Kansas City Chiefs OC Matt Nagy praises veteran wide receiver for his leadership
"Not to take anything away from any receivers that we've been with here or anywhere else, for me, this, this collective group of wide receivers from top to bottom, is very, extremely competitive, talented, and they're competing. They're pushing each other. I'll bring up a guy that right now isn't, I don't want to take for granted, as JuJu Smith-Schuster," said Nagy, "unbelievable right now, with what he's doing, as far as a leader in that room, watching guys out here walk throughs, he's taking these young guys and using his experience and given his knowledge to them, and it's exciting because he's a great player. So from top down, we have a lot of speed. The guys have knowledge. They're smart, they play fast, they're tough. Now it's just the timing with Pat (Patrick Mahomes), and we're excited to take this aggressive mentality every day in practice and then take it into the season because we're ready and locked in."
Smith-Schuster was a 2018 Pro Bowler while a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He finished the 2024 season with 18 catches for 231 yards and two touchdowns in fourteen games (eight starts).
He showed leadership last season in the locker room and on the field. Smith-Schuster's best performance during the season was in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints, recording seven catches for 130 yards.

Things are getting weird between Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel and Tyreek Hill
The already tenuous relationship between Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins has a new, bizarre chapter. The star wide receiver told reporters Friday that De'Von Achane shouldn't be Miami's short-yardage running back, only for head coach Mike McDaniel to say Sunday that the change had already taken place. 'Take De'Von [Achane] out on third down — what?' Hill said after he was asked about the team's short-yardage issues last season. 'That's my honest opinion. If it's third-and-short, he's not a power back. I keep telling him that in the locker room, but he swears he's a power back. I love De'Von, but if I'm being honest like that's why you got Jaylen Wright, that's why you got Ollie Gordon II, for those kind of situations.' 4 Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill speaks to reporters at training camp on July 22. 'I thought it was genius reporting by Tyreek, seeing how we had a short-yardage period that very day that you guys were in attendance for, and his suggestion was I guess congruent with [running backs coach Eric] Studesville — that's exactly how we repped the backs in that short-yardage period that very day,' McDaniel said. 'But we thought it was funny that he reported the news that wasn't news on that practice day in that short-yardage period that you guys were all there, too, for.' 4 Tyreek Hill is an eight-time Pro-Bowler. Getty Images The odd back-and-forth comes after Hill said he was 'opening the door' to leaving Miami at the end of last season, although the eight-time Pro Bowler then walked it back and publicly apologized during Super Bowl week in February. Hill was also reportedly late to the Dolphins' team stretch Sunday after emphasizing the importance of being on time to the start of stretch on Friday. 4 Mike McDaniel (c.) looks on at Dolphins training camp in July 2025. He's coming off a down year with 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns, but is just two seasons removed from his torrid 2023 campaign, in which he led the league in receiving yards (1,799), touchdowns (13) and yards per game (112.4).

In offseason work, Rockets' Jabari Smith Jr. prioritizes physical play, on-ball skills
'I'm more physical, more decisive, (and) stronger with the basketball,' Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. says of his offseason points of emphasis. On a newly released podcast episode of The Young Man and the Three, Jabari Smith Jr. shared a few of his priorities entering his fourth season with the Houston Rockets. 'I'm more physical, more decisive, (and) stronger with the basketball,' Smith told host Tommy Alter and New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III. Regarding his offseason work and points of emphasis, Smith continued: Obviously, ball handling is gonna be better, (and) more consistent. I'm in the weight room, I'm lifting weights, I'm getting bigger. There's no reason I shouldn't be trying to run through people (and) trying to attack. It's just something I want to get better at. After missing time in January and February with a broken hand, Smith played off the bench for the remainder of Houston's 2024-25 season due to the emergence of rising star Amen Thompson. But the offseason trade that brought All-Star forward Kevin Durant to the Rockets sent out a pair of starters (Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks) to the Phoenix Suns, which opened up an additional starting lineup slot that Smith is expected to fill. So, for the 22-year-old drafted at No. 3 in the 2022 first round, there are likely to be new opportunities in 2025-26 — and Smith's offseason work is all about ensuring that he's better prepared to take advantage. The complete conversation can be viewed and listened to below. A 6-foot-10 forward, Smith averaged 12.2 points (43.8% FG, 35.4% on 3-pointers) and 7.0 rebounds in 30.1 minutes per game last season. He remains one of Houston's most valuable and versatile defensive players, as well. Smith, Durant, Thompson, Fred VanVleet, and Alperen Sengun are the projected starters for the 2025-26 Rockets, who enter among the NBA's championship favorites after a 52-30 campaign in which Houston finished with the No. 2 record in the Western Conference. Besides adding Durant, one clear reason for optimism is continued growth and development from young players, with Smith near the top of that list. Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald on how fans should receive Pete Carroll, Geno Smith
Coach Mike Macdonald about #Seahawks vs Pete Carroll's and Geno Smith's Raiders Thursday in the preseason opener at Lumen Field:"Look, we should be cheering Pete when he gets here. We should be cheering Geno."How could we not?" The Seattle Seahawks will play their first preseason game this week. The Las Vegas Raiders will travel to Lumen Field on Thursday evening for the exhibition opener. It'll be more of a spectacle than expected of a preseason opener, with Pete Carroll and Geno Smith set to return to Seattle for the first time since their departure. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald was recently asked about how fans should react to Smith and Carroll. "Look, we should be cheering Pete when he gets here," Macdonald said. "We should be cheering Geno. How could we not?" Carroll was the Seahawks' head coach from 2010 to 2023. Compiling a record of 137-89-1 throughout 14 campaigns in charge, Carroll is the winningest coach in Seahawks history. With a triumph in Super Bowl XLVIII, he should undeniably be well-received by Seahawks faithful. Smith's legacy in Seattle is a bit more complicated. Discussions over a contract extension with the Seahawks went nowhere this offseason, prompting the trade to Las Vegas that reunited him with Carroll. The Seahawks were willing to pivot, signing Sam Darold to play quarterback. Seeing Carroll and Smith return to Seattle adds a layer of unpredictable excitement to this week's preseason opener.
