Viral video of overturned car not linked to drink driving, say cops

SUBANG JAYA: Two drivers escaped serious injury following a two-vehicle crash in SS15 that left one car overturned in the middle of the road. The incident occurred at approximately 10am on July 7, when a Proton Saga was reportedly slowing down due to traffic congestion ahead, as several vehicles were turning left into Jalan SS15/4. Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said a Toyota Vios, which was travelling behind the Proton Saga, failed to stop in time and rear-ended the car. "The impact caused the Toyota Vios to veer off course and overturn. "Fortunately, both drivers did not suffer any serious injuries," he said in a statement. The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving. Wan Azlan also clarified that a viral video allegedly showing a driver operating a vehicle while under the influence was unrelated to this incident. "That particular case took place in the Petaling Jaya district on May 23, 2025, and is being handled by the authorities there," he said. Police reminded motorists to always maintain a safe following distance and remain alert to traffic conditions to avoid similar incidents. Meanwhile, a video showing the same individual involved in another crash with an MPV has surfaced on social media, where the man appeared disoriented when confronted. In the viral clip, a man is heard confronting the driver, asking whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol during that incident. The man was seen swaying and was unable to stand still in the video. Wan Azlan confirmed that, in the Subang Jaya incident, the man tested negative for any substance abuse.

Lorry driver killed in predawn crash on NSE

MUAR: A 46-year-old lorry driver was killed in a predawn crash involving two heavy vehicles at Km144 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) early this morning. Initial police findings suggest the lorry had abruptly switched from the left to the right lane, leading a Hino lorry travelling in the same direction from Penang to Johor Baru to crash into its rear. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the Hino lorry driver, 42, attempted to brake but collided with the rear right corner of the Nissan, causing it to veer off to the left side of the highway. "The Nissan driver sustained serious internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hino driver and his 42-year-old passenger escaped unhurt," he said in a statement today. The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction. He urged witnesses to contact investigation officer Inspector Khairun Izham Noor Yusry at 013-9121508 or visit the Muar district traffic police station to assist in the probe.
