Guwahati: With Dhubri district in Assam witnessing law and order issue post Bakrid celebration, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that police is asked to shoot at sight the criminal elements. The chief minister further added that Rapid Action Force and CRPF will be rushed to Dhubri to contain the situation."The law-and-order situation was a little challenging here for the last one week. After the Eid ul Zuha , somebody kept a severed head of a cow in Hanuman temple. Peace committees are formed involving Hindus and Muslims. However, it was repeated the next day again," he said while adding that there were also cases of stone pelting at night, he said.Sarma said, ' From next time onwards I will come to Dhubri before Eid and camp for at least 10 days. Police will shoot at the sight of criminal elements."The chief minister further added that a Bangladesh backed organization Nobin Bangla has also done postering in Dhubri demanding inclusion of Dhubri district in Bangladesh. He said that these postering indicates that a communal force backed by Bangladesh is active in Dhubri and they are working to destabilize Dhubri. On June 9, the Dhubri district administration-imposed prohibition under BNSS 2023 in Dhubri town following the likelihood of breach of peace and public tranquillity in areas falling under Dhubri police station due to communal tension. The area witnessed tension following recovery of banned meat including a severed cow head from the premises of a Hanuman temple in the town's Ward no 3.This triggered widespread protest in the town and the locals demanded immediate action against the culprits. Although the police and senior district administration officials reached the spot immediately, they faced resistance from the locals, forcing them to impose restrictions.Although the restrictions under BNSS were lifted the next day, shimmering tension still continued in the district.

Gunfight erupts in Kulgam forest as police foil terror plot in J&K's Anantnag
SRINAGAR: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the Akhal forest area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Friday evening, while police, in a separate operation, allegedly foiled a terror plot by arresting three youths with arms and ammunition in Anantnag. A police official said a joint team of police, Army, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the Akhal forest area of Devsar in south Kashmir's Kulgam district in the evening after receiving specific inputs about the presence of terrorists. He said that during the search operation, troops came under fire from militants hiding in the forest area. The fire was returned by the troops, leading to an intermittent exchange of gunfire between the two sides. Additional troops have been rushed to the area to tighten the siege and prevent the militants from escaping, a security official said. He said security forces suspect the presence of a group of 3–4 militants in the area. The encounter follows a recent gunfight in the forest area of Dachigam in Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar, in which three Pakistani militants of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), who were allegedly involved in the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, were killed. Among the three killed was Suleman Shah, allegedly the mastermind of the attack. Meanwhile, police claimed to have foiled a terror plot in south Kashmir's Anantnag district by arresting three persons and recovering arms and ammunition from them. 'A security naka was set up by police, CRPF and army near Panchayat Ghar Krad in Anantnag district. During the checking of the vehicle, an Alto 800 vehicle was signalled to stop. However, the driver attempted to flee but was intercepted by the naka party,' a police official said. He said the driver and two persons travelling in the vehicle were arrested and, upon search of the vehicle and the suspects, arms and ammunition were recovered. 'The preliminary investigation suggests the trio had procured arms and ammunition from LeT and were likely planning to carry out a terror act in the region,' the police official said.

"After this verdict, my assessment is that Chidambaram should now be quizzed. He should be asked why he tried to frame the Hindu society with terror. People should also ask this question to him," he added. Almost 17 years after the Malegaon blast that claimed six lives and injured 101 people, a special court in Mumbai on Thursday acquitted all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur , noting that "there was no reliable and cogent evidence" against them.
