway from Palamaneru to Krishnagiri (in Tamil Nadu) would be expedited. 'The Kuppam-Hosur road widening will usher in phenomenal development of the Kuppam constituency with excellent connectivity to Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolar. Kuppam has already emerged as a center for inter-State connectivity,' Mr. Naidu said. Solar power Reiterating the government's move to give a big push to the solar energy sector, he said that under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, rooftop solar panels would be set at all the houses in Kuppam. The panels would be installed free of cost for the SC/ST households, while a 40% subsidy would be offered for the Backward Classes. 'Every household will be made power self-sufficient. Solar energy will also be provided to the agriculture sector,' he added. Mr. Naidu pledged continuous drinking water supply to Kuppam this year by completing the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) branch canal to the region at a cost of ₹85 crore, while the total investment on the project would be ₹3,980 crore. The Chief Minister also referred to the plans such as development of road and temples, promotion of dairy sector in Kuppam to take milk production to 10 lakh litres per day, and 'Brand Kuppam' initiative for local products.

Call for reclaiming India's role as ‘Vishwaguru'
The National Hindu Dharmic Conference held here adopted resolutions aimed at 'safeguarding and revitalising Hindu traditions and temple governance.' The conference, organised by Sadhu Parishad here on Wednesday (July 2), called for the immediate revocation of all controversial Government Orders (G.O.s) that adversely affect temple administration. It was strongly recommended that only religiously committed individuals (Dhārmikas) be appointed to temple trust boards to ensure faith-based leadership. One of the major proposals was to declare Tirupati as a spiritual city, alongside implementing a strict ban on alcohol and meat consumption within its limits. To preserve cultural integrity, the government was urged to extend full protection to Hindu festivals and religious processions. The conference, presided over by Srinivasananda Saraswati Swamiji, adopted another resolution emphasising the need to declare cow as India's national animal and establish goshalas (cow shelters) in every village, preferably on temple land. In addition, barren land should be utilised exclusively for cultivating fodder for cows. Educational reforms were also highlighted, including a call to open new institutions under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in every district. Moreover, the TTD was urged to run its own goshalas and to use ghee from those cows in the preparation of laddus, thereby maintaining spiritual purity and self-sufficiency. Additional proposals included government funding for ashram maintenance and the removal of government employees who converted after obtaining employment based on caste reservation. BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav emphasised the need to position Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) as a global spiritual beacon, saying that despite India's immense spiritual wealth, over 80% of the world remains unaware of its dharmic depth. 'India is poised to reclaim its ancient role as 'Vishwaguru', the spiritual guide of the world.' Citing the recent International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam, where lakhs of participants chanted 'Om' in unison, Mr. Madhav lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in bringing dharmic consciousness back to the forefront of global discourse. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) State president Vabilishetty Venkateshwarlu, VHP organisational secretary Ravi Kumar and others spoke.
