People are furious as McDonald's appears to have implemented a 30 minute rule in some of its restaurants. The fast food giant is recognised across the world for its burgers, fries, Chicken McNuggets and other items.
It has restaurants globally and the first one opened in the UK in Woolwich, south London in 1974. Many people have fond memories of celebrating their birthday at McDonald's when they were children. The PlayPlace was a popular feature of the franchise, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s.
McDonald's was known as a warm, inviting place to go for a casual sit-down meal with family and friends. But customers believe this has changed, with drive-thrus becoming more regularly used.
A user on Reddit shared their shock as they posted a photo inside a McDonald's restaurant with a sign that states: 'Please - no loitering. Time limit: 30 minutes while consuming food.'
The angry customer said: '2nd McDonald's I've been to like this in less than a week... Only 5 tables in the restaurant, no self serve drink machine, no condiments out, not even [a] napkin dispenser... What happened to McDonald's being a family friendly restaurant for kids to play at like in the 90s?'
The user didn't specify which McDonald's restaurant they spotted this sign at but others in the comment section shared that they have seen similar ones.
McDonald's has confirmed that the '30 minute rule' is not a UK policy so the post is likely to be referring to US locations.
Someone shared: 'Surprised to see people constantly posting this sign like it's new. It was up at my local McDonald's way back in early 2010s.'
Another user replied: 'That's what I was about to say, these signs have been around for a very long time.'
The sign with the '30 minute rule' seems to have angered some other customers in the comment section.
One remarked: 'Greed got in the way. They want the customers then don't want to serve them.
'Keep killing refills and making dining rooms uncomfortable and you won't have to worry about sitting down any more.
'The remodeled one by me used to be bustling, now there's no menu board, no cashier , no refills , cash kiosks, no TV and the most uncomfortable seating ever. No one eats inside any longer.'
A second user sarcastically commented: 'I respect that they don't want me inside there eating. I respect it so much that I just don't go there any more!'
A third chimed in: 'Rising costs and a changed culture fueled this change. It's not just McDonald's.
'There are no more real family friendly fast food restaurants left. It's all just get your food [and] get out now.'
However, some people understood why the restaurant might have put up this sign. A user guessed: 'That no loitering sign is probably just posted to allow staff to kick out people who stay there all day or something.
'I've loitered for 2 hours in a McDonalds that has that sign working on my laptop while sipping coffee and they didn't care.'
A former McDonald's employee added: 'Probably also a way to kick out teenagers who come in and buy 1 cheeseburger between 10 of them and then torment the workers. [It] was a huge issue back when I worked there.'

Grandparents offer to 'convert' their trans grandchild during three-month 'masculine' summer
A trans woman has revealed their grandparents offered to provide conversion therapy during a three-month 'masculine' summer holiday in a post that sparked outrage online. The social media user, believed to be from the US, shared photographs of the alleged letter on the 'Am I Overreacting' subreddit and their post quickly went viral - with over 6,300 comments at the time of writing. Their grandparents outlined a programme that comprised a mix of 'physical, mental and spiritual' activities they believed would change the Reddit user's attitude and 'physique'. They proposed frequent haircuts, zero contact with any 'boyfriends' and being addressed by their deadname 'or nobody will take you seriously as a man'. According to the 21-year-old Redditor's caption, they are not close to their conservative grandparents who probably learned about their gender identity from their mother'. They added their father has been in 'full agreement with them' and clarified they've 'never mentioned surgery' to their grandparents. The Reddit user, who works at American diesel engine manufacturer Cummins, also felt it was 'inappropriate' for their grandparents to bring up 'sexual satisfaction' before asking the community whether they were overreacting. The majority of social media users agreed the letter was offensive and ignorant, before the trans grandchild revealed they had sent back an 'equally d***ish letter' to their grandparents. In the shocking two-page letter to their grandchild, who clarified they cut off contact with them over their 'far right' views, the elderly couple apparently suggested people might have embarrasingly 'mistaken you for a girl'. 'The solution ,' they wrote, 'is not to confirm or encourage their mistake, but to ask yourself why they would think that. 'You seem willing to go to great and extreme lengths to make the change, but would you put any effort into being manly?' They ended the 'transphobic' letter by saying: 'What you are considering would not only be a physical train wreck but a disaster in family relations, social, and employment relationships, and above all, would be an insult to God that could result in total apostasy and abandonment by God.' The frustrated man took to social media to show off his neighbour's patio, with the floor barely visible as a result of piles and piles of waste. Posting on Reddit on the r/BadNeighbors thread, the man wrote under the username @pigeonmanO_o and simply penned: 'This is my neighbours' garden. 'It's literally just trash.' Not only is this man's neighbour's garden full with endless black bin bags exploding with recycling, but there's even a broken chest of drawers, a swimming pool full of shopping bags, an old mattress and a broken fan. There's also takeaway boxes, McDonald's cups, beer cans, camp chairs and garden tools. And as well as being a total state, the Reddit poster then claimed: 'They refuse to clean it.' But if you thought that was bad, think again, as the man also acknowledged that his neighbour's dogs are eating from the endless bin bags of waste. He admitted: 'What's worse is that they have two dogs who are always eating from that heap of trash.'
