T-Mobile to launch data service on satellite-based network in October
By Harshita Mary Varghese
T-Mobile will introduce a data service on its
satellite-to-cell network
, powered by SpaceX's Starlink, at the start of October, the company's head of marketing, strategy and products said during a live event in Bellevue.
Over 1.8 million customers have signed up for the service since its beta program launch at the end of 2024, including "hundreds of thousands of customers from AT&T and Verizon," Mike Katz said on Monday.
T-Satellite will commercially launch on July 23, with SMS texting, MMS, picture messaging and short audio clips. On October 1, it will launch a data service to allow application experiences on the satellite network.
With over 657 Starlink satellites supporting customers with the service, the U.S. wireless carrier is looking to eliminate
mobile dead zones
and extend connectivity to more than 500,000 square miles in the U.S. that traditional cell towers can't reach, including those of Verizon and AT&T.
"The vast majority of signups was after we did the Super Bowl ad," Katz told Reuters in an interview.
Katz said that the satellite beta adoption has been fairly balanced between the top 100 markets and small town rural areas in the U.S.
T-Satellite will be included at no extra cost with T-Mobile's new "Experience Beyond" plan. For others - including AT&T and Verizon customers - the service will be available for $10 per month.
T-Mobile said that it anticipates
satellite-enabled apps
from AccuWeather, AllTrails, Apple, Google, WhatsApp and X, among many others in the future.

Blockchain: Telangana govt eyeing scalable adoption of emerging tech, mulls remote voting
Hyderabad: Telangana is deepening its commitment to blockchain innovation with a focus on real-world use cases, regulatory clarity, and public-interest applications. As Indian Web3 startups continue to migrate abroad due to regulatory uncertainties, the state govt is positioning itself as a model for responsible and scalable adoption of emerging technologies. Speaking at IBT25 India Blockchain Tour Hyderabad node, Jayesh Ranjan, special chief secretary for Special Project (SPEED) and Investment Cell, outlined a series of ongoing initiatives and upcoming pilots designed to embed blockchain into sectors like finance, agriculture, governance, and infrastructure. One of the earliest successes is T-Chits, a blockchain-backed platform for regulating chit funds. 'It is no longer a pilot. It's scaled and in public use,' Ranjan said. You Can Also Check: Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad Telangana is not just experimenting with blockchain in finance. Traceability systems for seeds have been introduced to help farmers avoid spurious products. Vehicle registrations are now recorded on a blockchain ledger to ensure the Road Transport Authority doesn't lose revenue during resales or unreported transfers, Ranjan explained. However, the use case that the govt is most excited about isn't yet public-facing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo It's remote voting. 'We've tested a system where citizens can vote from home, using AI-based facial recognition and blockchain security,' Ranjan said. 'Voting in India is full of distrust. Even EVMs are questioned, despite being tamper-proof. But this pilot showed that remote voting can be done without even one percent doubt. It might take time to launch this on a full scale because the idea needs some time to settle in.' Land, for instance, is high on Telangana's list. With ownership disputes, fraud, and unclear transactions bogging down the real estate market, the state sees blockchain-backed land records as a gamechanger. The next cohort of the Web3 sandbox will focus entirely on asset tokenization, including land, intellectual property, and climate-linked assets, added Ranjan. Sukriti Govil, consultant with the govt's emerging technologies wing, spoke about the risks that come with AI. 'We've been careful to avoid use cases involving financial transactions because of regulatory constraints. But we're actively working on frameworks around asset organisation, especially in sectors that need policy clarity and licensing structures. Legacy laws can't address the risks that come with tokenization and AI. We need new digital asset laws that allows us to differentiate between types of tokens, whether they represent data, utility, or securities,' she explained. 'In parallel, Telangana is building TGDeX, Telangana Digital Exchange, which will be launched on Wednesday. It will be started with AI use cases, but the plan is to expand it to blockchain-based applications, particularly secure data exchange. Pilot experiments using blockchain under TGDeX are expected to begin next year,' added Govil. Ranjan announced that they are setting up an accelerator for experiential tourism. It will use technologies like blockchain to preserve and authenticate Telangana's heritage, from the Kakatiya to the Qutub Shahi and Asaf Jahi dynasties, and enable immersive, verified cultural experiences for tourists.

Top 5 richest NFL tight ends: George Kittle, Travis Kelce, and more stars raking in millions
(Image via Getty: Travis Kelce with George Kittle) What if the tight end job were the NFL's new gold mine? In the past decade, it's exactly what it has become. They transitioned from a blocking-centric position to a top source of highlight-reel plays as well as seven-figure paydays. Modern tight ends don't just catch passes; they catch dollars in the form of record-smashing contracts, endorsement deals, podcasts, and shrewd side hustles. Headed up the charge? Here is the group of five elite TEs who've turned gridiron greatness into serious financial success. 1. Travis Kelce When you think of tight ends and money, you think of Travis Kelce. The Kansas City Chiefs' superstar has transformed into one of the league's wealthiest tight ends, with an estimated net worth of $50–60 million. His on-field dominance (multiple Super Bowls, consistent 1,000-yard seasons) is just the baseline. — drinkgaragebeer (@drinkgaragebeer) In April of 2024, he solidified that status with a two-year, $34.25 million extension, the type of deal that places him at the top or second on the payday lists. Off the field, Kelce's brand has blown up with endorsements from Nike, Bud Light, State Farm, and McDonald's. His New Heights podcast with brother Jason Kelce is said to be a multi-million-dollar media powerhouse. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Livguard Lithium-X: The Future of Power Backup Livguard Shop Now Undo And even a Kellogg's-style cereal line contributes to his entrepreneurial spirit. 2. Rob Gronkowski Rob Gronkowski may have retired from the limelight, but his bank account is one of the stories of dominance. With four Super Bowl rings (two with New England, one with Tampa Bay), he's not just legendary on paper; he's legendary in paychecks. Gronkowski's savvy investments and off-the-grid corporate roles have pushed his net worth to around $45–50 million. He capitalized on his charm with media gigs and endorsement deals that extended well beyond football. 3. George Kittle The people who've seen George Kittle realize he is not only dominating on the field but dominating in negotiations as well. The incandescent San Francisco 49ers tight end negotiated a four-year, $76.4 million contract in 2024. And that ranks among the highest-paid players at his position at an average of $19.1 million annually. His net worth of $30–40 million is indicative of the contributions he makes as a blocker as well as a thunderous pass receiver. Kittle's on-field personality, cute-as-a-button tough and boundless energy, has carried over nicely to brand contracts and sponsorships that tap into his "teddy bear confronts tank" charm. 4. Jason Witten The toughness and reliability of Jason Witten served him well in establishing a career and an estimated net worth of approximately $25–35 million. A 16-year fixture with the Dallas Cowboys, Witten was frequently the emotional and professional leader of the team. Eleven Pro Bowl appearances and consistent solidity made him extremely valuable, and he leveraged that longevity for large contracts. After retirement, he transitioned smoothly to broadcasting with ESPN's Monday Night Football, then briefly un-retired to suit up with the Cowboys and Raiders. Between media earnings and savvy business deals, Witten's extended career in football circles has paid off in both literal and real ways. 5. Jimmy Graham Jimmy Graham may have retired his cleats in March 2024, but not before establishing a net worth estimated at $20–25 million. Specializing in deep-red zone aerial supremacy and Pro Bowl showings, Graham always demanded hefty paydays with several clubs, including the Saints, Seahawks, Packers, and Bears. He wisely managed his salary and has held on to his fortune through a mix of conservative investments and staying connected to the world of athletics after retirement. While more subdued than a few of the larger names on this list, Graham's bank deposits and fiscal responsibility have kept him comfortably placed among the richest tight ends. Whereas signed contracts and Pro Bowl selections were the starting points, it's the off-field grind that solidified these tight ends as NFL riches royalty. Multi-million dollar contracts, enduring media franchises, and shrewd investments, these guys now embody how the new-age tight end forges wealth far greater than their contribution on the field. The job remains a work in progress. Star players such as Mark Andrews and T.J. Hockenson are racking up elite stats and new contracts that will find them on next year's "Top Richest TE" lists. Until then, however, these five pioneers, Travis Kelce, Rob Gronkowski, George Kittle, Jason Witten, and Jimmy Graham, hold court. In the NFL's new world, tight ends are not merely catching passes; they're catching paychecks. Also Read: Top 10 Richest NFL Players in 2025: Who Leads the Pack? Starlink nears India launch: Elon Musk's satcom giant gets final regulatory go-ahead, prepares for compliance trials
Representative image Elon Musk-owned Starlink is poised to receive its final regulatory approval to launch satellite communication services in India, with space regulator IN-SPACe issuing a draft authorisation document for the company to sign. Once completed, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre will countersign the document, effectively clearing the way for Starlink to begin operations. The development will place Starlink on par with existing satcom players Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite, both of whom have already secured similar approvals. Starlink received its Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) licence last month, becoming the third company in India permitted to offer satellite-based communication services, reported ET. Starlink India: What's next? Despite receiving the GMPCS licence and being close to final authorisation, Starlink must still fulfil critical operational and security requirements before launching commercial services in India. The company is now required to set up ground infrastructure, including satellite earth stations, communication gateways, and a control and monitoring centre within Indian territory. Following the installation of these systems, Starlink will have to demonstrate service functionality for security clearance, a mandatory step for all satcom operators. Without this security nod, companies are not permitted to commercially roll out services, even if they hold all necessary licences. Rivals OneWeb and Jio Satellite, which received their GMPCS permits in 2021 and 2022 respectively, are still awaiting security approval. Both companies were allocated trial spectrum by the department of telecommunications (DoT) last year to test their systems and demonstrate compliance. This trial allocation has now been extended by six months. Security watch, spectrum talks shape Starlink's rollout Starlink's progress will be closely watched by Indian security agencies, especially in light of earlier concerns. Authorities previously raised alarms over the unauthorised use of Starlink terminals in sensitive regions like the Northeast. The ministry of home affairs flagged the issue to the DoT in March this year, leading to increased scrutiny of the company's operations and data-sharing practices. Under India's satcom regulations, all traffic must be monitored within the country, pass through Indian gateways, and comply with local control protocols. Companies are also required to create buffer zones along international borders as part of the operational mandate. The DoT is expected to soon allocate a trial spectrum to Starlink to allow for demonstrations of its services and security compliance. India is simultaneously working on streamlining its satellite spectrum allocation policy. The telecom regulatory authority of India (TRAI) has recommended that satcom spectrum be assigned administratively for five years. The proposed fee is set at 4% of a provider's adjusted gross revenue (AGR). For urban users, an additional charge of Rs 500 per subscriber annually is expected, while no such cost will be levied for rural users. Notably, there will be no upfront fee or allocation cost for satellite spectrum under these recommendations. In a sign of the government's growing interest in satellite connectivity, communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently met top SpaceX officials to discuss opportunities to use satellite technologies for expanding India's digital infrastructure Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays .
